I was sitting in my backyard the other day, looking at what used to be a lush, green patch of grass, and I realized it looks more like a dried-out cracker than a lawn. It’s funny how you don’t notice the gradual shift in the environment until you’re staring at a landscape that looks like it belongs in a different hemisphere. We always talk about "weather" like it’s this temporary thing—something we complain about for a week and then move on from—but lately, I can't shake the feeling that the ground beneath us is fundamentally changing.

It’s not just about the heat, though the heat is exhausting. It’s the silence that comes with it. You know that heavy, dusty stillness when the moisture just isn't there? I remember growing up, the summer meant thunderstorms, humidity, and that specific smell of rain hitting hot pavement. Now, it feels like we’re living through these endless stretches of stagnation where the air feels thin and thirsty. It makes me wonder if we’ve reached a tipping point where our local ecosystems aren't just "struggling," but are actually being forced into a total redesign.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the psychological toll of this. There’s a term I think I read once about "solastalgia"—the distress caused by environmental change in one's home environment. It’s that weird, unsettling feeling of being homesick while you’re actually standing in your own house because everything looks so unfamiliar. I feel it every time I see the local creek reduced to a muddy trickle or notice how much more aggressive the dust has become in the neighborhood. It’s a subtle, creeping kind of anxiety. You start looking at your garden, your local park, or even your water bill, and you realize the old "rules" for how we live in this part of the world don't seem to apply anymore.

Then there’s the logistical side of things. We’ve built our entire infrastructure—our homes, our farms, our urban planning—around the assumption that water is a predictable, abundant resource. We design everything with the expectation of a certain cycle. But what happens when that cycle breaks? What happens when the "unprecedented" becomes the "annual"? I see people talking about new technologies or better irrigation, but I think we’re underestimating how much of our way of life is tethered to a climate that is currently shifting under our feet. It’s not just about whether the grass stays green; it’s about how we manage everything from food production to how we design our cities to keep them cool.

I also wonder about the social divide this is going to create. We’re already seeing how differently people can handle these shifts depending on their resources. Some people can just invest in better landscaping or high-end cooling systems, while others are left dealing with the direct consequences of a changing environment with very little cushion. If the very basics of our environment become unpredictable, it’s going to put a massive strain on the social contract.

I don't want to sound like a doomsayer, but I do think we need to stop treating these shifts as "freak occurrences." It feels like we're constantly reacting to emergencies instead of proactively redesigning our lives for a much drier, much hotter reality. We keep waiting for the "normal" to come back, but what if "normal" isn't coming back? What if this is just the new baseline we have to learn to navigate?

Do you think we’re doing enough to adapt our daily lives and our infrastructure, or are we just waiting for the next big crisis to force our hand?
Thomas Palmer7 said:Just wanted to let you guys know I went in to get my blood work done today... specifically that beta test...
The number came out to 0.133...
That's sounding pretty negative, isn't it...

Yeah... and
look, from what I understand about your situation—if you haven't had a period in two months but that hCG test is negative... there is NO WAY you're pregnant. 😁
Look, you’re not wrong—you’re definitely running late on this one... but honestly, with all these tests going on and the fact that there isn't even a real relationship established yet, you haven't even gotten close to her... just get your hormones under control and you might actually have a shot...😁

Yeah, yeah, I hear you, I know the drill. But the real panic started setting in once I actually started taking those hormones just to try and win her over, and even after the medication, she's still nowhere to be found...🙄😢
I just have to jump in here... I am literally losing my mind 🙄
I don't know how many of you actually know the full story with my situation, but if you've been following along from the start, please—please weigh in on this.... My last period ended back on July 31st
I was taking hormones... specifically to try and trigger it... but it’s been four days since I stopped taking them and still nothing. No period.
Aside from some weird nausea in the evenings—though honestly, who knows if I'm just imagining things because I'm such a nervous wreck—there are no other symptoms. I've already taken four tests and they were all negative. I am at a total loss... and there's no way I could be pregnant again because we haven't even had actual intercourse, it was just... mutual stuff. So maybe there was contact with sperm and maybe there wasn't? I don't even know anymore 😕😕
Ovulation questions in Women's Health ·
hmm....I've got a question.
I had this nagging suspicion that I might be pregnant...and honestly, I am absolutely terrified 🙄 (I'm only 17 here)
My period is pretty late—like, about ten days late...but before this, I was already on hormone treatments because of some cysts on my ovaries...so my cycles have always been a total mess. I'd get my period every ten days sometimes, or it would drag on for an entire month straight
Anyway, what I really want to know is: can a gynecologist actually look at an ultrasound and tell if ovulation didn't even happen in the first place?😕😕😕
Oh, great. Seriously? She just claimed it was something else entirely. Look, she’s an expert at pulling this kind of crap—honestly, I’ve dealt with her enough times to know she causes nothing but massive headaches and endless trouble...
Now we just sit here crossing our fingers and praying it actually works...

