Volunteer Drive in Paradise Village - We Need You

This Saturday, the little dragon volunteers are heading out to Paradise Village to drop off furniture, rugs, bedding, lamps, and basically everything else needed to get kids' bedrooms set up across the whole town. We lost two people to the flu, so we’ve actually got three spots open on the bus and/or in the vans. Transportation and food are on us—we just need hands on deck. Honestly, we could really use some guys to help out; the bus is pretty much packed with ladies, and we've got plenty of heavy lifting, unloading, loading, and furniture assembly ahead of us.

We’re rolling out at 6 AM from the bus station near The Herald on Fifth Avenue and will be back in the evening once everything is handed out. It’ll be one small bus full of volunteers and two vans loaded down with donations.

If you're interested, give us a shout at 091 567 0618.

Hope to see you there

So apparently we’re getting some kind of special treatment or perks that we don't actually have

The truth is, this Make-A-Wish Foundation started out just a few years ago right here on Reddit... our first drive was totally spontaneous and the main players were just fellow Redditors... eventually, that grew into an actual nonprofit

That doesn't mean we get any special benefits—which, by the way, we don't—it just explains why we still post certain drives on this site

Just like any other nonprofit that wants to share their causes on RiD, we sent all our paperwork over to the admins, and so far, our presence here has mostly been limited to that one specific thread on RiD where it's allowed
ovakve stvari su iznimka

As for how effective posting on Reddit is, I can't say for sure because it's definitely not the only way we spread the word, nor is it the only site we use

What I will say is that during our last few drives, when we advertised exclusively on RiD, we didn't see any real results—so we shifted our focus toward other ways of letting the public know what's happening

When it comes to the media, we aren't short on coverage, and it isn't hard to get... the bigger issue for us is protecting the privacy of the people we're helping. That's why we prefer staying under the radar (like on forums) and try our best to avoid putting our beneficiaries on TV or in The Los Angeles Times whenever possible

A couple of years back, I reached out to the admins about starting a dedicated charity sub-forum on Reddit, but that request was shot down, so almost everything we post is pretty much stuck within one single thread in the Parents and Kids section

The funniest thing ever was when I posted something in a politics thread, and the first mod swoops in and nukes everything except my specific comment—mostly because everyone started bickering like crazy. Then a second mod shows up just to slap some nonsense warning on my post, and finally, a third mod comes along and bans me entirely just because I had the nerve to push back.

I’m following fewer and fewer subforums on this site now. Honestly, I pretty much stick to the ones where the mods aren't total headaches and the users are actually sane... everything else? Yeah, I give it a wide berth.

I used to check out the politics sections every now and then, but I’m done. There’s really no point.
It’s honestly embarrassing to live in a society where idiots peddling nationalism, racism, and chauvinism aren't just tolerated, but they’re basically the ones handing out justice—accusing anyone else of being "unpatriotic" or "traitors" to the country and all sorts of other nonsense (all with the full blessing of the admins, of course).

So, thanks, but no thanks.

Reddit is totally responsible for the toxic atmosphere it creates, and it's going to be its own undoing once people finally start jumping ship.

Yeah, this thread is gonna be just as successful as the last 64 ones made about this exact same thing.

Honestly, you might as well just give up and accept that the mod is basically an all-powerful deity—they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, because apparently rules don't apply to them.

resistance is futile

Susan Price30 said:Some users here almost CONSTANTLY take every chance they get to bash Americans or make broad generalizations about us in a really negative light—so you'd think they should be the last ones complaining when the fair and decent Politics mods make decisions they don't like (which happens basically every single time).
Well, fine, it doesn't affect me, but I just wanted to say my piece...

Americans are a people who absolutely love to hate; whether it's targeting neighbors, people from other states, or even themselves, it doesn't matter... hating is what counts.

Whenever we run out of "enemies," we just start hating someone within our own country simply because they live in a different city or a few towns over.

Without hatred or real or imagined enemies, it’s as if we feel incomplete; we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves because practicing love is much harder than practicing hate.

