I didn't comment in my previous post because I honestly had too much to say about this. We finally picked our absolute dream home, and I was set on this specific one and wouldn't settle for anything else. The construction was funded by Hypo in Klagenfurt, so we headed down to the Hypo branch in Los Angeles to deal with the mortgage program they have signed with the developer, which is still ongoing. It took four months just to get the loan finalized—partly due to the incompetence at the local Hypo office and partly because of the folks back in Austria. When you walk into a bank that has an active housing partnership with a builder, you expect all the building documentation to be in order. You don't expect them to fix everything on the fly. You expect them to actually put in the effort rather than having paperwork sit untouched by the legal department for fifteen days. Imagine discovering a mistake in the purpose letter just a few days before the payout, only for everything to grind to a halt and start all over again. Everyone missed it.
A word of advice to everyone: stay far away from them! This bank is an absolute disaster, staffed by people who seem completely indifferent and totally untrained. We are currently trying to finalize a mortgage through Hypo, purely because we wanted a specific apartment being built with financing from Hypo. Right now, they are running some sort of special housing credit promotion. The process has been dragging on for four months already. There is no end to the mistakes being made by Hypo. My creditworthiness was approved over three and a half months ago. If anyone wants more details, feel free to send me a private message.

I was actually thinking about heading out toward the suburbs to check out that Chocolate cake place—supposedly they're just as good, right? ??????
Any chance you remember what the price per pound is over at Monica?
Thanks! 🙂
I haven't tried her cakes personally, nor have I asked about pricing. I assume it's around $27/lb, based on what the girls are saying. 🙂

I was just trying to figure out roughly how many cookies I'd need for 150 people and what the going rate is for decent cookies???!!!🤷
I ordered some incredible pastries at $27/lb, which included the plating service. I am hosting 10 people at a round table and will set out two platters per table with about 1.7 pounds of sweets each. This brings my estimate to roughly 0.35 pounds per person. I intend to serve the guests directly, and I also plan to package 0.4 pounds of treats into small, clear heart-shaped containers. I hope this helps!
If there are leftovers at the hotel, I'll just take them home to share with my neighbors, and my colleagues and I will bring some into the office too!

thanks
Here is the freshest treat I picked up from Monica this past Saturday. That cake above—the 9-inch cutting cake—was $43. And the cupcakes are $3.25 each! They are delicious, believe me; I am incredibly picky. Even the highly acclaimed Sugarman didn't impress me! As for the larger cakes, I have already made arrangements elsewhere.

Honestly, I feel like I should've asked Monica for a kickback for basically running an ad campaign for those cupcakes😉😁
Regarding that cutting cake mentioned above, was the diameter 9 inches or even larger? How many slices did you manage to get out of it? Monica told me eight, but I suspect ten is possible. Am I mistaken?

So, is this the same place that was making those little pastries for $9.50 $3.25 each? Or am I mistaken?
Yes, I am going to get those. I basically copied Donna Chase12! My only difference is that mine will have hearts for decoration. I went with chocolate-vanilla because everyone loves that combination. $3.25 per piece, and that cake above is $43! Monica is such a sweetheart 🙂
But the chocolate orange is absolutely incredible!!

Honey, I already told her that the advertisement you made on the forum was excellent. She knows how to show appreciation.🙂
She really ought to reward you with at least a cake; if I were in her shoes, I would!

I mean for things like cupcakes, standard cakes, or pastries?
Check your inbox, I sent you a PM.🙂
Hey ladies, I’ve finally finished sorting out the cake! The search ended at Monica’s bakery in Newport. I went ahead and ordered the cupcakes 🙂

not that those places were ever really on my radar anyway.
Maybe I’m just being picky, but I’ve officially blacklisted every single bakery I’ve ever visited where the food just didn't hit right. Even if it was just once.
Those cheap supermarket pastries can taste straight-up greasy. Sometimes they’re alright... but honestly, I’m not about to take that risk.
I completely agree with Emma!
Daniel Smith8 said:Ellen, have you swung by M&M's yet? Dying to hear if it lived up to the hype..
We haven't gone yet, but we are definitely stopping by this week. I will let you know my impressions immediately!
Daniel Smith8 said:That’s a shame. Don't sweat it though; you'll stumble upon something better eventually.
A bag of M&M's should lift your spirits with that chocolate goodness, and honestly, grab some cheesecake or a walnut tart too—sugar cures just about everything. 😉
Thanks for the suggestion! I will definitely check that place out, and I'll stop by Monica's too!
Daniel Smith8 said:Ugh, if I were you, I wouldn't touch Sugarland. If I sample a cake and hate it, then they mess up the order on my big day? I'd die of pure frustration knowing I chose them.
That’s exactly why I’m moving on to other options. My partner and I walked away yesterday feeling incredibly disappointed... 😢
Ladies, I’ve officially decided on a four-chocolate wedding cake from Sugarland. However, I stopped by for some treats yesterday, and what she served was honestly terrible. Now I am feeling incredibly conflicted. Usually, their quality is excellent, but what if I end up with a batch this bad on my actual wedding day?
I think I’ll head over to M&M's just to try their options, just to be safe.
boldbison32 said:Are you thinking of "four colors of chocolate"? 🙂Sugar Land is right in my neighborhood, so I've tasted pretty much everything they make, and I actually had their pastries at my wedding. They’re definitely on the pricier side, but oh man, they are delicious... worth considering ☕
Exactly there! It really is delicious. And honestly, I am thinking it is only a few extra bucks!
Hey everyone, I stopped by Sugar Land yesterday and tried their chocolate cake—it was absolutely divine! Honestly, I’d want it served at my wedding, but a single slice is only $5.00! I'm torn, though; I feel like I've already overindulged in too many things lately, and the expenses are just starting to pile up 🙂))
I just called them back specifically to ask for the owner. To be clear, the price was $30/lb on the trays, which totaled over 33 lbs of pastries. I mentioned to her that when I was actually there, I spoke with her employee who quoted me $33/lb for the pastries—and then she even charged me for the samples. The lady apologized, and now she’s waiting for me to pick up my 1 lb of free samples. However, I have no intention of ever going back. She really needs to train her staff properly. This is about Emma
I have begun testing cake options for the wedding. My shortlist currently includes about ten different bakeries. The first was Emma's shop in Smalltown, USA, where the sweets cost $33 per pound. These cakes are loaded with margarine, which is completely unacceptable to me...
