In just thirty seconds, he tumbled from 11th all the way down to 18th.
Check out photo 11. It’s solid.

It’s pretty obvious at this point that Ferrari just can't seem to get those tires up to temperature... if you watch qualifying closely, you'll see how often Fernando Alonso has to sacrifice a lap just to try and get some heat into the rubber. That means he's usually hitting his peak on the third lap, which is a huge disadvantage since he's already losing at least a tenth of a second by then. And that's with air temperatures sitting around 68°F; I can't even imagine how much worse it gets when the rain starts coming down.

Ferrari, man. What a mess.

The lap where Vettel cut the chicane wasn't actually his fastest.
He was running a 1:30.xxx during that stint—I can't recall the exact decimal.
His actual fastest lap was completely clean.

Then you have Fernando Alonso claiming he’s in the middle of a championship fight, so he has to be careful—or rather, he's being prevented from overtaking—while everyone else just goes absolutely wild attacking him.
Honestly, this whole tactical approach of his isn't working anymore. One moment he's driving like an absolute maniac, and the next he's just hovering, looking for any tiny window to shave off a single second.
Today was just frustrating to watch. He didn't make a single move to pass, didn't try to open up the car at all; he just sat there following the guy in front. I'm starting to seriously doubt if the Red Bull is actually faster than the Ferrari.

In my opinion, the decision made here was actually the right call.😉
Just give back the position you gained illegally and move on. What really gets under my skin is how the stewards are inconsistent—one time they'll let you hand back a position, and the next time they'll slap you with a penalty for the exact same thing.
I'm not specifically talking about Alonso or saying he deserved some massive punishment, but that's just how I see it.😉

if you ask me.🙂

It was pretty funny seeing Kimi Räikkönen tear into Pérez, calling him an idiot and all that because he crashed into his car...
He seems to have forgotten that he ended up slamming into Adrian Sutil at almost the exact same spot, driving in like a total amateur...😬

You can't just follow the rulebook blindly; you have to account for the specific characteristics of each track.
Not every corner is created equal.
This isn't a wide-open circuit in Germany where you have five meters of runoff on the side. Here, being just half a meter too far left or right means you're either:
1. hitting the wall
2. colliding with another driver
Regarding the situation with Alonso, the rule is simple: you are required to yield to your opponent, nothing more. That alone should be enough of a penalty, especially at the Monaco Grand Prix.
It honestly irritates me when I read people on Autosport arguing that drivers should be allowed to pit just to get around this. Give me a break.

In my opinion, he’s not even 1% at fault.
Perez was just way too optimistic when he dove into that tiny gap left open.
You can't brake that late and then expect the driver ahead of you to adjust their line just to fix your mistake.
If Perez had been trailing behind him for a while with his Williams lined up with the rear tire of kimijev, then sure, I might see it differently. But when you suddenly lung forward like that, it's a whole different story.
Some people are bringing up how part of his car was already level with kimijev, but that only happened right at the moment of impact. It's a stretch to expect Kimi to have reacted any differently in that split second.

Lewis wants to make a move on Mark Webber, but no luck there... honestly, who even tries to attack in Formula 1 these days? His engineer is already on the radio telling him to save those tires... so, naturally, he backs off.
🤦

Oh, Fernando, what a disaster today was... wtf?!

Mark Webber is struggling with the pace on this track again... but at least he's got the Monaco Grand Prix to bail him out.

This is Fernando's big chance right at the start.
It doesn't get any better than this, so I really hope he shows a bit more grit. If he doesn't have a clear opening, he tends to hesitate rather than go for it.
I'm itching to see him pull off something bold, maybe even a classic Perez Button or a Lewis Webber type of move.

Keep the race going!
The faster we go... by the way, I can switch out my tires now.

It’s a total disaster... they could probably count their fast laps today on just two hands.
Fernando's strategy isn't going to work.
I suspect both Mercedes and Vettel are planning to go for a one-stop race.
2013 Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1 ·
I’m not entirely sure if Alonso will opt for a one-stop strategy. It feels like everyone is playing the tactical game right now. Once we passed that initial seven or eight laps, the race really settled down into a rhythm where drivers are just managing gaps. Because of that, I honestly don't see his tires being in any significantly better shape than the rest of the leaders.

Brundle's grid walk.🙏
You’re standing right next to the car, getting ready to hop in, when you turn around and see Martin lunging at you, jamming his microphone straight up your right nostril.
2013 Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1 ·
We’ll have to see how things actually play out during the race, but looking back at the discussions from the last three days, I’ve got a feeling everyone is going to opt for a two-stop strategy.
It just doesn't seem right otherwise; if that specific setup was truly faster, it would have been more efficient than when Fernando Alonso had to pull off those four stops in Barcelona.
2013 Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1 ·
Personally, I think a driver starting on the outside has a solid shot at making up at least one position right away.
So, I’m expecting Fernando Alonso to pull ahead of Kimi Räikkönen after the first corner, especially since Kimi isn't exactly known for being aggressive during those opening laps.
As for Mark Webber, he’ll handle his start the way Mark Webber does, so there's really nothing to worry about there.

He looked absolutely soaked when he gave his interview.
I honestly can't wrap my head around what he botched.
😕

I don't get it... If you watch the slow-mo, you can clearly see him turn the wheel to the right, but the tires didn't follow. How on earth is that his fault? I'm lost.
