Everything you need for a Midwest wedding in Weddings ·
Maria Davis2 said:Hey ladies, I could really use some intel on the Baron Trenk Hall over in Warsaw. Has anyone actually been there for a wedding or anything? I’m dying to know if it’s actually any good.
Also, do you think $6.75 is asking way too much for a venue rental—like, is that price tag totally insane just for a crowd of 500 people?

To be perfectly honest, I wasn't particularly impressed with that venue myself. You can find halls with the exact same square footage and identical amenities all over the Midwest—places like a local country club in a nearby suburb, a hotel ballroom in a neighboring town, or even those big banquet centers out near the outskirts of the metro area—so why specifically target that one?

Hey everyone!
I was wondering if anyone here has ever ordered wedding pastries from the Local Bakery or the Ceranka confectionery over by the Black River? I know the price is roughly $15 per pound, but I’m really on the fence about whether they actually taste good or what the presentation is like. From what I've heard, the plastic catering boxes are already included in the cost. If anyone has actually sampled their sweets, I would truly appreciate an honest opinion! Thanks so much!

I honestly had a feeling that a few things on this list might be right up your alley! If you do end up ordering anything at all, please, please do send over a photo—I’m just dying to see what you pick out! 😘

Lawrence Wilson77, you might want to give eBay a quick search; I have a feeling you'll find exactly what you're looking for there. Just be sure to look under the cake toppers category!

Oh, goodness, please forgive me! I truly didn't intend for my previous post to sound like I was trying to lecture anyone. As a brand-new bride, I am honestly just here to soak up all your wonderful advice, opinions, and firsthand experiences. I certainly don't think your guests are eating any more dessert than mine will, and I completely agree with you that my initial estimate was far too low. Honestly, I am such a disaster when it comes to numbers—counting people, measuring quantities, worrying over ribbons, picking out colors... it’s no wonder I might have tripped up on the math! Besides, I haven't even sat down with my baker yet. I’m sure she’ll tell me exactly what you all did... about 175 pounds. All I know is that there are roughly 28 to 30 cookies in a single kilogram. So, one cookie weighs about 1.17 ounces. If we aim for 7 ounces per person, that would be about 6 cookies each. Please, do correct me if I'm wrong, because math has always been my Achilles' heel!
Let me try to lay it out like this:
roughly 400 guests
7 ounces per person =
400 guests * 6 cookies = 2400 total cookies for the reception hall.
2400 * 1.17 ounces = 2808 ounces
2808 ounces / 16 ounces per pound = $1188

Does that look right? Perhaps a mathematician in the group could double-check my work for me...😁

As I mentioned earlier, my plan is to provide about 40 kilograms of dessert for a crowd of 400 guests, which breaks down to roughly 1,200 individual pieces organized into 60 different platters of 20 pieces each. To give you some context, my aunt works in catering at a large banquet hall, and she actually walked me through all the professional measurements; she suggests calculating based on about three treats per person. My reasoning there is that while not everyone will indulge, those who do tend to go back for a second or even a third helping!

Desserts might seem like a minor detail, but honestly, they are absolutely essential. I mean, can you even imagine a wedding without a dessert spread? It just wouldn't feel right! I’ve been doing some digging lately and realized that here in the US, especially around places like Chicago, catering costs for sweets can get incredibly pricey. I've been asking around quite a bit, trying to figure out if it's better to buy by the pound or by the individual piece. If you go by weight, you usually get about 25 to 30 pieces per pound depending on the size, but when they sell them individually, they range from $1.20 to $0.57. Given how things are looking right now, I think I'm going to stick to buying by the pound; I'm planning on getting about 60 trays with 20 pieces each, which brings us to a whopping 1,200 pieces just for the venue itself. On top of that, I still need enough for the celebration at home for my husband and me, and potentially—though I'm not really a huge fan of this idea—enough to serve guests at our house. At the end of the day, a pound of these treats is going to run me about $15, and that actually includes the plastic containers they come pre-packaged in for delivery to the hall. By the way, the owner of the venue actually makes them herself, though she works the night shift over at the local bakery...
How many different varieties do people usually go for? What kind of assortments are you all familiar with? I feel like I recognize every single one once I start eating 😍, but I'm honestly terrible at remembering their actual names...

As most of you all know by now, I’m getting married in about a year, but I have already found myself completely caught up in all the planning madness! I just had to share this particular vision I have in mind with you all. I am dreaming of a cake covered in fondant, finished off with these elegant ribbons—I’m leaning towards a deep burgundy or plum shade for those. As for the floral elements on top, whether they’ll be real blooms or delicate marzipan sculptures, well, I haven't quite decided yet; I suppose I’ll see how the inspiration flows!
My only real headache at the moment is tracking down a cake stand that matches this aesthetic.
Do you think a local glassblower or maybe someone at a shop like West Elm could custom-make something similar using plexiglass or a high-quality acrylic?

Oh, and please, don't hold back—what do you all think of the look??

Oh, my wonderful Midwest! I have finally tracked down some incredible cookies for just $15/lb! And get this—the owner of the venue where I’m hosting the wedding is actually going to bake them herself! She’ll handle everything from the baking to the individual packaging, then just drop them off at the venue. All I’ll have to do is set them out on the table!

So, I was wondering if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction regarding where one can actually source these specific wire "crocheted" cake ribbons:

Does anyone happen to have any leads or ideas on this?
