Here is my report. It’s really just everything I managed to get done so far.

I have been wrestling with all these cables, and honestly, it's the same old story.

I went ahead and downloaded HDsentinel, hoping that the 30-day trial would be enough to help me track down whatever is going on here.

But now... well, things have gotten a bit silly. During the installation, the software insisted it was going to create a shortcut icon, but of course, nothing happened. Every time I try to launch it again, it acts up, and I feel like I have to reinstall the whole thing just to make it show up—searching through CP shows the Hard Disk Sentinel Tray icon, but the actual program refuses to open. I grabbed the download from here.

Anyway, once I finally got it running, it showed me this—basically, at the top, it lists the Seagate as disk #2, but there isn't any sign of the Elements drive. However, in the bottom section, all four drives are showing up. I tried disabling the Seagate so that only the Elements would appear, and HDsentinel claims the health status is perfect. I also attempted a Short self-test—though I'm not entirely sure what else that's supposed to accomplish or if it's even fully functional in the trial version, and frankly, I wouldn't know what to look for other than seeing the test finish. 🙄

If the external drive itself is fine and the cable isn't the culprit, I suppose my next move is to try plugging it into a different USB port—if that's even the right way to say it?

It actually just occurred to me while I was typing up my reply, though by then I had already started moving everything over to the Seagate, so I figured I’d just let it slide until tomorrow. For now, I think I'll just head out and relax by the lake for a bit. 😉

I honestly haven't a clue. It just keeps growing and growing! When I first picked up my laptop, one terabyte felt like a massive empty ballroom where I could barely fit a few files from my old computer, but now it feels completely packed to the rafters. There are probably some duplicates in there, most likely, but nothing too crazy—it's just that I can never seem to find the spare moment to sit down and comb through it all, even with software to help. 🙄

Everyone kept insisting that an external drive was the safer bet, and in my case, they were absolutely right—I have a knack for losing USB sticks almost as soon as I set them down.

Hmm... From what I can tell, both the Seagate expansion and the WD Elements seem to have the exact same thickness. I think I'll reach out to Best Buy to see if they can clarify which one is actually slimmer, but looking ahead, does anyone have a particular external drive they swear by?

I don't actually store them away at all; instead, I keep both drives constantly plugged in, tucked neatly under my iKe laptop stand where I make sure the cables aren't bent too much. I was actually hoping to move a massive chunk of a translation project onto an external drive tonight, and while the Elements drive showed up perfectly fine in File Explorer at first, it just vanished right in the middle of the transfer. Does anyone know if I can just buy a replacement cable on my own?

So, here is the situation: I am currently working with two external drives—one is a 1 TB model, and the other is twice that size. The first one is a Seagate expansion, while the second is a WD Elements. I usually split my important files between them, though lately, since I’ve started downloading a lot of movies, I have been leaning much more heavily on the Elements drive. Most of my actual storage space is taken up by documents and photos.

Well, here is the kicker! This evening, the Elements drive started acting incredibly glitchy; it keeps flickering in and out of visibility on my computer. To make things easier for tonight, I cleared some space on the Seagate, and my plan is to move everything from my internal drive onto it. My laptop is about three years old now, running Windows 10 with a 1 TB drive and an SSD for all my programs, and I really need to upgrade soon because my data collection just keeps growing and growing.

That brings me to my two questions. First off, does anyone know what might be causing this issue with the Elements drive? Is it possible that it's just a faulty cable, or could the drive itself be on its way out? Second, I won't have any free time tomorrow or the day after, but I am planning to head out this Wednesday to pick up a third external drive. I definitely want to play it safe this time, so I am looking for recommendations for something significantly larger than what I currently own.

On this particular forum, if you're looking to play around with the text formatting, using "size=1" will give you the absolute smallest font available. For those who prefer the standard, everyday look, just stick with "size=2," while anything from size 3 all the way up to 6 will gradually scale the text up to a much larger, more prominent size.

