New GPU - issues/problems in IT Support ·

I’m leaning in that direction too, mostly because I did some digging online—scouring through various tech forums and enthusiast sites—to make sure my motherboard was actually compatible with this specific GPU. Once I cleared that hurdle, I started wondering if the CPU might be the culprit, though I wasn't entirely certain about the technicalities there. At this point, it feels like the power supply is the last remaining variable in the equation. Plus, I noticed something odd: the graphics card has these two little LED indicators right by the 6-pin power connector, and only one of them is lit up instead of both. It’s a bit of a puzzle! Anyway, I really appreciate the help; I’m planning to head over to Best Buy tomorrow where I picked it up to see if they can shed some light on the issue.🙂

If you don't think it's the power supply, then what's the play here? Are we looking at a faulty graphics card? Or maybe the motherboard is acting up? It feels a bit early for that, though, since the whole setup isn't even two years old yet, and it's certainly not like the hardware lacks the necessary support 😢

Hey everyone. So, I went out today and picked up a brand new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070. I got everything installed, seated it perfectly in the rig, and hooked up the 6-pin power connector just like it should be. But here’s the kicker: when I hit the power button, the card kicks on for a few seconds, then everything just stalls—the fans stop spinning and my computer hangs right during the macOS startup sequence. I'm starting to wonder if my power supply is the culprit. I’ve got a 600W unit, but it’s an old EVGA 😢 model, and honestly, looking at how long I've had it, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't even putting out a true 600W anymore, haha. Anyway, there are these two little LED indicator lights right by that 6-pin connector on the card. The first one stays lit, but the second one remains dark. Could this all be happening because my power supply is basically junk? I’d love to grab a fresh one, but I really don't want to throw money down the drain until I'm absolutely certain that's where the issue lies. If anyone has any insight, I’d truly appreciate the help 🙂

Timothy Kim60 said:Those cards aren't actually that massive; they should fit into any standard PC case without an issue, though I’d definitely recommend double-checking those dimensions first just to be safe. If you end up looking for an upgrade, you might want to aim for something like a Zalman Z3 or similar budget-friendly options—maybe around $100—or if you're feeling a bit more upscale, look into brands like Fractal R4, Define, or even a TT F31.
You really ought to consider swapping out that power supply, too, especially since it looks like an office-grade unit; if you're planning on picking up a 380X, you'll want something reliable like a Fortron Hyper 600W with a five-year warranty, which you can find for under $167. Otherwise, there's the Gigabyte 380X sitting at about $1800+, and while it does tend to run a little louder than the Sapphire model, it comes with an extra year of warranty and is honestly such a great deal right now.

Thanks so much for the heads-up! So, based on what you're saying, would you personally lean toward the 380X? Or do you think it's smarter to just hold onto my cash for a little longer and wait until I can grab a GTX 970 or maybe even a 980?

Timothy Kim60 said:The first one is definitely the powerhouse here—if you're looking at pure price-to-performance, it's the clear winner—whereas the second option is much more efficient if you care about performance per watt. Honestly, your best bet is to dive into some deep-dive reviews and check out actual in-game benchmarks to see how they hold up. Also, could you let me know exactly what kind of power supply you're running, which case you've got, and what your CPU is?

Regarding the case and the PSU, they might actually suffice for now, but I'm fully planning on swapping them out regardless. Here is the current setup I'm working with.

Power Supply: LC POWER LC6600 V2.2 600W (It’s not exactly a household name like Corsair or EVGA, but I've had it running smoothly for two or three years now without any hiccups)
The case is an Antec (I can't recall the specific model off the top of my head), and since it's on the smaller side, I’m looking to upgrade because there's no way one of these cards is going to fit comfortably inside it.
CPU: AMD FX 8350 4 GHz 8

Do you think you could point me toward a solid power supply and a decent case right away? Finding a reliable PSU feels pretty straightforward to me, but finding the right case that won't give me a headache is what's really weighing on my mind.

Hey everyone. I was wondering if someone could weigh in and help me decide which graphics card is actually the better pick here.
I'm looking at the SAPPHIRE AMD RADEON R9 380 x nitro 4GB DDR5 versus the Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix DC2OC 4GD5 4GB DDR5. Interestingly enough, the GTX 960 seems to be sitting at a higher price point $38. I've tried running some comparisons myself, but I’d much rather get your real-world perspectives. Which one holds more weight in your book, and what makes it the winner? (Full disclosure, the specs I've provided aren't super granular; I just did a little digging on the range debate and pulled what I could from Google)

modEDIT: We don't need this list 😉

And of course, just as Jerry Phillips19 mentioned, you'll need to set up a static IP address first (you can follow these images for guidance):

The static IP should be configured before you attempt to open any ports on the router.
If anything remains unclear, please feel free to ask.

