Olivia Parker43 said:Thanks for the replies, but how am I supposed to shave 10 GB off one partition just to beef up the smaller one? And will I be stuck hunting down drivers after the installation—like for my graphics card and stuff? Also, is there a real chance I could mess this whole thing up? If I do, how do I fix it? Sorry, I know I'm hitting you with a ton of questions. 😁
I haven't actually done this before, so I'm feeling a bit uneasy about it.
If you aren't storing any critical data on that second partition, the cleanest approach is to simply wipe all existing partitions during the Windows installation and build them from scratch. For the system drive, I’d suggest allocating at least 50 GB to ensure things run smoothly.
You'll need to reinstall every single driver from the ground up.
Are you looking for general operating instructions for Windows 7, or do you specifically need guidance on the installation process?
Not at all. Are we talking about a desktop or a laptop?
Either the graphics card or some other hardware component is siphoning off your RAM to function properly.
Simply select "new simple volume" to generate the partition, then you can assign drive letters however you see fit later on.
Raymond Adams48 said:Hey there, I need some help.
I have two computers connected via a router that both have internet access.
Now, I want to be able to transfer data and files between them seamlessly.
Basically, when I go to "My Computer" and look under "Network," I can see the other PC, but whenever I try to open it, it asks for a username and password. When the other machine was running Windows XP, everything worked perfectly without any hurdles.
So, since I'm using Windows 7 now, it keeps demanding credentials—what should I do to fix this?

From where I’m sitting, your situation looks fine. I’m running Windows Professional X64 myself, and my Win directory sits at 16.8 GB, so your numbers aren't out of line.
If you find yourself hitting a wall with storage, just clear out your temp files, wipe your browser history, or trim down your system restore points.

It likely means copying the files over to Windows 7 so you don't have to deal with the headache of running a virtual machine.
If memory serves me correctly, a standard copy-and-paste operation should be sufficient for the task.
Just type "uac" into the search bar and disable it; once you do that, it'll stop bugging you for everything.
Go ahead and install SP1; you won't see any performance hits from the update itself. Given your current hardware specs, everything should be running smoothly, including Firefox. I'd suggest running a scan with Malwarebytes just to ensure you aren't dealing with any underlying malware or spyware issues.
Is the BIOS actually configured to prioritize booting from the DVD drive?
Is there any guarantee this DVD is even bootable?

From where I'm sitting, I see a full 4 GB being utilized. It isn't possible for the system to report usage if it simply isn't happening. -.- Furthermore, I feel no obligation to offer apologies to anyone here; I am looking at my own screen, and unless someone has actually witnessed my setup firsthand, they cannot convince me otherwise. By the way, you've provided two images of Windows. On another note, I performed some hardware upgrades yesterday—installed an Nvidia gtx 260 and a 1 TB hard drive—yet my score is still stuck at 5.9. Perhaps this is because my primary 320GB drive is still in place? That drive yielded a 5.9, even though the new graphics card should have pushed that number higher.
To be brief... I will say it again, you cannot utilize the full 4 GB on an x86 osa.

Running out of actual points to make, so we've moved on to personal insults?
swiftdriver30 said:Don't try to lecture me on technicalities when my system processes clearly indicate I'm utilizing a total of 4049 GB of RAM. 🙂
It’s like trying to drive through a massive oil spill on a highway; if the surface is that slick, you aren't going to get any traction.
swiftdriver30 said:It’s probably better to run 4 GB of RAM instead of 3, which is what I do. It helps me out, even if it doesn't work for you.
Sure, 4 GB beats 3 GB, but you actually need an x64 OS to utilize the full capacity of that memory.
Claiming that extra RAM is helping you is like trying to convince someone that a broken compass points north; it's just a hollow argument.
In reality, you're only seeing about 3.25 GB being used.
No software on earth is going to bridge the gap and allow an x86 OS to actually utilize all 4 gigs of RAM.
Is it possible you just saved a shortcut by mistake?

On topic: speaking of announcements, True Lies is airing in two weeks.😎
Uuu, True Lies is a powerhouse of a movie.

Honestly, what kind of nonsense was that?
I watched that a long time ago, but I’ll take Arnold Schwarzenegger over him any day, especially given the caliber of Predator and Terminator 2.
Arnold Schwarzenegger acts without a second thought, whereas Sylvester Stallone is nothing compared to him.
