I have my doubts about whether things will be 100% ready for the Canadian Grand Prix, which makes winning that race look like a real uphill battle.
Racing incidents happen, but the fault lies more with Lewis.
This shouldn't result in a penalty.

The issue with Lewis is that he braked before the turn, even though it was his corner to take. If that was his corner, he had the better line, which means there's no reason to brake earlier than his competitor.
Even back during his days at McLaren, Fernando Alonso had those moments—those aggressive contacts that definitely should have landed him in the penalty box. He was always a bit of a dirty driver, honestly, but he usually managed to stay out of trouble because his reputation preceded him.
The real question is how much anyone is actually going to risk during these Sprint races. If a driver puts in a qualifying session that’s solid by their own standards, why gamble it all just to potentially end up at the back of the pack? And why should the guys sitting at the very top of the grid take unnecessary chances just to fight for position? It’s all for a measly 3, 2, or 1 point. In my view, the only drivers who are truly going to push the limits in a Sprint are the ones who had a rough qualifying session and see the race as their best shot at clawing back a couple of lost spots.
Jenson Button is trying his best to ask more questions and spark some actual conversation so the track walk doesn't feel like a snooze fest, but let's be honest—you can't really make something boring feel exciting or high-stakes.
What kind of joke is this in the truck 😁?

God, they're acting like children.
As for me, I don't see much point in the sprint races. Honestly, I'd prefer it without them. I just don't see the purpose in repeating this format multiple times throughout the season.
I know we're on the final lap and there's no point in overanalyzing, but Max Verstappen lost about 1.5 seconds right at the end. I really hope it isn't a mechanical issue with the car.
With Bottas driving for Ferrari, he’s got every reason to go after Max Verstappen in those opening laps. Since he didn't make the move when it mattered, we're likely looking at a procession now because he won't dare challenge Lewis Hamilton.
Free practice kicks off at 3:30 PM, and qualifying isn't until 7:00 PM—good grief. I really need to get used to these anti-social hours.

2014 - RB10, best chassis on the grid
2016 - RB12, best chassis on the grid
2018 - RB14, definitely the best chassis on the grid

It feels to me like Newey and his crew basically fix their mistakes every two years. Before 2020, the real issue was clearly a lack of horsepower. The Renault 2016 and 2018 engines were lagging by nearly a full second. No matter how good a chassis you have, you just can't make up a gap like that.

This probably belongs in a different thread, but I don't buy the whole chassis argument. That reputation has stuck around since the Vettel era.

People claim the chassis is superior because Red Bull Racing always performed well in Monaco and Singapore, but a good chassis needs to work on every single track.

Exactly my point. He spins out into the gravel and suddenly everyone is acting like he’s a hero just for managing to get the car back on track.

You’re out here trying to praise Newey, but this is really the first time since the Vettel era that he’s actually managed to put together a winning car from the start of a season.
He only pulled it off because the regulations played right into his hands, meaning he didn't have to overhaul the high rake concept.

Mercedes has the best brain trust in F1—the engine, the chassis, the aero tunnel, the simulator, you name it. They are unrivaled, and honestly, even five Neweys couldn't change that.

b) lol, he was missing a chunk of his front wing.
c) LOL

I don't get why the haters are being such cowards just because the guy managed to pull into 2nd place, while Botko was basically out for a Sunday drive in the exact same car...

I still think Amanda Kelly messed up the registration, though. He did have that bit of front wing missing, but I doubt it played a massive role in his pace. He was losing ground to Max Verstappen, but even without the damage, I don't think he would have actually threatened him.

Sergio Perez really messed up and picked up a penalty for what happened under the Safety Car. He should have checked in with the team over the radio instead of trying to handle things on his own.

Jose Myers87 said:In my opinion, the perfect move would be to bring everyone into the pits and then let them restart based on the actual time gaps that existed right before the stoppage. Anything else just feels unfair.

When we're deep into a race and the field is already spread out, the SC needs to function differently—and the same goes for a red flag. It makes sense when the pack is relatively tight, but once some drivers have built up nearly a two-lap cushion, it feels completely absurd to bunch them all back up together.

Look, if you follow that logic, you could argue against every single SC period. You could say it’s unfair that the field bunches up again, effectively erasing the hard-earned advantages built by a group of drivers.
I don't know. I don't see it as unfair, because there really isn't any other way to handle these situations.

.

If you ask me, that red flag was absolutely necessary. How else were they supposed to clear all that mess?

To get the cars out of the way and sweep the debris off the track and the run-off areas, everything had to come to a halt. You can't clean up a disaster zone while an SC is out and cars are flying past you at full speed.

Think about it—it would have taken just as much time as the red flag did anyway. You need that window to clean everything up before the SC and the cars pass through that section again, which gives you maybe a two-minute buffer. And looking at how bad the wreck was, the SC would have been circling for ten laps, which essentially eats up ten racing laps.
