silverwolf88 said:I’m just hoping this is actually a country governed by laws. They’re trying to intimidate me by bringing up some connections to local coffee shop owners, so I’ve decided to shorten my work just to get it out there for review across multiple platforms. If they have influence over a few specific scientists, fine, but they can't control everyone.
I have no idea what this council is supposed to be, but it reminds me of the journalistic mindset at BuzzFeed, where they gave me just as much grief over the mobsters. It feels like something is seriously off with this council—they're discriminating and violating human rights. They won't even acknowledge my creative work as actual professional output; instead, they're trying to pass it off as some kind of disability claim. . Now, I'm just waiting to hear back from the IRS on how a freelance artist is supposed to handle taxes on song sales through online platforms.

So, BuzzFeed writers gave you trouble over the mobsters?😲
Funny how they pretend to be this big progressive outlet promoting liberal values, yet here they are picking on men in leggings. Good on you for exposing them, though.

bluecyclist64, I’m standing by you as a friend and a fellow leftist, even if we don't always see eye to eye. Things always seem to work out in your favor anyway, so I don't see why they shouldn't continue to do so in the future.

It’s an interesting watch, though not exactly terrifying to me. I actually found myself laughing at a few parts.
The first one is still my favorite.
nimbleranger52 said:We can all sit here and make jokes about how they're tiny, acting like size is the only thing that matters in a country. But seriously, just look at Monaco or Liechtenstein.

The people there are loaded. Honestly, most folks are probably thrilled to be living in these little microstates.
Sure, Monaco is basically the definition of glamour—it’s easily the place with the highest concentration of millionaires on the planet.
But then you take a look at Liechtenstein... talk about a transformation, going from some isolated mountain backwater to one of the wealthiest nations in the entire world.

They’re actually quite decent, too. I find their sense of order absolutely fascinating. The Prince has all this authority because the citizens actually voted for it during a referendum.
He’s essentially the reason they’ve become so prosperous...

You really just have to go see it for yourself. I’ve been to Liechtenstein three times now, and every single time I come back completely spellbound by its beauty. Monaco is just as stunning. San Marino was incredible, too... I still need to make it over to Andorra eventually.

I'm just kidding. It doesn't really cross my mind to mock anyone who's clearly miles ahead of where I'm from.
Robin Sanders75 said:If we were to introduce democracy there, wouldn't it immediately 😁

🤣🤣🙏
These tiny little nations are all incredibly wealthy.
The cynics would probably claim it’s all thanks to their coins and stamps.

driftingtinker said:So, did Charles Michel finally snap out of it? Like, is he actually getting some decent sleep now?

Now he’s rambling on about fighting for gender equality. He certainly gave us a masterclass in how that actually works in practice. He could have done just about anything, yet he chose to do absolutely nothing except sit down as quickly as possible.

Jesse Cook4 said:According to Wikipedia, it also says:

"He further mentioned that a possible cause of the distressing situation was that Turkey had strictly adhered to the diplomatic protocol[1][12] which rates the head of the EU council above the head of the EU commission.[10][13]"

The Turks are saying the exact same thing.

They should have just provided identical chairs. When you don't have matching seating, protocol dictates who sits where.

Meanwhile, von der Leyen claims the chair situation wasn't the issue since there were plenty of identical ones available. They just didn't arrange them correctly to humiliate her.

Jesse Cook4 said:That's exactly my point. If she had sat next to Erogan while Charles Michel took the sofa, would everyone suddenly be fine with it?

From what I can gather, European Union protocol dictates that Charles Michel outranks her. Those poorly placed chairs just made the hierarchy way too obvious. Sitting any other way would have looked even stupider.

It honestly feels like she's just offended because, as a woman, she didn't get a "pass"—not because of the actual protocols.

Here: https://www.politico.eu/article/sofa...-i-am-a-woman/

She claims it wasn't about protocol. Michael seems to agree, otherwise he wouldn't have gone public about the whole mess.

