Just to be clear: my experiences with private clinics here range from slightly positive to downright terrible. It feels like a waste of money. Most of the people working privately are the same crew from the public hospitals. If they couldn't nail a diagnosis in a hospital, they aren't going to find it in their private practice, even if they are a little nicer to you and you don't have to wait as long.

That's just my general impression after years of seeing specialists, both through the system and privately... which is why I decided to pay for this specific procedure elsewhere.
In fact, the only two doctors I actually trust work exclusively within the public system.

Of course, plenty of patients will have different stories, but they can tell them. I don't deal in other people's anecdotes or interests. What I do for a living and what I studied in med school has absolutely nothing to do with this.

Every time I look for advice, all I find is how I need to go straight into surgery. It’s not the first time I’ve heard how private clinics operate. Honestly, it feels like one of those places is behind these comments, feeding us info about specific surgeons privately and all that. I’m not saying I buy every ad, but I don't trust these posts either. I don't trust anyone at this point... I can only rely on my own gut. I agree it’s not cheap, but it’s not a massive amount considering what you get. This product has a lot of components, and from what I gathered, they are ingredients proven to work in traditional remedies.
Luckily, my checkup showed I don't need surgery immediately, so with the advice I've received, I want to try something else to get rid of this problem once and for all.

It’s not about needing to speak Latin, but having a basic grasp of American grammar—the kind you get from a standard high school education—would be enough. Dr. Nevio didn't exactly demonstrate that in his questionable post about Quest Diagnostics (I could list the errors, but most people here wouldn't care), and he relied heavily on typical advertising jargon. It reminds me of that "dentist" in the Sensodyne commercial who was awkwardly reciting a script someone else wrote for him. Nevio's post felt exactly like that ad.

A doctor simplifying their language so a patient understands is a completely different issue than this whole Quest Diagnostics thing.

Anyway, you definitely don't have to go under the knife right away (for instance, I waited twenty years), and trusting your intuition is usually best. No one knows your body better than you do... and if you make the wrong call, it's better that it was your own choice rather than being swayed by someone else.

I noticed almost every one of your posts responds to someone seeking advice for a health issue. Your posts suggest they reach out to a good specialist. I bet after that, the person contacts you privately to find out who that specialist is, and then you send them to a private clinic—the same one every time. For one profile, you’ve had an incredible number of "problems."

If you actually bothered to dig through my posts, you'd see I never recommend just one specific specialist. And if I do, it's because, unfortunately, I've dealt with an excessive amount of health issues over the last six years following major pelvic trauma. I was practically disabled for two years, searching intensely for help within the healthcare system, but despite all the effort, I couldn't find anything there. I'm prepping for six surgeries, if you're really that interested.

In case you weren't aware, plenty of others are in the same boat. After being "left hanging" by the system, they're forced to seek paid help, and when that happens, you need to know what's worth the money and what isn't. I've wasted huge amounts of cash doing that. Otherwise, I have never recommended a place unless I've personally had surgery there with good results, and even then, I always include a disclaimer to do your own research and not take my word for it blindly.

Besides, you could have just DM'ed me to test the waters and ask for advice, then you could have seen how I actually talk. You didn't do that, so you're just talking out of turn. As far as I'm concerned, the offer still stands. ☕

But honestly, the biggest surprise was the sudden disappearance of that constant upper abdominal bloating I’ve dealt with for years. I always assumed it was just bad digestion or an enzyme deficiency. Never once did I think the culprit was massive internal hemorrhoids preventing a full bowel movement after, uh, using the restroom 😁. My waistline literally shrank by about 3 inches overnight without losing a single pound. I can finally bend over without discomfort and sleep on my stomach again. If anyone else here has similar issues and hasn't considered internal hemorrhoids as the cause, just a heads up...

Just an update: my surgery (DG HAL + laser reduction for internal hemorrhoids) in Germany went smoothly. Had an incredibly positive experience with the specialist—super professional, direct, quick to communicate, answered every single question... honestly, top-tier. The clinic was solid too. It’s day 4 now; the intense pain was really only there on day 1. Too early for any final conclusions, so I won't get ahead of myself, but everything looks great so far. I'm not entirely sure if it's readily available here in the States, but I bet there are ways to get it... probably worth looking into. You really need to hunt for a urologist who actually cares about staying informed and willing to put in the work. Don't have any specific names to suggest, unfortunately.

As far as I know, you can't find it in any local pharmacies. I always have to beg someone traveling to Italy to bring me some.

Looks like we’ve got two clear failures from the Leptir Clinic here. Since the sample size is tiny, patients might want to keep this in mind when picking a surgeon.

As for ointments, I highly recommend Proctolyn from Italy. I've tried just about everything, but nothing else comes close. I know others who feel the same way.

Kate Allen35, I’m planning to head over to Germany in a few weeks for the HAL-RAR, maybe combine it with a laser depending on how things look. Found a highly recommended surgeon, but I won't vouch for him until I see how it goes for me personally. Not sure what you ended up paying at Leptir Clinic, but this route doesn't seem too pricey yet, at least regarding the surgeon's fees... still waiting on the numbers for the anesthesiologist and the hospital stay. I'll let you know. 🙂

It just eases the irritation and pain. For actual hemorrhoid creams, ask at a pharmacy or just scroll back through this thread.

Your family doctor gives you the referral, then you book the appointment wherever they send you. I assume you can go alone. Not sure how it works down in San Diego, so just ask your doctor when you get the referral. Proctologists shouldn't be striking any more than other hospital doctors. Best bet is to just show up with your referral and Medicare card and see what happens.

David Cook5, according to the doctor—you need a proctologist. Also: watch what you eat (eat more prunes, pears, apples, and LGG yogurt mixed with ground flaxseed), and stay away from dry foods and sweets. Drink plenty of fluids and move around as much as possible. You need regular bowel movements that aren't hard. That's the most important part if you don't want this to come back...

After you go, don't use dry paper; wash with a handheld showerhead instead, then pat dry gently with soft toilet paper or a soft towel. Apply some hemorrhoid cream from the pharmacy. For pain and irritation, Pavlovic ointment works wonders too (check CVS or a local drugstore)...
