Huge congrats to Valtteri Bottas on signing that new contract. 🤣

It’s pretty clear they aren't even close to being title contenders anymore, despite having what looks like the faster car on paper.
I wouldn't say they have the edge anymore. Mercedes-Benz has clearly pulled ahead thanks to all those upgrades they've rolled out over the last two or three races.
This looks grim for Max and his title defense.
Lewis really gave him a run for his money at the Circuit of Cotes.
Honestly, I think Red Bull Racing made a huge mistake by running that compromised engine this weekend. They should have just swapped it out immediately.

He really needs a bold move here. If he ends up stuck behind three cars on soft tires after the opening lap, his chances of getting past Bottas are slim—and honestly, I'm not even factoring Hamilton into the equation at that point.
If we set aside any potential mechanical failures or crashes, Max's only realistic shot at winning is if he manages to pull ahead right after the first lap.
Having those soft tires won't actually help him much, since Mercedes has the superior top speed and their straights are just too long for DRS to make a meaningful difference.
So, I don't know—honestly, Max is going to have to get aggressive tomorrow, and I’m genuinely worried we might just see another collision.

Max claims it's because drivers on soft tires would be a threat to them. 😁
Is that really the excuse the pit wall cooked up for the public? 😁
If they had just gone out for a single run on mediums, they would have cruised right into Q3. Honestly, they probably could have even improved that time on the second lap with the medium compound.
This is typical of a Red Bull Racing strategist who starts panicking and ignores their own strengths, opting instead for tactical moves that basically amount to self-sabotage. They spent way too much time waiting in the pits while Mercedes just sat back and watched the chaos unfold.

What was actually stopping Max Verstappen from overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the track? Let's ignore the pit lane—that's just a quick 500-meter stretch, it doesn't change the core issue.
wiredseal7 said:That exit off the track... I don't see how they didn't penalize him, especially since he was over a second slower on his "fast" lap just to mess with Max's aero.
Someone needs to give him a serious reality check and settle the score.
What exactly stopped Max from just blowing past him during the outlap?
Good grief, those Red Bull Racing pit stops were an absolute mess today.
Max spending the entire lap just trailing behind Lewis was honestly ridiculous.

It barely edged out Imola.
I honestly lost interest in the race once Max crashed; I just didn't know what to root for anymore.

I’m genuinely interested, but I have to admit I’m feeling a bit 😁 frustrated. I’m reposting this in the hope that someone who actually connects with what's written below might show up.
Hey, I'm based in NYC, in my early 30s, and currently in a relationship. My job is decent, and while my free time varies, I’m looking to meet someone new to fill those gaps in the week. I won't ramble too much about myself, but here’s the gist: I enjoy good company, deep conversations, sports, catching a stream or a movie, great food, walking, cycling, and music. I stay informed on global affairs, so it’s perfectly fine if we don't see eye-to-eye on socio-political issues—we can just chat about it. In fact, feel free to send over a link to a good article; I’m always open to reading. I value opinions, reasoned criticism, emotion, and empathy. Don't be shy about showing who you are. I’m not one for drama; I prefer simplicity. I believe companionship should be easygoing without all the unnecessary overthinking, where people just "get" each other. Bye!

gentlemoose57 said:Oh, please. Maybe he moved left before the corner because that sivonja squeezed him right against the wall about half a kilometer earlier?
Hamilton's front wing was ahead of Max's front wheel, and he was swerving hard to the right. So, it wasn't contact on half the car, and it wasn't on the rear wheel. It was in front. The front wheel.
Honestly, you're losing the plot here. First, Max leaves an opening, then when Lewis moves into that space—because Max nearly shoved him into the wall—suddenly it's Lewis's fault for "moving left."
Try to maintain a consistent argument for at least one post...
The stewards have Hamilton to blame. Mostly. He isn't the only one at fault.
If Max hadn't tried to close the door, they wouldn't have collided. If Max hadn't squeezed him like that before the turn, they wouldn't have collided.
You just need to look at Leclerc and Hamilton.
As for Max, someone finally showed him how it's done after those few excursions earlier this season. I just wish someone had done it a few years ago.
By the way, I didn't make the split-screen comparison. But Leclerc never once squeezed Hamilton against the wall. Max did. How far they are from the corner isn't really the point.
The issue with that specific corner is that if you dive in on the inside, as soon as the driver next to you gives you room, they effectively surrender the position. They lose their racing line and their momentum. You saw how Leclerc lost control of his car and drifted wide when he gave up the better line; at those speeds, it's just too much to manage. Once you drift off that ideal line at that velocity, the car understeers and you lose all your speed. Verstappen would have lost his line and drifted wide too, so why wouldn't he?
Why would Verstappen put himself at a disadvantage just for an overtake that isn't even a 50/50 call? Verstappen is stubborn, sure, but that's his corner, and he has every right to hold his line.
Hamilton is clever. In a situation where it's someone else's corner, he puts you in a spot where the moment you give him even a sliver of space, you lose ground because the corner is no longer yours. He forces you to turn his loss of position into a gain.
And that move by Hamilton—overtaking in the exact same corner where he forced Verstappen out, only to have DRS a moment later to likely pass Leclerc—that's a massive ego trip. That wasn't an accident; it was a calculated move to make a statement. What an idiot.