And don't you dare lift a finger!!🤣

hehe....of course you did... 🙂
so now just drink up for seven days straight and maybe—just maybe—it'll finally work..hahaha...
Just walked out of my OBGYN appointment...
I don't want any sympathy, okay?
The doctor told me I missed my ovulation window—apparently, a cyst grew up to about an inch in size and just didn't rupture like it was supposed to. So now I’m stuck taking hormone pills to jumpstart my period.😁
Long story short... I'm not pregnant. Not that anyone here could have seen anything on an ultrasound anyway, even if I were, right?
It’s been about 10 days since my period was supposed to show up...
Does anyone actually know if this ultrasound data is accurate? Anyone here dealt with this before??
Thomas Palmer7 said:It’s been about two weeks, but what kind of test should I actually be looking at? Like, a home pregnancy test, a blood draw, or maybe an ultrasound?

I already tried one of those early detection tests, and it came back negative, but I don't know... I'm still feeling super skeptical and paranoid about it.
Should I bother doing another test just to be sure, or am I overthinking this...

An ultrasound...
So, I finally got the official word back from my doctor—they’re saying there should be enough to actually see the pregnancy on an ultrasound within the next two weeks...
Henry Baker2 said:I read the start of this story. You aren’t pregnant. For that to be true, Mars and Jupiter would need to be in some ridiculous constellation...
The test was negative—you aren't!
So, you're not!
Pregnancy can happen regardless of the stars, but going back to that Mars and Jupiter nonsense: if your guy's swimmers were actually torpedoing their way in like that, you wouldn't be in this position. You might want to pack up those nerves and find a better use for them.
By the way, calling a girl "untouched" is such an old-school, cringey way to say she's a virgin. I get why people used to say it, but still... just my opinion.
Oh, and maybe try having unprotected sex first before coming back to this thread. Or better yet, don't.😉 (Don't come back to the thread, just go have the sex).
Now go ahead and head to Starbucks without worrying. You aren't pregnant, and I'm sure the barista won't be able to read what you did with your boyfriend right off your forehead. Don't sweat it!😉

Thanks! 🙂 I definitely won't, hahaha... 🙂 (I don't mean coming back to the topic, haha)
I guess they just weren't in that constellation... 🙂
Ugh, I honestly don't even know if this is going to go through or not... :/
I mean, I’m not sure if you even have the full story from the start...
The whole thing about the hymen is what’s bugging me—I need to know if it's actually possible to get pregnant if sperm just gets transferred by hand. My period is already 7 or 8 days late, and we haven't actually had sex; he was just... well, he was touching himself right after he touched himself, and then there was contact...
And seriously, if the hymen isn't broken, can that even happen at all?🙄
I am completely spiraling because there is just way too much conflicting info out there🙄
I've been scrolling through random sites online saying it’s impossible unless there is direct sperm transfer, but now I don't know what to believe anymore...🙄🙄
But my period is still late... and I've already taken two tests, and they both came back negative...🤷
James Cox6 said:I already told you, you aren't pregnant... babies don't just pop out of thin air...
Go get some swabs done instead. 🙂

