Larry Ortiz5 said:If you can't buy Windows online because you don't have a credit card, the easiest way is just to grab a physical disc at a store like Best Buy. Go over to a neighbor's or a friend's place, pop the disc into their computer, and make a bootable USB. Once that USB is ready, just leave it alone... keep those Windows files on there indefinitely. That way, if you ever need to reinstall Windows down the road, you just plug the drive in and go. Nowadays, grabbing an 8GB USB drive isn't exactly a huge investment for $17. If you really want to have Windows sitting on a USB stick at all times, that's your best bet. I don't think there's much of another option. If you decide to go that route, let me know and I'll walk you through how to make the bootable USB... easy as that.

Thanks for the reply. Might do that. Or maybe I'll just download some Linux...

Should've mentioned this in my first post 🤷.
I'm running Windows XP, and since I've seen everywhere that Microsoft 2014
is dropping support for Windows XP... I was wondering what the best move is for a new OS. Just trying to be prepared for when it happens
. Maybe I'm wrong about finding Windows 7 or 8 legally on a USB... or maybe I can do it the way you described. I think Windows 7 might be more my speed. Or maybe a version of Linux...

Larry Ortiz5 said:As far as I know, there isn't one. But there are free tools that let you put Windows onto a USB drive. Basically, just download the installer from the web, burn the ISO to a USB, and install from there. Another way is if you have a Windows 7/8 disc, pop it in, make an ISO, and move that to a USB. It's pretty straightforward... plus, installing via USB is way faster than using a disc.

Just list your specs for whatever machine you're trying to run Windows 7 or 8 on.

Then I'm out of luck. If I download official Windows from the internet, I'd have to pay for it online with a credit card. And I don't have one.
I've got this old Acer Aspire laptop... can't use a disc, only USB. So, it would be great if I could just buy a legitimate Windows 7/8 USB stick. Something I could actually walk into a store and pay for with cash...

Quick question... can you actually get Windows 7 or maybe even 8 on a USB stick? Like, is there a way to buy it legally? And if so, where...
I'm rocking an old Windows XP laptop.
