So I shut down HA and just let a show run on HBO. Managed to get through a couple of episodes without any restarts. Usually, it's impossible to watch even one single thing. Seems fine for now. We'll see if it actually stays this way.

Haha... I don't really game. Just basic web surfing, YouTube, and Max since I can't get it on my TV. I'll try toggling off hardware acceleration and see if that fixes things. If not, oh well. It might just be a driver issue—whenever I do a clean install of Windows, everything runs fine for a bit. Then eventually it grabs some updates and starts acting crazy. Either way, thanks.
Hey there. I'm running Windows 10. Dealing with this annoying issue where my PC just resets whenever I'm watching stuff on Max or Netflix. No Blue Screen of Death, no error messages, nothing. The screen just goes black, I hear this weird buzzing sound from the speakers for a few seconds, and then the whole system just reboots itself. My parts aren't exactly brand new, but honestly, the rig feels snappy and works great otherwise—except for this one headache. Anyone have a clue what's going on? Thanks! Here's the specs:
- Intel Core i5 processor - ASRock motherboard - 8GB HyperX RAM - 256GB GIGABYTE SSD - Nvidia GeForce GTX 2GB - 500W power supply, not sure which brand
Hey everyone. I'm looking to drop an SSD into my Dell Inspiron. From what I can tell, the old HDD uses SATA. Modern SSDs are SATA 3, so I'm wondering if the connector is the same and if this junker will actually run okay with a new drive. I found a cheap SanDisk 128 option for about $60 and the reviews look solid. Anyone got a better suggestion? Thanks for the help. Honestly, I can barely keep up with how fast tech moves these days 😵 My 70-year-old dad uses this laptop for browsing, banking, and checking classifieds, so he doesn't really need massive storage unless a 256GB version is basically the same price.
Man, I was getting totally screwed during the boot process without an OS, and even when I was installing Windows, it hung right at that part where it’s supposed to restart. Then, once Windows was finally installed, it kept acting up during boot too. I ended up using DriverBooster, and it grabbed some random Intel bus driver or whatever—but honestly, once that was installed, everything just clicked and started working perfectly. As a total amateur, I have zero clue what the actual root cause was, but hey, it works now. That's all that matters. Thanks everyone for the help.
I tried resetting everything back to factory settings, but honestly, nothing happened. Then I just ran CCleaner to grab all the updates it could find, and boom—everything’s running smooth as silk now.
@placidtinker39 Just finished putting macOS on a fresh drive. It’ll boot up even without an OS installed, and honestly, it acts exactly the same whether there's an OS there or not.
@Kenneth Cruz67 How do I go about checking the battery? I can just swap in a new one if I have to.
My PC was running hot for a long time because of overheating issues. I finally noticed it since my son uses it, so I blew out all the dust. Temperatures went back to normal, but then the thing started shutting itself down constantly. So today, I did a full overhaul—new thermal paste, deep clean, and I swapped in a new SSD since the old one went into a different rig. Now I’m stuck with boot problems. When I hit the power button, it kicks on for a second, dies, then tries again a few seconds later, but it won't always boot—sometimes there's just no signal. When I actually get a picture, I keep getting those messages saying the computer couldn't boot several times in a row and that I need to fix the BIOS settings. I'm guessing the overheating might have fried something... maybe the motherboard or the CPU. Anyone got any advice on what I should do? Thanks, guys.
Building a PC for my son right now. We picked up an ASUS Prime B450M-A and an Intel Core i5-8400. What’s the smartest move for RAM that won't break the bank? Looking for a total best buy here. Thinking maybe 2x8GB 3000MHz. Thanks for the help.