Yeah, getting tests done is easy enough... but I'm heading to the OB-GYN this Wednesday and honestly, I have no clue if she’s going to jump down my throat and accuse me of doing something crazy—mostly because I'm bringing my mom along :/
By the way, I'm a virgin... well, technically, my hymen hasn't broken (I think?)
How am I even supposed to know if it's still intact? And even if it is, is there really any reason to be worried about it?
laaraaa??? Or anyone else??
So, here I am...
I’ve already run two different tests—first, one of those cheap ones you grab at CVS for like five bucks... negative.
Then I went out and got an Intim Plus test just to be sure... also negative.
Hmm... I'm trying to stay calm, but honestly, I'm still just sitting here waiting. 🙄
My period hasn't shown up in about 40 days now. 🙄
And since I was taking those hormone pills to try and regulate things... I can't even tell what my actual cycle looks like anymore.
So... for those of you who have been following this whole mess from the beginning... what do I do now? Do I really just sit around and wait?
rapidrider3 said:Well, you might just get what's coming to you...😉

Ugh, I really hope so... 😁
but honestly, this waiting game is driving me absolutely insane... 😢((
I couldn't even sit still—I actually went and asked him if anything was wrong with his arm... he just insisted there’s nothing there, that it’s fine, and that he just moved it a little...
I’m trying so hard not to freak out, but seriously, I'm still spiraling over this. 😢
rapidrider3 said:So, you actually having symptoms? Like, swollen breasts? Any actual pain?

Nah, not really...
At least nothing like food cravings or anything like that...
The only thing is I’m getting this sharp ache right in my pelvic area—it feels exactly like my period is about to hit :O
Larry Edwards3 said:Dennis Kim5, I honestly don't think you have much to worry about... I mean, I'm just not sure how likely it actually is to get pregnant that way. If anything was left on his finger, I find it hard to believe he could have pushed it deep enough to cause a pregnancy. Still, maybe just for your own peace of mind, it might be a good idea to take a test so you can finally relax a bit.

Well, thanks... everyone keeps telling me the exact same thing—that it’s impossible. And look, I don't even believe it myself, but man, the panic just hit me out of nowhere...😲😲
rapidrider3 said:There are always 24-hour pharmacies around; depends on where you're located, but here in New York City, there's always somewhere open...
But you really ought to grab a test before morning hits...

Are you absolutely sure you're seven days late? Is this the first time it's been this delayed? Any symptoms popping up?

You won't see anything on an ultrasound right now. There’s really no point in going before the sixth week... if you are pregnant, you're probably only about 2 or 3 weeks along at most...

Yeah, I'll go get one first thing tomorrow... get it done and over with...
The thing is, I've been dealing with irregular periods for two years now. I was on hormone pills to get things back on track, and for a little while, everything seemed fine, but then my cycle just went totally haywire again (they say it's stress or whatever, who knows?)—anyway, my prolactin levels were high, which was likely why my period was such a mess (I've had them lasting up to 20 days), so I went to get my prolactin checked, and now that those levels are normal, my period still isn't showing up... 😢
rapidrider3 said:Look... the only way you're getting a real answer is with a test. With a delay this long, any of them should be pretty much 100% accurate.
They've got those $11 tests, like the Clearblue ones... the digital ones... they use strips, but they always worked for me.
Just head to the drugstore, grab one, and test first thing tomorrow morning using your first urine! (Honestly, just grab a cup... it's easiest. Pee in the cup, dip the stick for a minute until it hits that line on the strip)....😉

And let us know how it goes tomorrow!! 😉 We're waiting...☕

Honestly, I was kind of hoping someone would just tell me there's no chance...
😁 But since he's saying it isn't 100% certain, I guess we're just left hanging...
It's pretty much decided now, right? Are even pharmacies open tomorrow?
By the way, I have an appointment with my OB-GYN for an ultrasound in about a week... IF this turns out to be happening, will we actually be able to see anything yet???
Quick question...
I really don't want to sound stupid or anything like that.
Though, let’s be honest—I probably am... I’d say the same thing if anyone else were asking this.
So, last week my boyfriend and I were "playing around" a little bit.
First, he was handling everything manually—I'm not even entirely sure what all went down there—and then he finished by rubbing it against me... so, is it actually possible to transfer sperm through your hands?
I know this sounds totally absurd and maybe it won't even matter in the end, but I'm honestly starting to panic here...🙄🙄
My period is about a week late... though, to be fair, my cycles have never been super regular anyway. 😕😕
Also, does anyone know which pregnancy test from a place like CVS or Walgreens is actually reliable once you've missed your period?
