Fair point, I phrased that poorly. Anyone who didn't get them to the hospital immediately is just as responsible. As for the pediatrician, I don't get why they didn't establish an IV line, start fluids, and prescribe specific protocols for the transport.
She probably panicked, thinking they'd make it to the ER in time.
Whether the IV and oxygen would have actually saved him is debatable, but she should have finished the job properly regardless.

Regarding the July defense, they even put a question mark at the end of the headline. 🕺
I’m just saying, there are way too many clickbait articles out there that have absolutely nothing to do with their titles once you actually read them.
The article says she's "most to blame," but it doesn't say she's the *only* one responsible, nor does it explain why ER doctors are being thrown under the bus.
Sepsis can spiral incredibly fast, and by the time the clinical picture becomes clear, it's often too late. Being a doctor is a thankless job; in the US, doctors are frequently forced to diagnose based on nothing but a stethoscope and what they see right in front of them because half the diagnostic tools they need aren't available.

It turns out the child was transported to the hospital without receiving basic life support, like IV fluids or oxygen, during transit.

I feel terrible for the kid. Honestly, I think every doctor who treated him shares some level of blame, mostly because they're working without any diagnostic data while staring down a child with a persistent, stubborn fever that won't break. Even if the lung exam looked okay, they should have demanded full hospital testing immediately.
