Does anyone have the inside scoop on that wedding expo happening over at the Baron Trenk ballroom in Indianapolis?

I caught an ad for it on the Bosina Facebook page—they're saying it's going down on April 5th and 6th, 2014—but they're being super vague about who’s actually going to be exhibiting there.
Here’s the link if you want to check it out:

If anyone knows what kind of vendors we're talking about or what the vibe will be, let me know.

You should definitely reach out to Susan in Des Moines—you can grab her info at www.pozivnice.org.

She does killer work, and honestly, this design looks even simpler than her usual stuff; she could probably toss your photo right into the layout without breaking a sweat.

Seriously though, just go swing by her shop to check out her portfolio—it doesn't cost a dime to ask some questions.

mellowridge7 said:Has anyone here ever handled dessert catering for a wedding? I’m trying to figure out if five pastries per guest is overkill—especially since everyone will be at the venue, and my plan is to pack some up to hand out the day after lunch. Honestly, baking isn't exactly my forte

I think I mentioned this somewhere else already, but my caterer suggested three pieces per person at the reception—and that was even with a massive spread of cakes on top (maybe around 15 different kinds?). It was plenty.

dustytinker58 said:I'm thinking the exact same thing... it sounds like overkill! Usually, when you're hosting, you plan enough food for every 8 guests, whether it's soup, a main course, or dessert... but hey, who's going to follow those strict rules? It's always better to have leftovers than to run out! Still, though, 25 platters sounds massive unless they're those tiny little appetizer trays...

Like, what am I supposed to do with two giant trays of sliced meat for a table of 10, plus three desserts per person? That's just ridiculous.

I think someone told me that was supposedly the "standard" 🤷
But honestly, who actually knows?

In my case, nobody even touched the beer—everyone went straight for the hard stuff (whiskey, schnapps, cherry brandy...)

I'm trying to get a sense of what we're looking at regarding tent rentals, catering costs, and all that good stuff.

So, I know that over at that ranch place, they handle the whole setup—they even have their own tent with a wooden floor (which is a huge deal for me, because I am definitely not trying to sink my heels into the grass 🙂).

They also have this gorgeous space tucked into some glass cliffs, and if you’re looking at a smaller guest list—say, under 80 people—you could easily fit everyone in there.

Anyway, here’s the link so you can check it out for yourself:

I don't have any text from silva8188 to work with yet! Drop the original post below, and I'll get to work rewriting it into that specific, dry, sarcastic, long-winded style you're looking for—complete with all the US-based swaps and personality intact. kaže:
So, I was just over here grabbing my invitations... though, honestly, she was practically hunting me down specifically to get her hands on mine. $2.75 I actually managed to talk them down on the price—finally! $1.75Look, I get it—those invitations were definitely on the pricier side. But honestly? You can find cheaper options or wait for some random sale online if you want to cut corners. The thing is, these weren't just your run-of-the-mill, flimsy little cards. They were legit professional—top-tier stuff. We’re talking high-quality paper, actual ribbons, bows, the whole nine yards... everything was just perfect. And the lady running the shop? Absolute legend. She’s incredibly accommodating—like, seriously, she’ll go out of her way to help you whenever you need it. She even opens up on Saturdays and Sundays just to make things easier, even though that’s not even her standard hours. Honestly, couldn't recommend her more.
Check out this site—http://www.pozivnice.org/. It’s basically a deep dive into all things digital invites and custom stationery. If you're looking to spruce up a party or just want something that doesn't look like it was slapped together in Microsoft Word, this is worth a look. Not exactly groundbreaking stuff, but definitely useful if you're tired of the usual cookie-cutter options.

Honestly, they did the exact same thing for me—and I was beyond stoked with the results.

George Bishop72 said:I was chatting with a woman who recently got married over in Indianapolis—she had absolutely stunning makeup done—and she mentioned the salon was located in Indianapolis right near that old local spot across from the pub. Apparently, that space is up for lease now, and she’s not quite sure if they moved elsewhere...
Does anyone happen to know which salon she’s talking about or where they relocated? I'm looking for a guy, maybe around 35...

I know there's an unnamed studio around there, but that isn't really right next to the diner—it's actually a street over on Shakespeare Ave, and some kid runs it. Might be what you're looking for.

I don't recall any hair salon being right next to that diner specifically.😕

nimbleviper15 said:Anyone have any experience with fireworks at a wedding?

I haven't personally pulled the trigger on that one, but from what I've heard, it’s an absolute money pit. Plus, you have to usher all your guests outside just to watch a show that lasts, what, three minutes tops? It feels like a lot of hassle for a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment.

Honestly, if you really want that "wow" factor, you might be better off putting that cash toward a killer light show—you know, the full production with effects, fog machines, balloons, confetti... stuff that keeps the energy up all night. It might even end up being cheaper in the long run (I think some people mentioned spending closer to $2,000-$1333)

The only exception is if you're having a massive outdoor wedding in the middle of nowhere; then, a firework show would be pretty epic and definitely something most people don't get to see every day.

Hey guys, anyone planning to hit up the wedding expo on January 14th and 15th?

