so what's the damage like with their prices?
have you actually grabbed any cakes or pastries from them before?
(I know I'm firing off questions like crazy here, but honestly, every little detail helps me out 🙂 )

don't mention it—just go ahead and ask.🙂

Yeah, I grabbed both the cake and the pastries. A girl on a forum recommended them to me, and now I use them for basically all my pastry needs—even for weddings.
Not sure what their current wedding rates are, but when I picked up some treats for Christmas, they were $27/lb.
We were super happy with them—you can work out whatever deal suits you, and they gave us solid advice on quantities and everything else...😍
If you have anything specific in mind, just say the word.

Honestly, I’m at my breaking point—I need to get all this dessert planning sorted out on my own right now so I can just totally kick back and relax for the next two months... 😁

Little cookie house. 👍

Sandra Campbell9 said:Thanks for the reply, but... I find myself unable to fully agree with that assessment. You see, we’re expecting roughly 350 guests, and our plan includes a wedding cake along with about a dozen other cakes and assorted pastries. In most instances, the main wedding cake isn't even finished entirely because, well, not everyone eats it—it varies from person to person, I suppose—but naturally, I would love for mine to be a bit more substantial. To my mind, those figures exceeding $500 seem rather excessive.. 😲If we consider what an average cake costs (at least here in the States $43), then a four-tier wedding cake (which is more or less what I am envisioning) should probably run somewhere around $173... And since this is intended to be the centerpiece, and given that I would certainly be willing to pay a premium for high-quality fondant work, I imagine $333 would be a perfectly reasonable amount of wiggle room, ☕hehe.
It seems some people take advantage of the situation, though, and let the prices skyrocket... it's honestly quite dreadful! 🙄

I don't even know where you're getting that price for a standard cake $43 or how big this thing actually is—how many slices are we talking about?😕
In New York City, I doubt you can find a basic cake for $43.

I don't think you can just generalize and say anything over $500 is crazy. It's not the same whether you're hosting 100 people or 500.
I paid $500 for mine, and that was for 150 people. If you're saying you'll have 12 other cakes too, then you aren't ordering this main one to feed all 350 people. If those 12 cakes have at least 20 slices each, that's already 240 slices right there. So, this main wedding cake would only need to cover about 100 people...🙂

I actually used that little bakery once😍...😍...

I was pretty happy with them—can shoot you the details via DM if you want... but honestly, you probably won't mess this up.
this was my wedding cake:

Here’s another useful link from that local bakery—take a look:

They've got an entire album of wedding cakes...🙂

Drew Foster11 said:Ugh, Mitch😢, I was actually planning on picking up some pastries and a cake from them... though I wouldn't drop more than $27 on the cookies. As for the cake, I just want it to actually taste good and look exactly like the photo I showed them. And honestly, with the pastries, every single kind should have its own distinct flavor. I'm so over places where everything tastes identical—like you're eating the same thing five times in a row. Just gross. So, where else can I go to find the good stuff?🤷

William Parker61 said:I have begun testing cake options for the wedding. My shortlist currently includes about ten different bakeries. The first was Emma's shop in Smalltown, USA, where the sweets cost $33 per pound. These cakes are loaded with margarine, which is completely unacceptable to me...

Ladies, here's my take—I already mentioned this before, but I definitely went with the Small House for the wedding cakes and dessert spread. $27per pound
Not gonna hype it up too much—you really just gotta try it for yourself. Every dessert has its own vibe, which is how it should be, and they aren't loaded with cheap margarine like most stuff. Just give 'em a shot...🙂
I heard about them on here too—some girl I know already used them for her wedding.

Raymond Robinson said:wedding cake toppers

Ladies, I am officially begging for your expert advice!
Does anyone know where I can find or order some unique cake toppers? I'm looking for something a little more unconventional—maybe a scene where the bride is making a run for it while the groom is chasing after her? Something playful like that...
Please, I am truly, desperately seeking your help!

Raymond Robinson, check out Hobby Lobby—they have everything. Just look at their site... I think I saw one where the bride is dragging the groom by his tie, or maybe carrying him over her shoulder...

We recently tried Kašnar, and they were actually pretty good—not life-changing, but definitely the best we’ve had so far. My only gripe is how they cut them; they're such small bites that it feels like you're just snacking rather than enjoying a real treat...

I’ve noticed people on here recommending Cookie House quite a bit. Has anyone actually ordered from them before?
What about srčeko?

Finding the right sweets is a big deal for me because my guests are total dessert fanatics...

The treats at Small House are absolute perfection!!!!!!!!!!!!
They did both the cake and the desserts for my wedding.
Kashner is fine, too, but I was at a wedding this past Saturday and finally got to try a huge variety. Honestly? They don't taste homemade to me—everything looks way too manicured. Every crust is the exact same thickness, exactly 2mm of cream, every cherry perfectly placed. They just don't have that homemade look.
But I can't deny they taste okay...
When I was picking stuff for my wedding, the most important thing was that it felt homemade and high quality. I didn't care much about the price—the difference is only a few dozen bucks—and I wasn't about to pay for desserts that look like they came out of a factory bag.

No shots from the dessert buffet at the venue, but here's how they were arranged at home

And this was my cake—my wedding bouquet had similar wildflowers, so I kept the whole vibe consistent.

20 kg for 150 people?! Wow, that's a massive difference from what I was planning. Did you give any away later, or was it all just for the hotel?
I'm assuming this little bakery is in Chicago 😢, so it doesn't really help me much right now!!

