Will component prices drop soon?
I'm looking at the R7 260x and the AMD FX-6300 specifically because they're currently pushing me past my budget, and I'd really love to pull the trigger on this build! 😁

You probably noticed this with older standard LCD monitors—if you look at them from the side or from above or below, the colors just wash out, shift, turn gray, and the whole image looks terrible. With these newer matrices, that doesn't happen, or at least the viewing angle is significantly larger before things start looking weird.

Oh, I definitely noticed! The screen just goes dark! I am absolutely going to grab one with a newer matrix.👍

mellowtiger83 said:Go for an IPS panel or even PLS since monitor prices are so low right now. Honestly, the difference between those and old TN panels is negligible.
It's great that it has DVI and HDMI, though it isn't strictly necessary. If you're just using it for a PC, you won't even notice the difference between DVI and VGA. Like I said, prices are cheap, and most people already have DVI and IPS options available.

Feel free to grab the R7 260x! The R9 270 is faster, but not by a massive margin. If money is tight, the 260x is a solid choice—just don't go lower than that for gaming. You also have the Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti OC, which is super power-efficient and performs right between those two if you prefer Nvidia drivers.

Aim for at least an i3 or an AMD FX-6300. An FM2 setup with something like a 750k is a decent move, but they are pretty hard to find lately.

4GB of RAM is enough for now, but you'll definitely want to bump that up to 6GB or 8GB very soon. It’s better to just get the extra capacity immediately.

It’s actually quite straightforward!

Way to go! 👍
I'll most likely end up going with the 860k (or maybe the 750k), the R7 260x, and 8GB of RAM.

Dell UltraSharp monitor

Make sure you get a 1920x1080 resolution with a DVI or HDMI port (avoid anything with just VGA!). Also, if your budget allows, definitely aim for an IPS or PLS panel—or at least a VA panel, which is way better than those basic TN ones.

Yeah, yeah, I know that already... 😉 Please don't be mad, but what does "panel" actually mean?
And should the monitor have a wide viewing angle?👍

crimsonstag84 said:The difference is $83 at Amazon; for $192 an Intel Core i5-4670, it’s a total steal. It's slightly faster than an AMD Ryzen 3 and offers much better overclocking potential since you can upgrade to eight-core processors later.

Got it! When I'm shopping for a monitor (Full HD, HDMI, 21.5 inch) for about $15, what should I look out for? Also, does the graphics card have any impact on the monitor choice?
And while I have you, should I go with the 260x or the NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti?

mellowtiger83 said:I love all those high-end details! It’s great that someone actually remembered the old baby AMD FX series. Such a brilliantly put-together build, though I probably would have opted for an i3 myself.

Buy it now!!!!

As far as I know, an i3 is just a dual-core, and for upcoming games, a dual-core is basically zero!

Timothy Kim60 said:Honestly, the AMD FX-4300 was never a great deal here in the States since it was barely cheaper than the FX-6300. But over at Newegg, the math changes because you can grab it for $192. With a setup like that, you actually have a solid upgrade path to something like an FX-8320E later on
.

Only a psychic could possibly answer that one

So, I might as well just go for the FX-6300 if the price gap is that small...
Forget it!

Or maybe an even better monitor, plus$43:

Should I upgrade the RAM later with another 4GB, or just grab 8GB right from the start?
How much of a difference does this graphics card make compared to the 260x?

It looks pretty good to me! What kind of settings could I run GTA 5, Battlefield 4, COD, and stuff like that on?🙂

If you push that CPU overclock just a little further, you should be able to hit high settings, though we don't know the exact hardware requirements yet.

$1667 That's way out of my budget! I was actually looking for a case around $30 and a monitor for about $333..
Is there any way to put something together that still performs as well as this build?
I mainly need it for gaming.

Adam Moore3 said:It's an awesome deal! It's super cheap if you order it from overseas, though you'll definitely want to grab an aftermarket cooler for it.

Yeah, I saw that on YouTube (ScaterVolt)... what would a similar build cost here in the States?
And how would it handle gaming? For example, could it run GTA 5 on medium or high settings?

There's really no point in trying to cut corners. You can try to save on the small stuff, but you'll just end up overspending anyway.

$1085. Oh, plenty! $1000 Give or take $200.

I think you're overspending slightly. It would be much smarter to go for a six-core Intel Core i5-3470 instead. You'll have a great foundation if you want to upgrade to those beefier eight-core Intel Core i7-3770 processors later on. With your current choice, you'll hit a dead end immediately!

Thanks for the help,
I was actually aiming for 8GB of RAM, but this setup only has 4GB!
Is there any way I can save some cash elsewhere to afford more memory?

I'll need the whole setup. If anyone could suggest a power supply, an HDD, and so on, that would be great!
But let's try to keep the total around $3,000.
