Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Nicholas Ross38 said:Windows 7 is actually pretty solid, especially if you're running the Ultimate edition. Honestly, I’m not even sure Windows 10 will ever truly top it. P.S.: I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but unlike previous versions, Windows 7 seems to have this subtle way of reminding you just how much "junk" you bought when you dropped $1,000 or $3.25 on a laptop or desktop. It’s almost like it's trying to let you know that more expensive hardware actually performs better.

No, I'm fairly certain that index was intended to prove that cheaper computers are superior? Haha

Windows 64-bit?
Are you measuring everything in inches now, or did you just lose your mind for a second?

Then, it keeps reappearing every fifteen minutes or so, leaving me staring at nothing but a black screen. Does anyone know how I can validate Windows or whatever else needs doing so this stops happening?

Just buy an original copy of Windows.
It beats trying to struggle through an illegal version like you're doing now.

Noah Johnson63 said:I did a clean reinstall of Windows without any external media because my Toshiba had everything pre-loaded on the drive. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't even be able to reinstall since crazy Bill doesn't actually offer the OS for download. Now, the update process shows 190 separate installations pending. Windows is so poorly designed that instead of handling updates intelligently, it just tries to grab everything at once, hangs, and forces you to restart. I've been sitting here for 10 hours watching this junk spin while there are still about 150 installs left to go. It’s unbelievable that those idiots didn't think to bundle them into batches of 20 or 50. It's honestly mind-boggling that this kind of mess has been sold for 30 years and somehow remains the most popular choice out there.

I think you might be getting a little worked up here? Just take a breath.
If they're really that terrible, why are you even running Windows 7?
You're reinstalling old versions of Windows and then acting shocked when there's a massive pile of updates waiting for you. It's kind of wild, isn't it? 😉

Larry Ortiz5 said:It’s just like when you have a USB drive filled with movies and you decide to format it; once it's done, do you honestly think those movie files are just sitting there waiting to be found? Please, let's be reasonable here—that's why they call it a "format." Once you wipe it, the data is gone, unless you hand it over to some high-end specialist with incredibly expensive forensic equipment...

Actually, after a disk is formatted, you can often recover upwards of 90 percent of the data using basic tools that anyone can download.

Drew Allen77 said:What exactly do you mean by "pirated" Windows?

I’m talking about any version of Windows where the user hasn't actually paid for the license.

So, what you're saying is you want to go the pirate route with Windows?

Well, you just go out and buy a license.

Give it another shot.

Yeah, but that would be Catia 4.

Drew Allen77 said:Well, you were actually the first one over here rambling on about all these "superior" programs that supposedly need Windows, yet you still haven't named a single one. Just come clean and admit you're bluffing; there's no shame in it.

Drew Allen77 said:Well, there are plenty of operating systems out there besides Windows.

Sure, if all you want to do is surf the web, there are plenty of alternatives.
But the moment you actually need to install some decent software... you're going to need Windows.

Joshua Price37 said:Windows is ancient history. The whole OS is just so fundamentally broken and outdated at this point that it'll probably be completely dead within the next year or two. The traditional PC as we once knew it is headed straight for the museum. Honestly, I've had enough of the constant headaches it causes...

Oh, please. And what exactly are you planning on installing then? What else is there besides Windows?

How many licenses are we talking about here... assuming they're running on three more PCs?

I was wondering if anyone else has run into issues trying to install Windows 7 on an Asus X551MA laptop?

Any idea what might be causing the headache?

It works fine for me.

It looks like the Windows 7 installation didn't quite go smoothly... Or maybe we're just dealing with some wonky drivers.

I mean, you probably have a general idea of what screen resolution you actually bought for this laptop, right?

Morgan Foster5 said:I have a quick question regarding an upgrade. I'm looking to install Windows 7 64 BT, but the only motherboard drivers I can find are specifically for Windows XP and Windows Vista. Would anyone know if those 64-bit Vista drivers would actually function on Windows 7 64 BT?

Personally, I wouldn't count on it; those old Windows XP drivers almost certainly won't play nice with Windows 7.

Jonathan Wood5 said:Alright, thanks. If I switch over to Windows 7 64-bit, will that actually fix the issue where it recognizes all my RAM, and will it work fine with a UEFI BIOS?
Thanks

Yeah. I'm running the x64 version of Windows 7 myself.
It sees the full amount of RAM without any issues.
Plus, you've got a processor that supports 64-bit instructions, so there's really no downside.
Any older applications designed for 32-bit should run just fine.
Honestly, I can't see much point in anyone sticking with a 32-bit OS these days.

Jonathan Wood5 said:I just picked up a Lenovo G710 (Intel Core i5 4200m, DVDRW, 6GB RAM, 1TB HDD + 8GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GT720M, 17.3" LED, LAN, BT, webcam, USB 3.0) that didn't come with an OS. I was planning on installing Windows 7 32-bit, but I noticed the BIOS is UEFI, which seems to only support 64-bit operating systems. Is there any way to make this work?
Thanks

I have to ask... why?
A 32-bit version of Windows is only going to recognize about 3.2 or maybe 4GB of RAM at most.
Why wouldn't you just take advantage of all the memory you actually have?