The fact that we hate everything around us is reflected perfectly in the state of our country and how we live. Our individual attitudes bleed into everything local until they eventually become a national crisis.
Our own hunger for hatred results in the breakdown of our nation, yet of course, everyone else is to blame except for ourselves.
Karma catches up to us fast, and we're going to reap exactly what we sow.

that moderator is the exact guy who treats this kind of hatred like it's some healthy, patriotic emotion—something positive, even
he uses that exact hostility to justify his calls... but the second he sees anyone else acting out of line, suddenly they aren't a "real American" anymore.

It’s the same logic you use when you trash anything that isn't Catholic, pure, or "American"... which is probably why you felt the need to drop that little pearl of wisdom here.

When it comes to the American mindset, it’s pretty much a given that everyone is against everyone else—constantly finding new groups to hate on, even if it's just the next town over.

In the States, it's risky enough to park a car from New York in LA or vice versa... I guess that's all thanks to that "brotherly love" we're so famous for.

Americans are constantly taking shots at Canadians, Mexicans, whoever isn't on our side is an enemy... it's city against city, state against state... instead of actually working together to dig ourselves out of this mess, we're just digging deeper with our own primitive tribalism, disunity, and arrogance.

God forbid you point out that something in this country isn't working, and suddenly you're a communist, a leftist, or someone who hates America... especially on this forum.

All you're allowed to do is offer praise, flattery, and cheerleading, because otherwise, you clearly hate the US.

You're really the last person who should be talking, considering you remember those "affectionate" messages you sent me whenever you wanted us to gang up on someone you weren't feeling at the moment. Sorry, honey, but gossiping isn't really my style.

I’m totally on board with what James Diaz8 was saying here

I rarely chime in on political threads—it's usually not my scene—but I follow the news enough to see the exact same pattern emerging

Honestly, shouldn't politics, which is such a sensitive minefield to begin with, be moderated by someone with a bit more actual competence?
Lockheed Martin in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Need more examples?

"Actually, it’s quite the opposite—it turns out raising kids with strong patriotic family values clearly works, since they're fighting tooth and nail against all the nonsense being pushed through the public school system. It's honestly pathetic how little has changed; the empty slogans being served up in schools today (and in the courts) aren't even that different from the garbage we were fed back during the communist era."

Basically, he's telling his buddy that the guy making those "target the enemy" posters was actually raised with some seriously top-tier patriotic values.

Look at who’s out here accusing everyone on this thread of hating Americans just because they’re against hate speech and think making signs saying "Mexicans belong in the bushes" is a bad idea.
And how he was handing out bans—on what grounds even?

http://forum.us/showthread.php?t=655558

Loretta wrote this: "In this post, and in your other posts too, you're just showing off your own hatred toward Americans."
Even though the guy never said anything like that—hell, he didn't even think it.

I don't even need to explain this part:

"I don't see anything wrong with Americans in the US—who want to and think so (I'm not one of them)—clearly showing Mexicans from time to time that a portion of the citizens considers them undesirable. ...It's actually good for Mexicans living in the European Union, too—so they don't accidentally think it would be smart to buy houses on the Atlantic once the US enters the EU again..."

To him, that's totally fine—he basically supports using hate speech as a tool to make America more ethnically pure.

I have no clue what world they live in where it's okay for someone like this to be a moderator when it's so obvious he isn't impartial or objective to begin with.
Lockheed Martin in Feedback & Suggestions ·
How on earth is someone this insanely biased and totally subjective allowed to be a moderator? Especially when they’re sitting right there in the Politics section—calling out anyone who doesn't see things their way for "hate speech" against Americans, then handing out bans to anyone who dares to disagree. And then, to top it all off, they just cook up some nonsense excuses from Angela Newman33 to justify those mindless bans.

Get people like that off the mod team immediately—they're straight-up abusing their power.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is looking for some sponsors or donors to help us out with a few liters of juice and some snacks for a free art workshop we're running this week (this Thursday starting at 7 PM) for kids in need.

This is actually the second one in our series—we'll be hosting it at our space over on Broadway 181. It’s perfect for kids aged 5 and up.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is handling all the instructors, volunteers, supplies, and even the transportation for the kids, but we could really use a little hand with the refreshments.
It doesn't have to be a huge gesture since we're keeping the group small—just about 12 to 15 kids total.

So, just thinking along the lines of some juice, pretzels, snack sticks, or whatever.