Jesse Cook4 said:Is it just me, or if there had been two men, would the Commission President have ended up on the sofa while the Council President took the armchair? Their own protocol ranks them unequally anyway, so there wouldn't have been an "incident."

Maybe you feel that way because von der Leyen herself basically called them out during her address to the European Union Parliament on Monday. She pointed out that this happened specifically because she’s a woman and gave them a pretty thorough dressing down. She noted there's no excuse for it, even asking, "Would this have happened if I were wearing a suit and tie?"
She made it clear it wasn't about a shortage of chairs or some protocol error.
By the way, the perfect term for this whole mess is "Sofagate."

Even the Italian Prime Minister took offense, going as far as calling Erdogan a dictator.
"Regarding that matter, let's just call them what they actually are—dictators."
The Turks aren't exactly saints, and honestly, the Italian PM is just playing the populist card. 🤣

Emily Fox2 said:Plus, the European Union actually gave Turkey more money than last time.
On the other hand, according to The New York Times, there was talk at the meeting about extending the agreement between the European Union and Turkey regarding the migrant crisis.

During a three-hour meeting, they allegedly agreed to extend the five-year-old deal where Turkey agrees to stop the flow of migrants into the European Union, for which they originally received six billion euros. Per The New York Times, the amount has been increased this time.

It's obvious we rely on Turkey more than we realize. Erdogan is being a bit brazen, but he's using it brilliantly to show the European Union exactly where they stand. It matters to his people back home. He doesn't care if anyone outside of Turkey criticizes him.

He’s basically blackmailing the European Union.
Either pay up or I'll let the refugees through. It's a pretty simple ultimatum.

Jacob Price95 said:It’s truly awkward how Charles Michel is getting far too close to the inner circle of the Biden administration🤣

The real embarrassment is going to be the absolute firestorm he's facing now because he stayed silent.
He should have just sat on the bed next to Ursula and let that useless guy rot in his chair alone.

Watched it yesterday; it's definitely in the same league as Misery. It’s probably better to avoid reading any reviews beforehand just to stay clear of potential spoilers.
If Sarah Paulson isn't giving me more chills than Kathy Bates, then I don't know what is.

+1.
Sarah is an empress.
If you’re still stuck in a horror movie phase, have you checked out *The Dark and the Wicked* yet?
It’s not quite as incredible as everyone makes it out to be, but it isn't half bad either.

I’m definitely a fan of that whole saga involving Josip Broz Tito and Sophia. 🙂

I see you haven't received the latest transmission from the Galactic Federation.
A massive revelation was scheduled for December 21st, but during the briefing, a faction of the Galactic Federation representatives expressed doubts regarding Donald Trump. They believe he isn't the expected messiah, but rather a false prophet, so the entire event has been scrapped.
The arrests of high-profile figures within the Democratic Party are still proceeding according to schedule; they are currently being held in underground military bases managed by the US military and the Galactic Federation. They’ll remain there until Donald Trump's inauguration, at which point the Galactic Federation will reveal itself to the world and unveil its plans for global communism.
Assuming, of course, that everything goes according to plan...

Linda King said:...hopefully there's room for a few more of us. 😁 I'm introducing myself and a colleague from Politics... we're pretty chill people, you won't even notice us. Politically, we're centrists, skeptics regarding vaccines and the whole virus situation, and we still believe the Earth is round (though I'll let my colleague declare his own stance, since I might be overstepping).

As for Nicholas Watson, I know him from the Politics chat and from that thread about Donald Trump where he fought to the bitter end, remaining the last man standing after everyone else on his team had already conceded and left the discussion. 🙂

Even though we were on opposite sides over there, that kind of tenacity really impressed us and inspired us to track him down here on unknown. (And honestly, I can't post on Politics nearly as much as I used to 🙂).

A lovely little announcement. 🙂
I'm not ruling out the possibility of a flat Earth, so I won't get defensive. ☕
