Look, there are middle school reading assignments that hit 300-400 pages easy. My kid actually just finished *Into the Wild*, or something like that. The book is around 320 pages, and the plot basically repeats itself four times. She loved the first 100 pages, but after that, she could barely finish it because it was just so boring. And this is a kid who actually loves reading! She'll definitely pick up reading as a hobby when she has the time.
Just give me the Hobbit, not Lord of the Rings. Why waste my life watching those movies? You get a hundred pages of book and somehow end up with three two-hour films that barely even follow the plot 😁
Look, I’ve actually had some pretty smooth runs with the Democratic Party. My issues have mostly been with HDMI. Everything from cables hooked up to my cable box to the TV itself—it was such a mess where the menu wouldn't even show up properly with the picture. Then just yesterday, the HDMI wouldn't let me go above 60 Hz unless I went into those custom resolution settings and manually forced 1920x1080 to 75 Hz. You’d never guess it wasn't some high-end setup, right? It displays the monitor name perfectly fine, but it's stubborn about that 60 Hz limit. Once I set it manually, though, everything worked like a charm. By the way, does anyone else here own this Palit 750 Ti card? Are they usually a bit louder, or did I just get stuck with a unit that has a slightly warped fan? It's not a huge deal, but at minimum speed, there's this low, annoying hum coming from the fan. You don't even notice it unless the house is dead silent.

Confirmed: 75Hz runs perfectly fine over HDMI. Couldn't push it any higher since my screen won't allow it. It doesn't show up automatically, though—you have to set it as a custom resolution. But hey, it works!

Can I ask a quick, kinda silly question? If I've got a dedicated GPU plugged in, but my motherboard has a DP port and the card doesn't, can I still use that DP port on the board? Or am I stuck switching over to an HDMI cable on the graphics card? I'm using a Dell Monitor, so I'm mostly asking because I really want to use those built-in speakers if I can.
Honestly, it doesn't even matter. It’s way too early to worry about that anyway. Besides, I've already got a client lined up who'd buy the whole setup off my hands if I ever decided to pick up a decent rig 😁 This is really just about making my kid happy—they aren't even a huge gamer or anything, but I want to fulfill their wish and kill some time while we wait for the snow to finally hit this winter.
Man, he was definitely pushing it at 100%, even with the screen flickering and all, and that's without even having a GPU in there yet. Anyway, the CPU is going in today, and if the seller doesn't screw me over, I'll have the graphics card by Monday. Fingers crossed! Then we're hitting Fortnite hard. I was running an Intel Core i3-4130, but I just stumbled upon an Intel Core i5-4570 today, so I think I basically scored a massive upgrade by accident. Like I said, I’m not exactly an expert, but they both use the same socket, right? So they should be swappable. I know this might be a dumb question, but will anything blow up if I just swap them out physically (assuming I use fresh thermal paste and everything)?

Can anyone help me out? I’ve got this pretty old rig, a Lenovo ThinkCentre. It used to be a mini tower, but it's been moved into a standard case now, and it's sitting at 8GB of RAM, just so nobody gets confused about the size. Basically, I just want to throw a cheap GPU in there so it can actually run Fortnite. I'm not looking to drop a ton of cash on this thing since it's ancient. This is the first time anyone in the house has even asked to play something, and we aren't exactly dying to do it, but it would be cool if we could. The problem is, right now it's totally choking because it's just running on that basic Intel integrated graphics. So, does anyone have any suggestions on what to grab, or maybe even something to sell?