If you have any questions or want to sign a kid up for the workshop, just hit us up at info@malizmaj.hr or give us a call at 091 567 0618

We’re looking for someone who’s frequently on the Amtrak route to help us deliver some relief packages to families over in Cleveland.

Anyone hanging around the Columbus or Springfield area with a car and some extra time, hit me up

I’m also thinking about anyone commuting from the Columbus area toward Chicago who might have some spare trunk space for a package

I'm trying to get a shipment over to a family out near Springfield, but they’re pretty much stuck—they don't have a car, so catching a bus, a train, or even getting to the FedEx office isn't really an option for them

The thing is just way too bulky to send via standard shipping

Whatever you do, don't just hand them cash—you have zero clue what they’ll actually blow it on.

Buy groceries, or if things are really bad, grab some shoes for your brothers.
Pay their school lunch directly—but again, don't give them the money for it. Just go online or head down there and pay the school yourself.

They're going to take advantage of you because they know you'll jump in the second an "emergency" pops up. But once they realize they don't have the dough for gas, cigarettes, or whatever other nonsense they're into, they'll be forced to actually manage their own money or start begging someone else.
That's how you slowly wean them off of you.

And stay sharp—they will literally invent anything just to squeeze cash out of you... don't fall for it.
When they try one of those tricks, hit them back with something smart and clever.
If they claim they're sick and need meds, go buy the medicine yourself. It's worth the extra effort to do it personally rather than just sending them the cash.

They’ll get pretty creative when it comes to draining your bank account, so you have to be even more creative. You've gotta put in the work to stay one step ahead and outsmart them.

Just remember... absolutely no cash. Not for anything.
If they tell you the power is getting cut off, go handle the bill yourself. You can't take their word for it—their addiction will always find some new way to live at your expense.

After a while, they'll get bored or frustrated when they see you aren't biting, and they'll have to figure out another way to survive... use that time to gradually break the cycle of them depending on you.

Trust me, I've been through this before. 🤣

mistycrane19 said:Sure, that logic holds up, but people caught in addiction rarely grasp the core issue. The mother ends up being a secondary factor, staying quiet just to keep some fake sense of peace in the house.

Who knows how much the old man drinks or how abusive he gets when he's wasted? Either way, he needs rehab.

The mother won't suggest it to her husband, so the daughter has to step up. In his eyes, she's an adult now—independent, earning her own paycheck. He might actually listen to her. But then again, addicts almost never admit they have a problem.

Yeah, right, like he's gonna listen to his daughter... give me a break. 🤣

The bottom line is this: when you enable someone's reckless, pathological behavior, you aren't helping—you're actually an accomplice, and you're doing them a massive disservice.

Love isn't about swallowing their crap and letting them walk all over you.

Real love is when you finally grit your teeth and stop letting them act out like that.

It’s about being honest and telling them exactly what's up.

It's forcing them to actually face themselves—to deal with their own shitty decisions and those broken patterns they keep repeating.

Anyone who thinks playing the martyr and constantly sacrificing themselves actually works needs to grow up.
Playing Mother Teresa just feeds their ego and nothing else.

Look, people don't need you to bail them out endlessly while they destroy themselves—just because you share some DNA or a relationship doesn't mean you have to go down with the ship. By doing that, you aren't helping; you're just making things worse.
If anyone knows a good glazier who wouldn't charge me an arm and a leg to fix this window, hit me up

Are video games destroying spirituality? in Spirituality ·
What video games will absolutely kill for sure is your sense of real-world priorities.

The moment when chasing that next level prevents you from actually taking care of yourself—like, say, grabbing a meal—or when you start picking virtual hangouts over seeing people in person... that's your cue to step back and ask if this is actually worth it.

Spending massive amounts of time gaming basically just drains your clock, your energy, and your drive for anything else. It makes it a total struggle to focus on everything else once you finally put the controller down.
It had nothing to do with Dinamo itself, though their fans were definitely there

and honestly, it’s not just them—fans from all sorts of different clubs show up all the time to help out with our drives
If anyone’s looking to grab an umbrella but can't make it out this weekend, just shoot me a DM—we can figure out a spot somewhere in the city, or I can just mail it to you if you're not local.
