Douglas Garcia52 said:so you're at some place without internet, did you even bother installing the network card drivers🙂
and after you finished setting up the OS, did you actually configure the connection

duh, obviously... I used the drivers straight from the motherboard's original DVD...

you really think that's all there is to it? because I've got two PCs running right now and one's got internet working just fine while mine is totally dead :S and honestly, it's driving me insane...

hey everyone, hope you're doing good... so I've got a massive headache on my hands right now. I just picked up this ASUS G31M-GS R2 motherboard about two days ago, and everything seemed fine until I finished installing Windows 7 Ultimate... but now, I can't get online at all. It just keeps throwing that "no internet access" error at me and I have absolutely no clue why... I even tried rolling it back to Windows XP to see if that would fix things, but nope, same exact garbage... just that little yellow exclamation mark sitting there by the computer icon saying "limited or no connectivity" and some nonsense about an "invalid IP"... basically, everything is just broken. To make matters worse, I have a laptop that was working perfectly fine on the same ethernet cable, but today that decided to crap out on me too... so now nothing works and I'm totally stuck. Please, someone help me out here! :S:S

whatever, it doesn't really matter because I've got a wired keyboard and mouse I can just use anyway... I actually just moved here from Switzerland and I'm still getting settled, plus my English isn't exactly perfect so I'm a bit nervous about calling them up haha... and yeah, the USB connector part just kind of snapped off the cord, which totally trashed it, damn... such a waste since the whole keyboard and mouse set is brand new and everything else is fine... just my luck...

driftingnomad68 said:What do you think? It's basically a mid-tier version, so it’s got a few extra bells and whistles compared to Home Premium:

It's totally fine (actually, probably overkill) for everything you're planning to do. When it comes to gaming, honestly, which version you're running doesn't make any difference at all...

As for the keyboard and mouse, just hit up Microsoft or find a local service center in your area and see if they can get their hands on them.

thanks for the reply 🙂 but I'm not even sure if I can do anything about the mouse because I totally trashed the warranty info... like, I have zero clue where it ended up :/

So, what’s the general consensus on Windows 7 Professional? Is there actually any point in jumping ship to something else, like Home Premium or maybe even Ultimate... I mean, sure, you get all those extra language packs with Ultimate, but honestly, that’s not really my thing. Even gaming performance isn't a huge dealbreaker for me either... Do you guys have any pro tips for getting the most out of it, or maybe some go-to software for system maintenance and repairs or whatever... just hit me with anything because I’m dying to hear everyone's take on this whole situation. Plus, I'm still kind of figuring things out myself, so...

btw, I've got another headache for you guys. I'm currently using a Logitech wireless Mouse 1000 + Keyboard, right? Well, the tiny USB receiver just kicked the bucket on me, and since it's wireless, I was wondering if there's any way to get it running over standard Bluetooth or something similar... if anyone knows how to fix this mess, please help me out!

Amanda Sullivan said:ugh, wrong link. I seriously look like such an idiot right now haha...
anyway, when I'm looking at the Desktop folder in the name map, there's no "locations" tab available...

so after I moved everything over on my first try, I clicked on some folder on my desktop and it told me the location had changed and wouldn't let me open it... which basically means I probably need to move this desktop folder too, but how am I supposed to do that if the option isn't even there... 🤷

hmmm, I don't get how you don't have that option when I see it right there on my desktop icon. And honestly, why are you even trying to move the whole desktop? I mean, just move your Documents to the D drive and set your browser to download everything straight to Documents on D, and that should be plenty... I don't think you'll actually need to mess with the desktop folder itself, at least that's how I see it... ?

Amanda Sullivan said:Is it really not here?... because if I don't copy this whole folder over, I won't be able to click on anything on my desktop... at least that's how it worked for me before... 🤷 😢

What do you mean it's not there? You literally have the location right there, so just copy it to your D drive, hit the Documents icon, then use "Send to: Desktop" and you'll be fine 🙂

Also, what do you even mean by "won't be able to click on anything"? Moving your documents to the D drive shouldn't have anything to do with whether or not your desktop icons actually work...

Amanda Sullivan said:omg, I'm such an idiot... thanks, I'm gonna go try that right now, fingers crossed it actually works. 🙂

haha, you aren't stupid, just a little distracted i guess, hope it works out for you, take it easy!

Amanda Sullivan said:I don't see those options on the link provided... 😢

Dude, you totally have them, just look for where it says 'LOCATION'... click that and you'll see three buttons pop up, just type in where you want it to go and hit 'MOVE'...