Sam Clark75 said:It’s honestly fascinating how much Max's fanbase has abandoned logic. According to them, Max is the greatest driver to ever live, but he just hasn't had any luck because he hasn't been in a top-tier car—unlike Louis, who won titles because he was always in the best machinery. If Max wins this season, his fans will claim he's the exact same driver as last year, just in a significantly faster car. I don't think those fanboys could handle the mental loop of admitting it's about the car rather than Max being the absolute best. 🙏
Of course it’s about the car. Of course it's about the driver. And of course it's about the team. That's how it works for every champion in history—everything has to align perfectly at the right moment. If Max takes it this year (and personally, I hope he does, because watching the same predictable processions and massive point gaps every race is getting tedious), it won't be because he's some mythical driving god. It'll be because everything finally clicked for him this season.
This level of idolatry is ridiculous. People seem to have completely forgotten all of Max's reckless collisions, or how Red Bull favors him so heavily over anyone else who has ever stepped foot in that garage. To put it in perspective, even a "number two" driver like Bottas gets more royal treatment in Mercedes than Ricciardo or Gasly ever received at Red Bull. Then there's Max's selfish style on track, especially during qualifying, where he expects everyone to move out of his way, yet he refuses to yield to anyone.
Max acted like the entire grid had already conceded that he'd be champion this year, so everyone should just get out of his way. Now he's complaining because people actually showed him some teeth. And Horner’s theatrical performance about being in the hospital (for a routine checkup, mind you) is just pathetic.
Give me a break. He's the only one who could even give Lewis a run for his money, and that was in a car that wasn't even close to a title contender outside of a few specific tracks.
Besides, if Lewis were truly the GOAT people claim he is, he would have chased down Max regardless. Max actually has a smaller advantage this year than Lewis had last year, or even in their previous matchups.
What a legendary GOAT. In his first season fighting against a more complete car, he's basically relying on other people's bad luck. If Max hadn't had that tire failure in Las Vegas and they hadn't had contact yesterday, the championship would already be decided.
He is the GOAT; he's showing us what that means now that he's dealing with a slightly weaker car.

This situation hits differently than your typical racing incident. Both drivers really should have been more careful here. When you're hitting 250+ mph through a corner, even the slightest touch is enough to lose control completely.

Christian Horner is incredibly sharp; he can spin any narrative to suit his needs, and honestly, keeping up with his mental gymnastics is exhausting.
Toto Wolff plays the same games, but at least he keeps his cool when he’s whining.

Walter Anderson43 said:It feels a bit hypocritical for Max, who’s just as much known as Crashstappen, to be asking for apologies after he spent so much time acting all remorseful about his own moves.🤣
thank God everything is okay. To me, the collision was just a standard racing incident. It’s what everyone else is saying—both drivers were just going for it, all or nothing.
It was a racing incident, but I think Lewis carries more of the blame here.
Lewis didn't really have a clean line; he was essentially banking on how much Max would give him.
Max gave him a little bit of room, maybe even could have given more, but if he had, he would have lost too much speed through the corner and lost the position entirely.
Watching Lewis celebrate like that after the race felt pretty pathetic. What an idiot.

Max should have let Lewis through, but this just wasn't supposed to happen. Lewis was clearly looking to make his move right after the turn.
This is a massive blow for Red Bull Racing; losing an engine like this could really sting later in the season.
I’ll be surprised if Max can stay at the top during the Canada race. Just like that, everything he’s built up over the last two races seems to be going down the drain, leaving him scrambling for points—which is never easy. Mercedes tends to be most dangerous when they have that kind of momentum.
Forti mentioned that Baku is where championships are won or lost, and honestly, I think he's right because the fallout from this could last a long time. Honda and Red Bull Racing have handled their engine management incredibly well so far, and I'm sure they were feeling pretty confident. Now, the whole dynamic has shifted.

Jason Campbell70 said:Being overly aggressive doesn't exactly play nice with winning championships.
It’s funny how Hamilton put it after a similar clash with Leclerc at Daytona 2019...
"If I wasn't thinking about the championship, I wouldn't have moved, and we would have collided."
But Verstappen just goes for it regardless. He’s gotten away with it for a while now because more tactical drivers tend to give him space.
Hamilton backed off at Talladega, and they didn't collide.
Hamilton backed off in Spain, and they didn't collide.
Now Hamilton didn't back off, and they collided.
As Americans would say, it's a taste of his own medicine.
There will be more of this.
For the most part, Hamilton has been sitting alone at the top; he hasn't really had anyone to fight.
Even during those years when Vettel and Ford were threats, they usually weren't even close enough to challenge him on track; they were mostly fighting for position elsewhere.
Regarding what happened at Talladega and Spain, Verstappen earned his position with a solid start and restart. If he had given Lewis room in either of those instances, he would have lost the spot both times. When you give someone space, you're essentially handing over the racing line.
Had he yielded in Spain by moving right, he would have handed Lewis the faster line, which completely defeats the purpose of a good start.
If he had yielded at Talladega, he would have given Lewis a better line through the chicane, again making that great restart pointless. Why should he yield in those moments and hand drivers a better line—the exact same lines he claimed first before entering the corner?
It’s the same thing today. Verstappen held the better racing line, and Hamilton didn't have it—because if he did, he wouldn't have lifted off the throttle in the turn. Verstappen didn't yield because he had a path to go full throttle. Why should Verstappen let Hamilton take the optimal racing line and automatically surrender his track position? If Verstappen had gone wide in that corner, he would have lost speed and Hamilton would have overtaken him.

Looking at the pace Mercedes-Benz is showing today, I honestly doubt Max Verstappen would have stayed behind Lewis Hamilton by the end of the race. Max Verstappen’s aggressive style is always a bit of a gamble—you either win big or you lose big. It’s a tough break for the championship, though. There was such a massive opportunity for Max Verstappen to overtake Lewis Hamilton right then and there, and it feels like he might get away with it since it looks like Lewis Hamilton didn't actually lose anything from that penalty.