My primary care physician handed me a specialist referral—let me try to transcribe this accurately: ultrasound of both wrists with a specific focus on the ulnar region tendons. Even though the specialists at Trauma insisted that getting it done there would be the most efficient route, the earliest appointment they could offer isn't until next February. Meanwhile, I have an opening at Rebro about a month before that, and I’m still just waiting in silence for a response from Holy Spirit.

At this point, it feels like the only sensible move is to pay out of pocket for a private clinic, especially since I don't think I can manage without moving my hand properly until the new year. If anyone has any recommendations for good private spots in Washington, D.C., please let me know.🙂

I think we had a little misunderstanding. The dog food supplier I had in mind has a Facebook page, but it functions mostly as an advertisement: you order and get in touch via phone. So, you aren't actually buying things through Facebook; rather, it's just a place to find a phone number or send a quick message. They don't have a dedicated website, just like that incredibly wonderful local pet shop doesn't have one either, and it leads to the same dilemma: the rules don't specify whether we should provide a direct link to a Facebook page or simply write, "this specific item is sold by this person, just look them up on Facebook." As it stands, with the current vague wording, both seem like equal violations.

In my view, there is a significant difference between linking to a full website where you can browse a catalog and compare prices—"as is often the case with links to various pet food brands and supplies"—and simply posting an ad that exists solely on Facebook.

To be perfectly honest, it also drives me absolutely crazy when people post panic-inducing links to Facebook with captions like "poison found!" followed by three exclamation points and a link; it wouldn't be such a bother to search for actual relevant information or at least retype the core details you read on Facebook.

It would just be lovely if you could refine the wording of the rule a little bit to make it more precise. 🙂

A discussion recently popped up over on Reddit regarding thyroid issues in dogs: link. I can't recall the exact wording of the title, but it didn't specifically address hypothyroidism like the current situation does.

Now, I am certainly no veterinarian, but through a series of fortunate coincidences, I've found myself quite interested in this topic lately, so I know that hypothyroidism—where the thyroid is underactive—isn't the only way things can go wrong; even if it's rare, you can actually see the opposite case, hyperthyroidism, where the gland becomes overactive.

I actually used my "former moderator privileges" to politely suggest to the Reddit mods that they might want to revert to the previous title or perhaps choose one that fits a bit better. When asked why I felt the current title was off, I replied—quoting my own words here—that the heading completely overlooks hyperthyroidism as a possibility, even though hyperthyroidism is mentioned twice within the thread itself. At the same time, I suggested that if it's deemed necessary from a technical standpoint, the opening post should explain how thyroid disorders work in dogs, but since my suggestion and explanation were met with a rather "polite" silence, I figured I would bring it up here.

To put it simply, I feel the title of that thread isn't quite right because:

• hypothyroidism isn't the only thyroid disorder that affects dogs
• it lacks transparency—anyone who actually understands what hypothyroidism is won't find the thread useful, as their dog is likely already being treated for it
• hyperthyroidism is mentioned in the discussion, making the title somewhat incomplete
• in the hope that I'm not totally off base, Reddit tries to provide its users with quality information alongside the entertainment, so we shouldn't deny them that or force them to Google half of the page.

So, I'm kindly asking the moderators to consult with one another and adjust the title accordingly. 🙂

P.S. For anyone looking to dive deeper, this is a wonderful book that sheds such great light on approaching thyroid issues in dogs, focusing not just on treatment, but primarily on the danger of overlooking the medical side of things; unfortunately, it happens quite often that a dog’s behavior changes and owners write it off as disobedience or aggression, when in reality, there's a medical issue driving it all along.

As for what actually gets reported on the PŽK, I suppose those who moderate this subforum should probably be the ones to clarify that. In fact, if we're strictly following the name of this subforum, nothing should really be reported here at all; people should just be venting. Well, you can just consider that I was venting about some moderator errors.
