I was thinking about this today while watching some old sports clips. We always talk about "grind" and "talent" like they are the only two things that matter. We love the narrative of the underdog who works harder than everyone else and finally breaks through, but I can't help but feel like there's a massive element of timing and being in the right place at the right time that people just don't want to admit.

If you're a kid with massive potential, but you end up in a system that doesn't see you, or you get injured right before a big scout shows up, does all that hard work even matter? It feels like there's this invisible "luck" factor that acts as a gatekeeper. You can be the most disciplined person on the planet, but if the stars don't align to put you in a position to actually be seen, you're just spinning your wheels.

It’s a bit cynical, I know, but it makes me wonder how much of our success is actually earned versus just being a beneficiary of a lucky break. Do you think it's possible to be truly self-made, or is everyone just riding a wave of circumstances they didn't control?
Do people still call FOX "Channel 3"? in Miscellaneous ·

I’ve honestly never referred to it as PBS before either🤷

The only time I ever bother is when I'm feeling way too lazy to move from my bed—but I'm dying to catch something on FOX—so I'll just yell at my little brother and tell him to flip it over to channel 3 😳

I don't really boss people around that much, I'm just incredibly lazy, let's be real☕

Jamie Robinson4 said:I honestly don't see why it wouldn't work—I used one back when I was still a total novice (doing sports at the time) and it went in just fine... and I’m definitely not "wide." She's probably just scared and won't push it because she feels like it isn't sliding in smoothly... I mean, who knows, that's just my guess 🙂 my friend tried pushing hers in and was totally baffled why it wouldn't go .. 🤣

😂😂
Yeah, that's exactly what I told her—that she needs to give it a bit more of a firm push and that feeling some pain is totally normal, but she keeps complaining about this "resistance" or whatever... honestly, screw it.
She can just keep living life with pads on until she finally gets it together.

So, my friend (she's 18) is having a total nightmare trying to use a tampon.
I’ve been telling her forever how much easier and more practical they are compared to pads—seriously, life-changing stuff. Last month she finally took my advice and grabbed the smallest ones available, but she just can't get it in. It's like... impossible.
I'm not sure if this is even relevant, but she's never actually had sex, so maybe she's just freaking out or subconsciously tense? Or who knows...
Now I'm wondering—is there some other reason why it would be this difficult, or is it strictly because she's "inexperienced"?