Thanks a million, I’m definitely going to give that a shot tonight. A few of the screenshots didn't quite make it through, but I think I've finally wrapped my head around what needs to happen regarding that Intel address. Just one quick thing, though—once I have everything configured, am I using my own local address to log into the server, and is that the same one I should pass along to my buddy? I'll touch base and let you know how it all pans out.

Roger Gray8 said:You’ve also gotta set up port triggering as well. Basically, you need both options pointed at the exact same port or

Well, I went ahead and set up the port triggering just like suggested, but it’s still a total non-starter. I even went through the trouble of opening the port in the firewall settings, and—surprise, surprise—nothing changed. To make matters even worse, ever since I messed with that port triggering setting, my router has been acting like it’s possessed; it’s completely bricked itself. Now I can't even get back into the interface to delete those settings because the whole thing is totally locked up. Honestly, at this point, I might just have to toss the damn thing in the trash. It’s nothing but cheap, low-grade junk from some overseas manufacturer that shouldn't be allowed on US soil.😠

Peter Flores77 said:First off, it would be a huge help if you could let us know which router model you're actually using.
Secondly, keep in mind that besides just opening the ports in your router settings, you'll also need to make sure they're cleared through your firewall.

Regarding the Boeing 747 via AT&T—how does one even go about opening ports in a firewall? Honestly, I'm a complete novice when it comes to this side of things. I consider myself pretty tech-savvy with computers (well, at least I think I am, though I'm certainly no IT pro), but all this talk about routers and port forwarding is a totally foreign language to me.

Hey everyone. So, I’m currently wrestling with an Enka A1521-I router and trying to get some port forwarding sorted out. I’ve been playing this one game where I need to host my own server, and from what I understand, I have to open up specific ports so my buddy can actually jump into the session with me. But here’s where things get a bit messy. This particular router doesn't actually have a setting labeled "port forwarding"; instead, it uses terms like "port triggering" and "virtual servers." I figured, hey, "virtual servers" sounds like just another way of saying port forwarding, so I went ahead and opened those ports (16261, 16262, and 16263 for both TCP and UDP). The thing is, it’s just not working. Every single time I try to connect to the server, I get hit with a "failed connection to TCP download port 16262" error message. Now, I'm sitting here wondering if the issue lies with the ports themselves or if there's some other invisible hand throttling the connection. To make matters even more confusing, I ran a port checker program which insists that everything is wide open, but then I checked another site online that tells me they're totally closed. It feels like I'm getting conflicting reports from two different worlds! If anyone has experience with this specific Enka A1521-I model or knows how these ports behave, I would truly appreciate any insight you could offer. I'm honestly stumped on what might be going wrong. Even if we assume the ports are technically open, what else in the system could be acting as a roadblock to the connection? I’ve already tried disabling my antivirus and firewall just to rule them out, but no luck there either. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Router issues??? in IT Support ·
Hey everyone. I'm pretty new to this group, so I'm not entirely sure if this is the right spot to vent about my technical headaches or if there’s a more specific corner of the forum for troubleshooting, but hey, let's just roll with it. Basically, I think my router might be on its last legs. I’ve been with ExxonMobil for about a year and a half now, and a few months back, things started getting really flaky. My connection just drops out—completely cuts off—almost every single day, sometimes multiple times a day. I've noticed a bit of a pattern, too; it seems to happen right when I'm actually putting the bandwidth to use, like when I'm downloading a large file or something similar. If I'm just browsing light websites or nothing heavy is running in the background, everything stays steady. It honestly feels like the router is just getting overwhelmed or hitting some kind of ceiling. I haven't reached out to ExxonMobil support just yet because I wanted to see if anyone here has dealt with this kind of thing first, especially if you're using that ENCOM hardware they provide. Here is the gist of it: I'll be surfing the web, and suddenly, that little icon in the bottom right of my PC tells me I'm offline. It isn't just one device either; my other computer and all my phones lose the Wi-Fi at the exact same time. All the lights on the router stay lit up, which makes it even more confusing, but there's just zero connectivity. Sometimes it snaps back after a couple of minutes, but other times it stays dead, forcing me to unplug the thing, let it cool down for a bit, and then try again. I am definitely going to give ExxonMobil a call to get this sorted out one way or another, but I'm mostly curious if anyone else has had these same issues. I'm starting to wonder if this router is just total junk or if the problem is actually sitting further up the line with the service provider. Thanks for taking the time to read this! 😁
