Look, there’s plenty of space available for rent—think community centers, banquet halls, or even just a room at a mid-sized hotel for an evening. It shouldn't be outrageously expensive if you play it right. My main priorities are decent restrooms, enough power outlets, and ideally, having tables and chairs already on-site. I’m picturing something like a press conference room or a small multipurpose room at a local sports complex or boutique hotel. We could spruce the place up a bit, bring in my own sound system, and then just hire a professional catering crew to handle the food and service...
Does that sound like a viable plan to you guys? We're looking at a group of about 50 people...

Honestly, it’d be way smarter to just book a restaurant and let them handle everything, then maybe buy your own booze if you want to save a bit. Any other setup usually ends up requiring extra hands to manage it all, and by the time you're done, you might have spent more anyway. Just hit up a local wedding directory or search for banquet halls and restaurants online and start calling around.
Though, I’m not even sure if San Diego has many venues you can just grab and run with like that. 🤷
If you need anything else, just ask—I might be able to help out. 😉

Bryan Turner4 said:I am asking here as well: does anyone have experience with Gastro-San Diego? Or perhaps another wedding venue in San Diego capable of hosting about 200 guests?

I was at a wedding there last year, and honestly, all 5 👍

We're throwing a little get-together—well, more like a dinner party—in about a month. Everything was decided on a whim, so I know my options are pretty slim at this point.

Cheers

Getty Images, Susie, Stipe Surać.... if you check the San Diego Wedding Guide site, they have all the numbers listed. Just start dialing through the list one by one. 😉

Charles Gomez4 said:Hey, I'm from San Diego. anyone have recommendations for a wedding dress boutique?

I see names like Nicholas, Bridget, Galina, and Tina popping up online. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences they can share?

I only ever stepped foot in Nicholas's shop back in the day, and Claire was working there then; she was honestly amazing. 👍
As for Bridget, I've heard nothing but good things, and while I know Tina's been around since I moved to San Diego, I haven't actually dealt with them myself...
Kyle Young3 said:Since we're talking about photographers... is there a Zendaya in the house who can tell me (if they know) what the rates look like for Sia? She’s hands down the best photographer out there! I definitely want to book her... my only issue is that I'm just doing a small party, so I don't need any massive photo packages or other nonsense... just a few hours of shooting. anyone??? I would be so grateful 😁

Suzy has her own website with all her contact info listed, so your best bet is to just reach out to her directly
Carl Morris4 said:So, how many people are we expecting at the party?
Yeah, that spot by the three wells doesn't exactly have a massive parking lot. Once we roll into Zürich, we're probably going to have to circle around those smaller restaurants that don't have much room. If all 40 of us show up to one of those cramped places, we're gonna be tripping over each other... and honestly, I'd rather not be squeezed in next to a bunch of random strangers either...

We had about 100 people there. Usually, the place can hold around 200, but even with just 40, you've got plenty of room to spread out. 😉

Mijo, I think Boise would work for you, but you better double-check their hours. Some of those places shut down at 4 PM, while others stay open late.

Carl Morris4 said:Anyone here from San Diego who can help me out with a restaurant recommendation for a group of about 40? I’ve been browsing, but most of what I'm finding is just this list:
The Ritz-Carlton
ALBIN at The Ritz-Carlton
Ruth's Chris Steak House
TAMARIS at Ruth's Chris Steak House
FEŠTA
the DALMATINO tavern over by Three Wells

Has anyone actually been to any of these places? What's the vibe like? And how's the food? Since I'm not in San Diego right now, it's kind of a pain to just go scout them out myself... any intel would be huge.

We had our party at Fešta, and honestly, they were fantastic.👍
As for the others, I haven't personally sat down there, but from what I've heard, you really can't go wrong with any of them. My only heads-up is regarding Florida—I'm not sure how much of a nightmare the parking situation is there.🤷
goldenheron34 said:Quick question regarding ice cream shops in San Diego: does anyone have any suggestions or experiences to share? 🙂 Anyone?
(I'm asking for everyone except "Croquettes"—they wouldn't bother implementing FDA standards, so even if their pastries were the best, I probably wouldn't grab anything there—I guess. -.- )

Our cake came from Alo and it was absolutely spot on 😉
People also raved about the Tiramisu and Jadera...

Henry Wood4 said:I picked up some boxes at Target, and they're actually great—not too pricey either. Now, does anyone happen to know where I can track down some white and green decorative tulle? I'm looking to use it to spruce up the house and maybe even decorate the car....