I forgot to mention that my estimate of 30 kg for 80 people includes the cocktail hour—you know, that gathering before the ceremony starts. 🤷
But I guess it's all basically the same thing anyway. 😕

I went with exactly 0.8kg of sweets for every 6 people. Tables had 12 guests, so basically two trays per table.
At home, my husband had 2kg and I had 4kg—and we didn't even finish it all...
We ordered extra from that 20kg batch specifically to pack up—about 8oz in each little box.

The small bakery is in Chicago

Anthony Nguyen85 said:Anyone here already been through the wedding planning madness who can give me some real advice on dessert catering? I need the actual numbers—like how much we ordered versus what actually got eaten, and how much ended up being wasted or left over.
thanks

i’ve been through the whole wedding thing myself, so maybe i can help you out.....
had 150 guests and ordered about 45 pounds of sweets from the caterer—there was still plenty left sitting on plates at the tables, so yeah, people didn't finish everything.
everything came from this local boutique bakery👍, both the cake and the individual treats, and honestly? they were incredible.....they even handled all the plating for the venue and my house, plus I bought these cute little giveaway boxes from them for after the reception, and they even packed everything into those for me.
The cake was delicious—super clean and simple, since I'm not really into that tacky, over-the-top stuff. I just showed them a photo of what I wanted, but they're pretty easy to work with. I heard about them from a few other women on this forum and I'd definitely recommend them.

if you need anything else, just ask.....😉

velvetraven12 said:I honestly don't know what to say... my cake was just a letdown! I ordered a Black Forest cake, but it didn't live up to any of my expectations—which is frustrating, especially since I went in feeling so confident after reading all those glowing reviews on this forum!
But hey, it’s just one single dessert... maybe everything else they make is actually fantastic! What stung the most, though, was seeing other people chime in, saying it wasn't even close to a real Black Forest cake and complaining about how dry and subpar it was. I really don't want to leave a bad review; perhaps I just had a stroke of bad luck with that specific order, and maybe their other treats are absolutely stellar!

Honestly, I'm surprised because I've been ordering from them forever and they're usually great... though I'm not really a Black Forest person, so I haven't tested that specific one.
Everything else they do is legit, though. Plus, they're super nice people...

Jesse Nguyen5 said:After doing some digging and asking around, I think things are finally starting to make sense in my head...😵 It’s a bit of a tough call, so I’m planning to head out this Saturday to sample some treats. 🙂 But before I go, I was wondering if any of you could share your own experiences or maybe some intel regarding:

The local bakery downtown
The little cookie shop on the corner
The neighborhood pastry place
The old-school cookie stand

Price isn't really an issue for any of them, so my decision will ultimately come down to whoever has the best recommendation or whose stuff actually hits the spot once I taste it.
Thanks, ladies

Give all the credit to the Little Cookie House.....🙂🙂🙂

duh, obviously you can have different flavors... it’s just stupid when some bakery acts like they’re the ones calling the shots. i mean, it’s your wedding—you're the one cutting the check for the cake and all those desserts—so you get to decide the look, the taste, whatever. i don't get how anyone could tell you the first three layers HAVE to be parfait. Dama 19, maybe dig into why she even said that, but honestly? I don't see any logic in it at all...

What if we went with a different flavor for every single layer? That would be my idea, anyway...

I dig the first one way more.
feraltrucker22—not sure why you think those first three layers have to be parfait—someone totally gave you bad info...
If the cake is on separate stands—you know, each one standing alone—flavor doesn't even matter; do whatever you want. But if they're stacked like what amberseal22 wants, you just need the bottom layers to be sturdy—like chocolate or walnut—while the top can be anything. Parfait isn't some mandatory rule.

John Hayes5 said:I am 100% backing that recommendation for Little House of Cookies! They’re super friendly, their treats are incredible, and they’re actually willing to work with you on things—plus, the prices are actually reasonable compared to how much other places rip you off by the pound!!!!!!!! casualbison14, thanks for the tip, they are awesome!!!!!!!

No worries. Glad I could help. I love shouting out people who made my wedding unforgettable.

Jesse Nguyen5 said:Well, here I am again, dealing with more complications... 🙂
(as per usual)😛

My partner and I have been thinking... we really don't want the cookies just sitting out on the tables all night long. It feels wrong. We'd much prefer them served properly, you know, as a dessert after the main course. And honestly, we aren't interested in that whole "mountain of tiny bite-sized treats" situation where half of them are just cheap variations on a theme that nobody actually touches. Instead, we were thinking of ordering maybe five distinct types, but actual, substantial desserts—think things like gourmet brownies, decadent pastry squares, or fruit bars. Just high-quality pieces, even if there are fewer of them.

But here's the catch... most of the bakeries we're looking at specialize in those tiny little finger foods. If they even offer a dessert service, it’s usually through these upscale boutiques with absolutely insane prices, like $3.00 per piece. And we're planning for a wedding of 200 people!!
Do any of you have any bright ideas, or perhaps know of somewhere with more reasonable pricing? 😕

Also, I was wondering if anyone knows where one might find those clear, elegant cellophane bags—the kind used for packaging high-end truffles in fancy shops? I'd love to pair them with a fresh ribbon tied at the top... 😍

Regarding the sweets; your idea is solid. I agree that half those tiny little things go uneaten and just clutter the table all night. I always recommend Little House of Cookies because I buy from them constantly and they did the desserts for my wedding. Last year I grabbed some for a birthday and brought them to work. It's pretty much what you're thinking—larger creamy squares—and the price per pound was basically the same as the tiny ones.
Check the flower market downtown for those bags... I think they should have them there... look for a shop called Good Partner...
