Well, there's nothing left to do but face the music—I'm heading off to pay the fine now. I can't help but feel a bit of regret, thinking back to how much easier this would have been if I had just handled it two and a half years ago! Thanks for getting back to me.

The Municipal Court in Washington, D.C.

The court in Chicago sent the decision over to my local county police station—and from what I can gather by looking at the envelope, they forwarded it to me through the police department. To make matters even stranger, I noticed that the payment slips were filled out in ballpoint pen???

To give you some context, back on April 2, 2006, I was pulled over for driving 12 miles/h over the speed limit. I filed an appeal at the time, but after hearing absolutely nothing for ages, I assumed it had just vanished into thin air. Well, apparently not—after two and a half years of silence, the final decision finally arrived 😠
The ruling states that my appeal was denied and that I am required to pay a fine of $203, though they will be clearing the single point on my driver's license that I incurred back then. According to the paperwork, the court reached its decision on February 5, 2008—yet somehow, this notification only made its way to my mailbox today, September 13, 2008!!! It feels incredibly inefficient. Is there any legal avenue left to contest this or avoid the payment given the massive delay? Does anyone know what my options are in a situation like this? Thanks!
I just noticed something else—nowhere in this decision does it state a deadline for when the payment is due, nor does it mention my right to appeal. Does that lack of information carry any weight in a situation like this?