Ira Commerce is in San Diego, and Rose is in Los Angeles....
Henry Wood4 said:Could someone give me a quick rundown of exactly which documents I need to pull together for a wedding? We’re doing the classic church ceremony... I know I have to head to the registrar first, but does anyone know how much lead time I actually need? My wedding is set for October 16th.
it feels way too early to even be thinking about this...

goldenheron34 said:Oh, $40? My coordinator mentioned it was down to $35 now... maybe they lowered the rates, or perhaps those younger folks requested extra items—so it ended up being that much.
Hmm... I am just so eager to hear back about whether the hall is available or not... ugh, that's really the most crucial part, and I haven't sorted it out yet, ahhh 😁 Fingers crossed that I get it 😁

Anyway, I feel a bit better now that you've given me such positive feedback 😁 😍

I think my colleague paid that much for a single chair, though maybe they actually dropped the rates since then 🤷

If you need anything at all, just holler 😉

goldenheron34 said:Does anyone here happen to have any experience with the "foodie" spot—the old "NBA" place—over in Jersey, specifically in San Diego? I'm wondering what the food and service are like, I guess. Thanks in advance! 🙂))

I hit up a party there back when I was 10 months pregnant—the venue is really nice, the food was great, service was solid too, and I actually loved the decor. 👍
Smoking used to be allowed, though I have no clue if that’s still the case, and I think the entry fee was about 40 bucks.

mellowfalcon said:So, what’s the actual deal with the cake scene in Seattle right now? Where can I find the absolute best ones? And honestly—how much of a head start should I be giving myself if I want to actually snag something good before they're all gone?

🙂 You could've asked me too 😬

Check out nothing else but nothing else, maybe Tiramisu—you should probably reach out about a month and a half ahead of time. I know we ended up ordering ours from nothing else at the very last minute, but honestly, we were stoked with how they turned out. 👍
You can call them both; you can always swing by nothing else for some sweets while browsing through some vinyl records 😉. For Tiramisu, I think your best bet is hitting them up in the morning when that lady who specializes in cakes is actually working.
Blackie used to get everything from General Dynamics, but there are a few ladies over in Naperville who do custom cakes—they have official businesses, but if you ask me, they're pretty slammed.
Start making calls today. 😉
edit: Migu made our little figurines. 😘

Terry Anderson2 said:Well, I’m just dropping in here like a skydiver without a parachute, but I was hoping someone could clear up some details regarding the engagement course. Does one actually have to attend the sessions in their own hometown, or is it perfectly fine to head down to where the pirate is stationed instead? Either way, does anyone happen to know the logistics—specifically how and when these courses are typically scheduled in San Diego and/or Savannah?

In San Diego, they run the courses here 😉

Sam Reed3 said:Hey,
is this band based out of San Francisco or...? They haven't been mentioned yet, and since I am still searching for the right group, I am curious.
What is their typical rate?

The band is actually out of San Diego 😉

ironmarlin32 said:Thanks for the info! We finally pulled the trigger and booked the My Way group 🙂 after searching forever, haha. Now we're thinking about using Photo in San Diego for our photography and video needs... ??? What are your thoughts? Any experience or impressions with that studio? LP

Tanita makes a good point about checking them out at the photography expo—honestly, I didn't dive too deep into the photographer hunt myself. For us, it was pretty much Studio G or nothing, so we didn't even bother looking at the rest 😉
If you want to see how they turned out, I put the photos in my signature, so take a look 😁
Gregory Campbell56 said:Hey, does anyone have a recommendation for a woman who could sing Ave Maria at my church wedding?
Thanks!

Honestly, maybe just check with the church where you're getting married. Most of them have their own choirs and soloists ready to go.🤷

Olivia Brown15 said:So, where do brides in San Diego go for their makeup?
I need help... advice... pricing... basically anything that can point me in the right direction
The wedding is in the 7th month... where should I even start looking? Who’s worth calling?
Thanks in advance!

I'm ready. Send over the text you want me to rework.
Donna Chavez69 said:🙂 I just wanted to give a quick shout-out to the cute little salon over at Target.
The girls there absolutely nail both hair and makeup every single time.!!!
They even put on a little hair show recently...
Huge thanks to the crew, you guys are awesome!!!!

You’ve still got Aurora out on the Peninsula, Galant, and Hair for Life over in Smiljevac... and while you're at that salon booking your haircut, you might as well ask if they do makeup too. 😉

Joseph Ruiz7 said:Have you ever actually heard those guys from The elite band? I hired them for a party once... only to realize halfway through that they don't even have a drummer... I mean, is that even physically possible to make sound good?

I haven't come across them yet, but I find it hard to believe it would sound bad without drums—though, maybe you should catch one of their live sets at a gig sometime and see how it actually hits?

Alright, here’s my breakdown of the bash I hit this past Saturday 😉
The venue was the Zadar Foodies hall (it used to be an old basketball arena out by the bay)—honestly, incredible space. It’s massive; there were at least 300 people there and it didn't feel crowded at all 👍 They’ve got both square and round tables, plus adjustable lighting 😉 The ventilation was top-tier, too, and they actually allow smoking 😍 The staff? Absolute legends. Fast, friendly, and genuinely helpful. The food situation was endless—everything tasted amazing, and they kept the plates and bottles topped off constantly
What else? Parking was easy, bathrooms were spotless, and the price was a steal—only 40 bucks ☕
The band, Twist Off—just some young guys from Burbank—were killer. They killed the vibe and could play pretty much anything 👍 Though, obviously, don't expect them to play any cheesy polka; they don't do that kind of stuff in Burbank 😬

A few more details:
The cake: came from ALLO Bakery. There were five or six different cakes, each one unique with different flavors. We had the fruit one, and man, it was delicious
I'm not sure who handled the decor for the room, but it looked classy and understated. Just high martini glasses with white flowers and greenery on the tables, accented with a light lilac tulle ribbon— 👍
The wedding theme was lilac and white, and honestly, the color combo worked perfectly 😉