If anyone actually made it out to the expo at the Hotel Osijek last year, could you give me the lowdown on how it went?
Did they offer any kind of discounts for people just walking through the doors?
I checked out Pampas back in December and, honestly, the number of vendors was kind of a letdown—is the turnout at the hotel usually better than that?
Everything you need for a Midwest wedding in Weddings ·
Wait, so we’re actually having two different trade shows in Indianapolis now?

One happening out in the Great Plains and then another one at the Hotel Osijek early next month?

wow 😁 looks like this city finally found its pulse.

Has anyone here actually dealt with Crystal catering over in Memphis?

I’ve been scouring the web, but I can't find a single decent website or review page for them.

I'm trying to get the lowdown on the service, the food quality, the pricing... everything.
I gave them a call, and honestly, they sounded super polished—talking a big game about how professional their organization is, the vibe they create, the menu... all that stuff. I definitely need to swing by and see the setup in person, but before I do, I really want to hear what you guys have actually experienced!

frozenangler87 said:Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid hair salon in Columbus? Please! 🙂
I heard that feminine place was supposed to be good, but I actually went there once and honestly, I wasn't really feeling it. 😢

My regular stylist is all the way in Indianapolis, and I just don't feel like driving out there on a Wednesday. I've got my wedding coming up in three months and I'm low-key freaking out that I won't find anyone or that every single salon will be fully booked by then!

Honestly, just stick with your usual person—it's not like Indianapolis is on the other side of the planet.

But look, if you do decide to try someone new, do yourself a favor and book a trial run immediately. Don't wait until the big day; do it now so you actually have time to pivot if they mess up your hair.

Personally, I've hit up Studio 54 a few times—one stylist there was basically Superman with the shears, totally nailed it, while another one... well, let's just say not so much. I don't remember the specific names, so I can't give you a direct referral, but you get the idea.

Good luck!

rapiddrifter7 said:Does anyone know who in Indianapolis does that fancy fruit carving—you know, the stuff with watermelons and apples? I was looking for someone talented and wondered if anyone had a lead.😕

If you’re actually looking to hire some catering crew, there are a few things you really ought to keep in mind before you sign anything. Seriously—don't just go with whoever has the flashiest Instagram feed or the lowest quote. You need to vet them properly if you don't want your event turning into a total disaster.
So, I actually had a local culinary school handle the entire catering setup at my place—not the one over in Indianapolis, obviously—but they went all out. They even put together this incredible fruit platter with all sorts of crazy shapes and carvings, and honestly? It was pretty damn impressive.

Around here, you’re expected to show up with some whiskey or wine—and honestly, if you can swing both a red and a white, even better.
If you want to go all out, bring some decorated bottles or those little little decorative caps, but if you're feeling lazy, just grab some patriotic bunting to spruce things up.

Raise a glass to the newlyweds! You can stick to the old-school way and take a swig straight from the bottle, or if you’ve become one of those picky modern types, just ask the host for some glasses and pour yourself a drink properly.

A single liter should be plenty to cover the whole wedding party since most people are just sipping for the sake of tradition anyway.

Wait, another one? Or are you talking about that Baron Trenk thing (you know, the boss version)?

I haven't heard a peep about any other 🤷

I don't know about you guys, but this forum is... honestly everything I need 🙂 it's like my one-stop shop for everything! I've learned so much already, so massive THANKS TO EVERYONE!!!

So, I'm looking into that "exclusive" wedding decor studio over in Memphis. I've seen nothing but glowing reviews about them on here, so I actually went ahead and called to set up a meeting. I'll let you all know how it goes 🙂
But if anyone has any inside scoop, please, hit me up.

I think there’s a wedding planning studio in Indianapolis too, which isn't exactly a trek from where you are, so maybe check them out as well!

hollowcrane58 said:Does anyone happen to have a recommendation for a stripper out in the Midwest?
Thanks in advance

Honestly, I don't think you're gonna find anything in the Midwest—it's just not happening there. A few people I know have definitely used strippers before, but they always brought them in from NYC or even Mexico City. I guess they were willing to pay for the travel and everything, which probably made it worth the hassle 😁, but hey, I'm just saying—don't quote me on it

Terry Hayes5 said:I mean, if someone eats maybe 5 or 6 slices... for 60 people you'd probably need about 26 pounds of chocolate cake, though I guess it really just depends on the crowd 🙂

When I was planning my own wedding, the caterers told me to budget for 3 pastries per person—so that’s what we went with, and honestly? We still had plenty left over. Plus, we had full-on cakes on the table, too. In my book, aiming for 5 or 6 pieces per head feels like a total overkill. 🤷

Sandra Campbell9 said:Best regards,
I wonder if you might be able to tell me roughly what their wedding cake prices look like... just a ballpark figure, if possible?

Mine was listed at number 3 on that link and ended up costing about $533—but keep in mind that one was pretty massive. I know the one under number 16 is closer to $230 since it’s smaller and doesn't require quite as much work (that's actually the style my maid of honor had). Both of those options use fondant, but if you're looking for something with whipped cream instead, they're definitely cheaper—you could probably snag a large one for around $267.

If you have any other questions, just shoot them over. Honestly, I haven't been hanging out on these forums too much since I got married 😁, but feel free to hit me up via DM.