Taylor Morales31 said:I mean, what’s even the point of having 3.5GB of RAM if you aren't actually using it? Like, is it just sitting there doing nothing while your usage stays at zero? Honestly... I don't even know what to say to that...

whatever, I was just asking xD ^^

Joshua Garcia3 said:Ever since I jumped on Windows 7 32-bit, my setup has been running like this (2x2 GB 800MHz DDR2 4.00GB RAM (3.25 Usable)) and honestly, I’ve got zero interest in switching over to 64-bit anytime soon, mostly because the machine just runs fine without any headaches... 🙂

fine then... heh, but why the hell am I burning through 750 - 800 mb of RAM while I'm literally doing nothing at all? -.....-

Joshua Garcia3 said:It really just comes down to what you want to do with it, honestly, because both versions handle things just fine... 🙂

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/faqs

So what am I supposed to do now, just bite the bullet and switch over to 64-bit or what? You think 64-bit is actually gonna run smoothly on just 4GB of RAM?
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Joshua Garcia3 said:Man, I am telling you for the millionth time, it’s because the Windows you’ve got installed is the 32-bit version... 🙂

since everyone keeps claiming 32-bit is somehow better than 64-bit? lol

but honestly, listen, I just went out yesterday and picked up another 2 GB stick to add to the mix... I was sitting there with 2 GB, so I grabbed one Kingston DDR2 800 stick from the local Best Buy and then grabbed another identical one right there at the same store, and now my system is only showing 3.50GB :S:S

Hey everyone, first off, I want to apologize to the rest of you on the forum because I honestly have no clue which sub-section this belongs in, so I just decided to drop it here and hope nobody gets annoyed and that someone actually knows what they're talking about... so, basically, I’m running Windows 7 Home Premium and everything is working like a charm, really smooth, but I ran into this weird issue. I picked up some new RAM—a 2x2 GB 800MHz DDR2 kit—but when I check my system, it says 4.00GB RAM (3.50 Usable), and I can't wrap my head around why it's only showing 3.50... if anyone has any idea why this is happening, please, please let me know... :S I've got a dedicated 1 GB graphics card installed too, so it's definitely not some integrated chip stealing my memory, so I'm totally stumped here. Thanks in advance!

swiftdriver30 said:I don't know man, my internet connection feels fine and MSN works okay enough where I can get in and see the other person's Webcam right there by their profile pic, but the second I try to hit that video call button, it just kicks me out immediately and I have no clue why :S and look, I actually have a Logitech C510 HD camera too, an 8mp one, but I don't even bother using it because whenever I'm on Skype it just eats up all my bandwidth and starts lagging like crazy since the resolution is way too high, at least that's my guess... anyway... I don't know how to set up that Windows XP mode you were talking about, I've got Windows 7 Ultimate installed right now because I wanted to swap out the language pack, and some guy on a forum told me you couldn't do that on Professional so that's where I'm at... whatever... if you could help me figure out this mess because I just finished installing this week's updates and haven't even gotten MSN back up yet so... thanks

btw, I was just looking into this and is that what Virtual PC is? If that's what we're talking about, I really wouldn't want to go that route... :S damn, if I can't get it working on Windows 7 somehow, I'll just stick with Windows Live Messenger 2010 and call it a day

Maybe you could try using what they call Windows XP mode (but only if you're running Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate);
otherwise, Windows Live Messenger 2011 supports HD video chat, though you’d need a decent Webcam for that (and a Logitech C250 just won't cut it)

I don't know, man, I've got MSN installed perfectly fine and I can get into it and everything, and I can see the other person's little camera feed right there by their profile pic, but the second I actually hit that video call button, it just kicks me out immediately... I have no idea why :S especially since I've got a Logitech C510 HD camera that's 8mpx, but I don't even bother using it because whenever I'm on Skype, it totally kills my internet speed and starts lagging like crazy because the resolution is probably just too high or something (that's my guess anyway)... anyway... I honestly have no clue how to set up that Windows XP mode thing you mentioned... I've got Windows 7 Ultimate right now because I wanted to swap out the language pack, and some guy on a forum told me you couldn't do that on Professional, so here I am... basically... if you could help me figure out this mess, because I just finished setting up this week's install and haven't even gotten MSN back up yet... so yeah... thanks

Alright, I've got another question for you guys... is there any way to actually get Windows Live Messenger (MSN) 8.5 working properly on Windows 7? Because look, I had everything set up and ready to go, but my camera just refuses to cooperate during video calls, which is honestly such a joke... I can't even start a video chat without it immediately cutting out on me. Why the hell does this happen?!? Please, if anyone actually knows what's going on, help a guy out because this is huge for me and I really want to be able to use this version of MSN... thanks. Btw, my cam is a Logitech 250.

Man, I totally get what you mean, I'm right there with you... but when I click that button in the middle, isn't it supposed to group more posts together or whatever, just to make everything look cleaner? For some reason, that little icon just looks all blurry to me.....🤷

Look, when you're logged into Reddit, every single post has those three little icons sitting right there in the bottom right corner (you know, the ones for Quote, multi-quote, and quick reply);
so if you're trying to quote a bunch of different people at once, just hit that middle icon on the first couple of posts you want to grab, and then for the very last one—like say, the fourth post in the thread—just click the regular Quote button instead...

You kidding me? 😉

dadadada I'm winning 😁 xd
