Hi everyone, I’m new here! I have a quick question: is it actually possible to have regular periods—complete with all the usual stuff like sore breasts and other symptoms—without actually ovulating? My doctor hasn't seen any signs of ovulation during my last two checkups, so now I'm heading in to get my hormone levels tested. While I wait for those results, I was wondering if anyone else has gone through something similar?

It’s entirely possible that there isn't anything unusual going on. If you have an anovulatory cycle due to ovarian cysts, your periods can be either regular or irregular. Breast soreness is caused by hormonal shifts, and those happen even without ovulation. Your body is essentially trying to trigger ovulation every single cycle, even if it doesn't succeed, which results in similar hormonal fluctuations to a typical cycle. It's the hypothalamus or the pituitary gland "ordering" the ovaries to act.

Thanks for getting back to me! My results mentioned ovaries with a lot of small follicles, so I’m assuming that means PCOS. Honestly, I was starting to think about trying for a baby, so this news really caught me off guard. Do I have to be on hormone therapy for a long time? I’ve been reading up on ovulation induction if my cycles aren't actually ovulating. I’ve also started drinking some herbal teas that people on these forums recommended for this kind of thing.

You should have them write PCOS on the diagnosis just to be absolutely certain. It’s actually normal for ovaries to be filled with tiny follicles because that’s how a dominant follicle is eventually selected to mature. I’m no expert, but from what I recall, with PCOS, those follicles behave differently since they're being stimulated cycle after cycle by pituitary hormones that are meant to trigger a single Graafian follicle to mature.

Hang in there before you start ovarian stimulation. You first need to figure out why you aren't ovulating, so they'll likely try using progestins—synthetic progesterone—to jumpstart the process. Everything will become much clearer once you get your blood work back. I know this is tough, but this might just be a minor, temporary issue. 🙂

So, I’m actually looking for some insight regarding ovulation...
About a month ago, I took a pregnancy test and ended up dealing with some kind of infection. My OB-GYN prescribed some Betadine suppositories to clear it up. Honestly, this was my first time ever having to use anything like that—I've never had an infection before, so it was all pretty new to me.
My cycle is usually super predictable (every 28 days), and my ovulation follows suit perfectly. Ever since I started tracking, it hasn't missed a single beat. Everything has been totally on track until this month. Now that I've started using those suppositories, it looks like I skipped ovulation entirely. This is a huge deal for me because I'm actively trying to get pregnant right now.😕
Does anyone know if there's any actual link between those meds and messing with ovulation? I've read online that it's possible to just skip an ovulation cycle once in a while, but I can't help feeling anxious about it...😢
Anyone have any info....

Yeah, it happens. You can definitely have anovulatory cycles—basically, you get your period (usually pretty irregular), but there's no ovulation happening. Those are just infertile cycles...

Does anyone know if those things could actually cause this?? I read that sometimes you can just skip ovulation, but I'm honestly pretty freaked out...😢
anyone know anything....

Betadine isn't going to mess with your ovulation. 🙂
But honestly, the stress from dealing with an infection and all those meds might have been enough to throw your cycle off. Either way, go talk to your doctor and maybe just take a pregnancy test. You might already be pregnant... 🙂

Look, honestly? The stress from dealing with an infection—and maybe even some vaginal issues on top of that—could totally be intense enough to throw your whole cycle out of whack and cause an anovulatory period. It’s a real thing. But seriously, don't just sit there guessing. Go talk to your doctor and go ahead and take a pregnancy test. Who knows? You might actually be pregnant. 🙂

I honestly can't believe I'm pregnant. I mean, I started using tampons right after my period ended—or at least I think I did, since I definitely had my period first. Everything feels like a complete blur.
Honestly, I’m leaning towards thinking this is all just stress from using those vaginal suppositories. I've been overthinking everything lately, and if I'm being totally real, I don't even enjoy putting them in—even though I guess I've gotten used to the routine a little bit.🙂
I’m gonna give my doctor a call and see if she can tell me if I’m actually dying or if it's nothing... hopefully it's just nothing.

Hey everyone! Before I head out to hit up a few pharmacies, I’ve got a quick question for you all. My period actually ended just two days ago. So, last night, my partner and I were together and... well, things slipped a little bit. Usually, my cycle is super predictable—about 28 to 30 days—but this month it showed up four days earlier than expected. I tried playing around with one of those online ovulation calculators, and according to the math, I shouldn't really be in my fertile window, but I'm honestly low-key freaking out because my cycle was just slightly off this time. It's normally so regular, maybe just a day or two of difference, but now when I plug different dates into the tracker, I feel like I'm right on the edge. What should I do? Should I just wait and see? Or should I go grab the morning-after pill right now?

If you aren't looking to have a child, just head over to your doctor to get a prescription for the day after; it's a simple process, and staying safe is what matters most.

Hey everyone..
I took the day after.. my period came, everything seemed fine.. but now, 20 days later, I’ve started getting these pains in my chest—it’s tender, even just to the touch—and my stomach hurts too.. feels like my ovaries.. I've never dealt with symptoms like this before. Some people are saying it might just be ovulation.. is it possible the pill messed with my cycle like this, or could there be a chance a baby is on the way??

Look, the morning-after pill is basically a hormonal sledgehammer to your system. Your hormones and your cycle are just scrambled right now. If this happens more than once, it's nothing out of the ordinary. For some women, it takes a few months to get back to baseline after taking emergency contraception.
And you absolutely need to use protection moving forward, because since your cycle is all over the place, you have no idea when your fertile window is, which means you could easily end up pregnant by mistake.

hmm....I've got a question.
I had this nagging suspicion that I might be pregnant...and honestly, I am absolutely terrified 🙄 (I'm only 17 here)
My period is pretty late—like, about ten days late...but before this, I was already on hormone treatments because of some cysts on my ovaries...so my cycles have always been a total mess. I'd get my period every ten days sometimes, or it would drag on for an entire month straight
Anyway, what I really want to know is: can a gynecologist actually look at an ultrasound and tell if ovulation didn't even happen in the first place?😕😕😕
