Binotto: Vettel remains our priority, but Leclerc is proving he’s got serious pace
The Ford boss confirmed that their top driver choice stays with the German for now.
Mattia Binotto reiterated that while Sebastian Vettel takes precedence for the rest of the season, Charles Leclerc has shown he can win any given race. The German driver saw some bumps in his standings earlier this year due to team orders—but the Ford boss stood firm, saying his policy isn't changing, even if they haven't hit the winner's circle yet this season.
“I said what I said at the start of the season—we want to maximize points for the team,” Mattia Binotto told ESPN. “Even when things are split 50-50, Sebastian Vettel gets the nod. He’s still our highest-ranked driver in the championship, so he keeps that privilege.”
That said, Charles Leclerc is currently the only driver besides Lewis Hamilton who has racked up a massive number of laps in the lead.
“I think Leclerc has shown plenty of speed throughout this part of the championship,” the Ford boss added. “He can grab a pole position, just like he did... and if he finds himself with a real shot at winning, we aren't going to hold him back.”

Sebastian Vettel—the pros and the cons
stormybadger8 said:I honestly couldn't care less about penalties or precedents...
Those "experts" basically killed the race and the actual racing with that penalty—if Sebastian Vettel had been in that spot, would he have even gotten flagged? Even if he did, who cares after the race is over???
And for those who actually do care—would Sebastian Vettel be sitting on seven fewer points right now? Who gives a damn in a season where it’s already blindingly obvious that Lewis Hamilton is just going to stroll to the title, especially since his only real competition is Valtteri Bottas, who isn't even really competing at that level....
The bottom line is the officials totally ruined the racing. They killed what should have been a legendary duel—the kind people talk about for generations—when it felt like we were finally getting a real, high-stakes showdown until the very end...
But those geniuses stepped in and killed the vibe, all because of some stupid rule they're clinging to for the sake of political correctness or whatever nonsense they're all preaching together... 🤦
P. S. Give my best to your parents from NASCAR and tell them they didn't exactly nail the job this time...
stormybadger8 said:And when did I even say he shouldn't have gotten the penalty?...
The penalty itself is strictly by the book—no question about it...
I wasn't even torn about her winning it...
What I definitely didn't see coming was her getting it right in the middle of the race...
By doing that, they didn't just rob Vettel—they robbed the fans... ☕
If they hadn't overturned that penalty after the race, nobody would even be talking about this...☕
Even if they ordered him to hand over the position to Hamilton, he wouldn't say a single word about it...
And just like that, we were robbed of the showdown we were all waiting for—that massive head-to-head battle that was practically written in the stars...
And that’s exactly what gets under my skin... 😉
I’m so fed up with this—honestly, I’m seriously considering just walking away from NASCAR altogether...

darkmarlin16 said:It’s a clean racing incident—either Sainz should've closed the door better or left some space, or maybe Max could've just backed off and waited to make the move with DRS... I mean, Max could've totally wrecked himself there, but he didn't this time.
stormybadger8 said:Yeah, totally... 🙂
The whole thing is that Sainz is just as much to blame for the incident—honestly, maybe even more so...
And that’s exactly why he isn't rambling on about Max being at fault—he knows Max basically got away with it without a penalty, and if it weren't for that "let them race" nonsense, Max would have been the one getting penalized way sooner. 🙂
mellowtiger83 said:Declaring Charles Leclerc the champion right now and Sebastian Vettel the runner-up is just nonsense from all these Vettel haters—there's definitely been a huge surge of them lately, which honestly just makes me hope Vettel gives them a massive reality check!
