Zachary Ross6 said:I’ve dealt with some similar struggles myself, and honestly, I think that indecisiveness you're feeling stems from how you were raised—it sounds like things might have been a little too easy or pampered growing up. Look, that hesitation isn't going to just vanish overnight, but that’s really not the issue here; don't beat yourself up over it. The only thing that actually matters is focusing on building who you are right now—shaping yourself into someone steady, brave, and decisive as you move forward through life. What happened in the past is done, so there's no point in overthinking it or digging through old wounds. We should just hold onto the good memories and try to learn from our mistakes whenever they happen...
It all sounds great on paper, but at the end of the day, the real trick is actually putting it into practice and just living life to the absolute fullest!

Yeah, maybe I did have it a bit too easy growing up, but I also think this is just part of my DNA.
I haven't really found myself yet, so it's hard to even figure out where I fit in. To be honest, I catch myself just following what everyone else is doing, even if I won't admit it to myself.

Quincy:
The phrase "stop being such a wimp" is what people say:
"Man, quit whining like you're some kind of snowflake."

Whenever I get stuck in one of those moods, honestly, nothing snaps me out of it better than someone telling me exactly what's written above. It's the perfect wake-up call.
I don't usually snap out of it until my competitors have already left me in the dust.

But you can't overthink things either, or you'll end up stuck. (I saw somewhere that overthinking leads nowhere—just look at police officers or firefighters who have to make split-second calls)

From CNN:
Whether life dealt you a winning hand or a losing one, play your cards as best as you can. Take full ownership of your wins and your losses, your right moves and your mistakes, even your choice of partners or friends. That’s what Dr. Phil, famous for his appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show, says. In the movie of your life, you're the lead actor, and if you aren't happy with the script, stop blaming everyone else. Face your problems head-on.
If you hate your job, that's on you. If you've picked up extra weight that's weighing you down, you're the only one who can fix it. If you're miserable in your relationship or your social circle, you own that too. You are the one in control of your circumstances and the emotions they trigger. If you want to change something you're unhappy with, stop playing the victim and making excuses for your shortcomings. That's not a winning strategy for a meaningful life.

Thoughts can either liberate you or eat away at your soul.
Dr. Phil compares life to driving a car, noting that you need to grab the wheel because you are the sole driver from start to finish. You are your own manager, so hold yourself to a high standard in everything you do. Take pride in how you carry yourself, learn to master your emotions, strengthen your friendships, conquer your fears, and just be yourself. These are the essentials for living the life you actually want. Just remember to balance your potential with your expectations. Don't aim for impossible standards, but if you don't demand more from yourself, the quality of human life will suffer.
Don't let hatred, anger, or bitterness take the driver's seat; they drive up stress levels, drain your energy, and corrode the spirit. They are the enemies of inner peace that extinguish any spark of joy. Negative emotions act like poison in friendships and romances, and the only antidote is learning how to forgive. Forgiveness breaks the chains of resentment. You should forgive for your own sake, not for the person who hurt you. You don't need to wait for an apology or a confession of guilt; forgive them just to protect your own peace of mind.

It's easy to find great advice, but hard to actually live it. Plus, how do you even figure out what you really want out of life?

steelskipper4 said:Pol Pot, have you ever actually sat down with the works of George Ivanovich Gurdjieff? He makes the exact point you're currently wrestling with—that you feel a total lack of agency over your own existence. In fact, his whole thesis is that most people are essentially sleepwalking through life, their actions being nothing more than "mechanical" reactions triggered by random EXTERNAL circumstances, much like what you've been noticing lately. He also dives into this idea of human fragmentation, the delusion that we possess some sort of single, permanent "Self" when we really don't.

If you head over to this link, check out the "Gnosticism" folder, and you'll find these specific titles to get you started:

"view from the real world"
"Life is Real When I am Alive"
"quarter path"
"In Search of Miracles"

... and after that, if you're still hungry for more, you can wander through the rest of his bibliography. Honestly, what I've listed here is plenty to give you a starting point to recognize your own patterns in his writing.

The subsequent books will guide you toward understanding this massive anomaly that has plagued human history: the "inner monologue"—that relentless, torrential stream of thought flowing through the mind, and how devastatingly it impacts an individual who mistakenly identifies themselves as those very thoughts! Most people aren't even aware they've lost the steering wheel to the constant chatter in their heads; they just passively listen to it. Very few people actually possess the capacity for absolute mastery over their thoughts—the ability to bring that stream to a complete standstill.

Thanks, but Wikipedia just says he was a mystic. I haven't heard of him. Seems more like a theorist to me, and I need actual, practical help.🙂

Christian Sanchez4 said:Folks, you learn from your mistakes. There really isn't any other way—at least not a healthy one. You can't protect yourself from making a mistake, nor should you try. Mistakes are welcome; embrace them.😁 True intelligence isn't about doing everything perfectly, ideally, and flawlessly. That’s just some superhero anime trope.😁 Look around you, and you'll realize that the smartest people are those who have been through the wringer—they've been tested by fire😁 and learned through their own errors and screw-ups.
Just live.

Yeah, I agree. But learning from mistakes is a bit tricky for me because I don't actually know what I want most of the time, so I can't always tell if I even made the wrong call.
It sucks—I always find a reason to go for it and a reason to back off, so I end up stuck unable to make a single decision...🤷

Hey, you’re entitled to your own opinion.
For me, though, the way certain individuals acted and the comments they made felt totally rude—they had absolutely nothing to do with anything, let alone the movie itself.

And I don't see anything wrong with people getting up and leaving early... honestly, they have every right to spend their time however they want.

It’s just sad that we live in a world where everything is driven by this "fast-paced" mentality...😕

You might have better luck asking this over in the other sports subforum... Personally, I used to use Crazy Creek chairs and they were awesome. They’re my go-to whenever I just want to relax outdoors.

Since you're just starting out and you're only 16, I really don't think you should be messing with any supplements or dietary additives yet—maybe wait another year or two before even thinking about it...
When it comes to hitting those abs, the best moves are sit-ups on a decline bench (you know, that slanted one), followed by leg raises on a Roman chair... there are plenty of other ways to sculpt your core too, like abdominal contractions, lying leg raises on a flat bench, Russian twists, and more. Since you're joining a gym, definitely go talk to a personal trainer there; they'll be able to give you the best guidance on proper form, breathing techniques, nutrition, and all that good stuff. Just whatever you do, don't quit...
I honestly think you’d be smarter asking over here, since you'll get a much wider variety of people with different backgrounds who might actually know 😉

You might not know exactly what it is, but you definitely know this current gig isn't cutting it.sEventually, something will come along that you'll actually be excited about.[/U]

I guess so, but my problem is I won't recognize it when it happens, and then I'll just end up kicking myself later...
To be honest, I'm the type who only realizes what I had after I've already messed it up. But since I tend to overthink things, I think I'd mostly regret losing the option itself—you know, the loss of choice—rather than the specific path I could have taken.
