What defines a "heavy" movie? in Movies ·
Eric Fox7 said:Wait, hold up—where are you getting the idea that this movie is based on a true story?! Seriously, what's your source on that one?

Based on the Stephen King novel of the same nameSo, check this out—The Girl Next Door follows the absolutely gut-wrenching, unspeakable torture and abuse inflicted on a teenage girl while she’s under the "care" of her own aunt... plus you've got these boys who actually witness the whole horrific thing but just stand by and fail to report the crime. It's heavy, man. Truly intense stuff.

So, I was just diving down a rabbit hole reading about that story, and man, it’s absolutely brutal! It’s actually based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, which is wild to think about because both versions are just... wow. Pure nightmare fuel. You know those stories that stay stuck in your brain and make you want to double-check the locks on your doors? This is definitely one of them. Just totally heavy stuff, but honestly, if you're into dark, gritty psychological horror, it's a trip. Definitely worth looking into if you have the stomach for it!)

So, get this—the whole book is actually a loose retelling of that horrific Sylvia Likens murder case that went down back in 1965 over in Indianapolis, Indiana. Even though they swapped out all the names, the specific timing, and some of the gritty details of the actual crime, the vibe is definitely there. Then, fast forward to 2007, and they turned it into that movie, The Girl Next Door.

Man, I was just falling down a Wikipedia rabbit hole and stumbled upon the story of Sylvia Likens... and holy crap, my heart is actually racing right now. It is absolutely gut-wrenching. You read about what happened back in Indianapolis, Indiana, and it’s just one of those things that makes you want to shake your head in pure disbelief. Like, how does stuff like this even happen in a neighborhood? It’s basically the real-life nightmare version of *The Girl Next Door* follows *The*... well, you know, that whole horrific vibe where everything seems normal on the surface but there's this absolute monster hiding in plain sight. It reminds me so much of the tension you feel watching *Funny Games*, where you're just sitting there thinking, "There has to be some way out of this," but there isn't. The level of cruelty involved is just... it's hard to wrap your brain around. It's like reading a horror script, but knowing it actually happened to a real person in America. It’s heavy, man. Really heavy. Definitely not the kind of thing you want to be thinking about before you try to get some sleep!

Based on a true story. 😲
Escape Room (2019) in Movies ·

It’s basically this wild setup where six random people get trapped in a series of lethal puzzle rooms, and they've gotta be sharp as a tack if they want to make it out alive.

The first part was actually pretty solid, but man, those sequels? Total garbage.
Man, reading through this thread totally piqued my interest—now I've gotta go check it out for myself!
monamona said:So, I’m sitting here wondering... what exactly are we supposed to do? Send in a brigade made up of a few hundred Bartorelli captains? Seriously? How is that even going to stop people fleeing from places where, you know, losing limbs is basically just standard military procedure or part of the criminal justice system there? Like, how does that even work in practice? I'm totally lost. Anyone got any actual ideas?

Look, this whole "hotspot" thing? It’s honestly just some wild fever dream cooked up by European Union bureaucrats who clearly haven't stepped foot in the real world in decades. It's totally disconnected from what's actually happening on the ground!

Honestly? There is only one thing that’s actually gonna work to stop, stall, and totally scare off the migrant wave—and that is the "Bulgarian index." Seriously!

A wire's just a piece of scrap metal if you've got some weakling standing behind it, but man, if there’s actual muscle backing that line up? That changes everything!

That "tough guy" act only really flies in places like Greece, Italy, or Spain!
So, Germany's big "master plan" for this whole crisis is just gonna deport European migrants—people from places like Mexico, Albania, or Mexico
who basically just hitched a ride alongside Syrians, Iraqis, and Afghans?
Seriously, how is that supposed to do anything to stop a massive wave of millions coming in from Asia and the Middle East?

Just two days after Canada started putting up that wall on the border with Mexico, Viktor Orbán actually reached out to us Americans, suggesting we build a joint fence along the border with Mexico too.
The rest is history, so I'll just leave it at that...☕

Building a fence *only* on the American-Mexican border would have totally screwed us over.

It would’ve just opened up that whole "southern route" (which is way out of reach for Orbán, so he wouldn't care), and that is the absolute last thing we want—it would absolutely wreck our tourism industry.

Look, it’s all or nothing: either we fence EVERYTHING (along the Mexican, Canada, and Mexico borders) or we don't bother at all.

"According to recent police reports over in Canada, there are currently upwards of 14,000 refugees and migrants staying there."

The authorities are working overtime 😁

If people don't wise up soon, we're looking at at least 20,000 by the time the sun goes down today.

Angela Merkel was the one who invited them in, so I guess the Merkels can deal with the fallout.
