I am building a gaming rig for a friend with a $5,000 budget, so I require your expert guidance. The goal is simple: maximize FPS at any cost. He already owns the monitor and peripherals.

What kind of power supply would you recommend?
As for RAM, I'm looking at either Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB or G.Skill Trident Z.

I picked this up about 2 years ago with your help, but I'm ready to sell it all and upgrade.

I read that AMD is unveiling their new CPU lineup at CES. Should I wait for the reviews and benchmarks to drop, or just jump straight to a new Ryzen 5?

Regarding the motherboard—is an x470 necessary, or is a b450 enough?

As for GPUs, AMD is dropping new cards that should have great value, but right now I'm eyeing an rtx2080; I see some decent ones on Newegg for around $800.
For storage, I'll go with a 240gb SATA or NVMe SSD and a 2tb HDD.
RAM might be something like Corsair Vengeance RGB 16gb 2666mhz.

Since I don't have the cash to buy everything at once, I'll probably wait until early 2019. Does it make sense to buy parts gradually? Like, if I snag a good motherboard on sale during Christmas, then grab something else in February?
Also, will RAM prices drop? I assume GPU prices will fall, unless we hit another crypto boom.

As stated in my opening post, I have an ASUS B150 motherboard. I found an Intel Core i7-6700 available; if I grab that now, will my current power supply handle it? And then, in a couple of months, I'll pick up an NVIDIA GTX 1080.

If I manage to track down a used CPU, will this motherboard actually handle an Intel Core i7-6700 and an NVIDIA GTX 1080? And what kind of power supply should I be looking at?

A year ago, you helped me put together a solid build for $750. Now I’m wondering if upgrading it actually makes any sense.

Current specs:
Corsair,
EVGA AMD Radeon RX 470
Intel Core i3-6098P (
Seagate Barracuda 1TB, 64MB, 7200rpm,
ASUS B150
Crucial 8 GB, G.SKILL Value DDR4 2133MHz
Kingston UV400 120GB SSD, 2
EVGA 500W

What should I swap out first? This PC is primarily for gaming.
Adding another 8GB of Crucial is a must; running PUBG and Chrome at the same time leaves me with zero available memory.

Last year, I paid $127 for those 8GB of Crucial, and now they're priced at $237. Is anyone actually sane? What is happening with these prices?
Would it be smarter to just sell this rig and build something entirely new?
I'm looking at an NVIDIA GTX 1080—is it worth putting that on this motherboard? Plus a new CPU? Is that even doable with a new power supply?
Let's say my budget is around $800.

edit: I forgot to mention that if it's cheaper, I can order parts from European shops that ship to Graz, like Amazon.de.

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but don't bother buying converters at local shops—they're an absolute rip-off.

It was only five bucks, arrived in about two and a half weeks, and works perfectly.

I need help deciding. There isn't much of a gap between the RX 470 and the RX 480, so which one makes more sense to buy?
Should I go with the MSI gaming rx 470 or maybe the XFX rx 480 or the Sapphire RX480 nitro + ? It's about a $100 difference—which is actually worth it?
My CPU is an Intel i3-6098p and I'm running a Fortron Hyper 500w power supply.

So you're saying you'd prefer a 4GB card over this 2GB one? I checked some benchmarks, and there’s barely a 2 or 3 FPS difference between them. Is it even worth the extra cash for that card? Or am I missing something here?

Also, if I hold off on buying for a month or two, will some new, cheaper cards hit the market? Is waiting actually worth it?

P.S. I forgot to ask. You included a fan Cooler for the Athlon build but skipped it for the Intel setup. Does an Athlon run that much hotter, or what's the deal?

Can someone help me put together a gaming build?
I want to play CS:GO, GTA V, FIFA 17, Just Cause 3, Rocket League, and a few others, though I'll mostly be multitasking.

I need a solid GPU, an SSD (120GB should suffice), and a DVD drive.

Ideally, it needs to stay under $4,000—actually, even less.😁

A rhetorical question doesn't require an answer, does it? 😵 😉

So, I run it for maybe five or six hours before shutting it down for the night. Now it stays on for two hours, and the CPU temperature is hitting 78°C. I even uninstalled CoreTemp, but CPU-Z shows the exact same thing. What am I supposed to do with that?

Is it really a rug if I only clean it once every ten months? Hardly.
Well, that's it. I'll blow out the dust, apply some new thermal paste, and we'll see what happens.

By the way, those temps are too high. Is 75C really okay for a CPU? It certainly isn't cold.

Someone mentioned a 560ti earlier. Wouldn't that fit this build perfectly? 🙂 It’d make a decent mid-range gaming rig.

What if I take it apart, blow it out with compressed air, and swap the thermal paste? It hasn't seen a repair shop in years...

What kind of cash could I pull for this?
