Why is everyone so pissed off? in Psychology ·
Morgan Bishop4 said:I started noticing it back when spring kicked in, you know...
everyone is just picking fights, everyone is totally on edge,
people who have been in super long-term relationships are breaking up—like, three-year stints and stuff, okay, maybe not everyone,
then obviously you’ve got those people who are actually hitting it off in amazing new relationships lately...
but man...
I don't even know
friends are snapping at each other left and right, it’s a total disaster.
And I heard all this within a single week—this guy fought with that guy, that person isn't talking to them anymore, now everyone hates this girl because she did this and that, and these two broke up... I mean... I was thinking, honestly, thank god I'm staying out of it...
But then, damn it, yesterday my sister starts losing her mind and getting pissed at me over nothing, just some stupid computer thing...
and then my best friend gets mad at me too, because apparently I've been getting on her nerves lately, or she's just stressed and everything I say or do is annoying her. Okay, there are other reasons, blah blah blah... but still.

I just don't know anymore, I have no clue how to act. What am I supposed to do?! (I mean, my sister isn't really an issue, we bicker all the time anyway... but still)
I seriously don't know what people expect from me, man, I really don't,
and because of all this chaos, I end up getting pissed and worked up myself and I just lose it...
I don't even know why I'm writing this, it's just... I needed to vent somewhere,
and I don't even know what I want people to tell me... it's just a total mess, a complete nightmare.

And the thing is, yesterday I was being so chill about it, I wasn't taking any of it seriously. I was thinking—whatever, they'll cool off, it's fine, she's just a little cranky.
But then today it hits us too, and I don't know, I just don't know what else to say.
Oh, wait, I just remembered—

I don't know if people are just feeling the spring fever, or if it's the month plus the sunshine plus something else...
or if it's my fault,
or if it's just the air here in Chicago,
or I don't know, I just don't knooooow...

since we don't have Racan anymore, we're all just spiraling, terrified that this pathetic excuse for a country is going to go even further down the drain.🤣

But seriously though....
I literally had a nervous breakdown yesterday:
My mom's boyfriend is screaming at her because she has "mental health issues"... then she turns around and snaps at me because I'm being "irresponsible," then she yells at me because my boyfriend is "unreliable," then her boyfriend starts yelling at me because he's losing his mind, so I—poor, frustrated soul—snap at my own boyfriend because everyone is being a jerk to me, and of course, he loses it on me too..... and then I end up sitting in my room like some crying toddler, sobbing and asking whyyyyyyyy life is so haaaaaaaard... ugh.
I feel so ugly... in Psychology ·
Everyone thinks their issues are the center of the universe, don't they?
Just take a second to think about all those kids out there fighting terminal illnesses... maybe that'll give you some perspective.

By the way, I’m not trying to be a jerk here, I'm just saying.🙂

Robert Murphy8 said:Look, my philosophy is pretty simple: if I give someone my heart, I expect them to show up and return the favor. That’s it. It’s not about being petty; it’s just that I have no interest in pouring energy into a void. I'm not some wide-eyed optimist who doesn't see what's happening right in front of her.
As for anyone who can't meet me halfway? They can take a hike and find somewhere else to be.
That's just how it is.

Don't be like that; that's a pretty cold way to look at things. With an attitude like yours, you're basically no different from all those "villains" people complain about. Why do you have to put a price tag on being kind?
Look, we're human beings. We have expectations. That's just how it works. People let you down constantly—you aren't going to go around throwing stones at everyone who fails you.

Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely no Mary Wollstonecraft.😬

Robert Murphy8 said:Look, here’s my take: I approach everyone with the assumption that they’re fundamentally good. I just don't get it lately. Why does it feel like everyone is working overtime to prove they’re actually the exact opposite? It feels universal. I try to help people, point them toward what I think is their best path—I don't mind sharing a breakthrough I've worked hard on if it might make their lives easier or help them succeed. I go out of my way to smile at people. But honestly, I can't tell if society has truly devolved into this mass of selfish, malicious actors, or if everyone has just become incredibly paranoid. Every time I offer a smile, people recoil like I’m about to vomit on them. It’s a pattern: the more I need a bit of warmth, the colder and more guarded people become. Is it just me, or is this happening to everyone else too? And once you actually start talking to someone, they don't even hesitate to throw a nasty insult right in your face. I keep adjusting my attitude toward them, hoping things will shift, but it never does. Maybe I trust people too easily? Maybe I'm just being a nuisance? Regardless, I feel a total lack of respect from those around me, even at 28. Do you all feel this same disconnect from people, or am I just shouting into a void? Have people really changed this much, or is there something else broken? I struggle to find any sincerity, kindness, or genuine innocence anymore. In anyone.

I'm right there with you. I actually had a bit of a meltdown just a moment ago because I've been noticing—and it's finally hit me hard—just how incredibly selfish and cruel people can be.
Everyone is constantly tearing each other down. Sure, I can take a joke, but some people just cross the line. It feels like if you want to avoid being the daily target of someone's tasteless commentary, you have to look "acceptable," talk a certain way, listen to specific music, laugh at the "right" things, watch the trendy movies, buy the right brands, and parrot everyone else's opinions. God forbid you say something slightly stupid, trip over your words mid-sentence, or miss a double entendre... then you're fair game.
Most of the people acting like this clearly have deep-seated issues with themselves, so it's easier to just find a scapegoat to vent on.

Honestly, evolutionarily speaking, we haven't moved an inch since the days when crowds would stone people to death. A mob is still just a bunch of people with smiles on their faces and "warmth" in their hearts while they point fingers at the accused.

An IQ of 106? That’s hardly impressive... personally, I’m pretty sure mine is way higher—I eat meat. Look, IQ isn't some magic number for how much you actually know about life. These tests are too narrow; they don't account for the actual complexities of being a human being.
I think this whole thing is tied to some moral high ground about not killing living things... but honestly, what does that even matter if you're still walking around in leather boots? As for healthy eating, you shouldn't go overboard with anything—too much fat, sugar, or salt is the real killer. If you watch those, your risk of a heart attack drops significantly without having to pin everything solely on meat consumption.
And let's be real: it's easy for these wealthy socialites to play vegetarian when they have endless money to spend on all those fancy organic substitutes. Let them try living on nothing but canned green beans and leeks every single day, and they'll be begging for a burger in no time.😬

Man, you aren't wrong... I really just need to start taking my own advice first.
Steven Anderson13 said:What is going on here, guys? We’re heading into the holidays and the forum is just getting flooded with depressing topics.
And yeah, I’m not feeling it at all. I’m hitting rock bottom...😲

Clearly we’re just a nation of depressives.
Well, that’s exactly why this forum exists. You pop in here, realize there are people doing way worse than you, and suddenly you're thinking, "Thank God I don't have those specific problems," or you find someone who relates to you perfectly. It's basically an answer to your own problems.
Look, you just have to accept them for what they are. Turn your head, walk away, and go find whatever actually makes you happy and keeps you inspired... though, obviously, that all depends on how much of a mess the situation is and how deep you're in the trenches.
