The experts claimed the rotor project in Washington, D.C. would cost $350 million and that it was perfectly reasonable.

Don't go questioning anything.

Look, it’s not an issue if you agree with this decision, or even if you disagree with me. But trying to shut someone down just because they think a choice is bad or holds a different view—that's nothing more than blind obedience.

For instance, ZZ said he doesn't see any issue with their decisions, which is fine. But in two weeks, if a decision comes out that he doesn't like, he’ll be questioning it, just like he questions everything regardless of whether he originally agreed.

But being a sycophant and playing the follower is something else entirely.

mellowotter36 said:Honestly, maybe we should just let urbanhawk17, Anthony Jackson2, and Paul Sanders5 handle the measures to stop this virus. I have this gut feeling they might actually be better epidemiologists than the professionals who have spent their entire lives studying this.

Look, I'm no expert, so I'm definitely not going to second-guess the medical pros. I’ll just point out one thing: those people who were looking to get out of places like Washington, D.C. already made their move last week (I was right there with them). So, I really wonder if these new rules will even achieve what they're aiming for.

And then there's that guy who couldn't care less whether a thousand people end up suffocating in a hospital hallway...

The experts were also questioning yesterday why Božinović felt the need to restrict retail hours.

Well, I guess Dino is officially Team Putin and pro-dictatorship now. 🙄

If you were coming from Belgium, you wouldn't have had to quarantine (though I don't know if they changed the rules, I'd be surprised if they did), but driving from the suburbs into Washington, D.C. is a total nightmare.

Maybe someone should just put a Star of David on our hands or something, so we can stop messing around.

Božinović is a communicator, almost on par with Krstičević. Though, I guess Krstičević still holds the edge.

As for this whole thing about product advertising, it feels pretty pointless to even comment on.

restlesssurfer97 said:When you're trying to get an accurate read on mortality rates, you really have to look at the countries that are actually putting up a fight against the virus while staying transparent—and let’s be honest, China is definitely failing the transparency test there—so the real benchmarks are Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, and now Korea, which is basically living proof that you can actually crush an epidemic without forcing everyone into total lockdown.

The outbreak in Korea actually kicked off a day or two before it hit Italy, and while Korea shot up quickly to 5,000 cases, Italy hit 3,000 at the exact same time. Now, Korea is sitting at 9,000 but they've stayed under 100 new infections a day for several days already, whereas Italy... man, God help them.

What’s going down in Italy right now is a straight-up collapse, just a complete systemic breakdown, and as tragic as it all is, it’s an absolute embarrassment for them, so I wouldn't be surprised if things get messy once this is over—I could easily see trials and even prison time coming down the line.

Everything you said holds up. Maybe the only real difference is how people are acting. In Korea, they have this app where you can track where infected people are and how they move (I'm not sure if they're forced to use it or if they opt-in), like that famous case of the guy who was infected while attending a seminar on sexual violence. Meanwhile, Americans in Italy seem to be breaking quarantine just to act like fake tough guys.🤷

Setting aside the math on mortality rates, you don't need to be a genius to figure out which of these two scenarios is more likely to happen here.😁

EDIT:

Here's that link regarding Korea.

Look, this wasn't some big debate and I’m not trying to walk away with a trophy. I'm just pointing out how this virus actually differs from the usual stuff we deal with. Some people—even on this thread—keep acting like this thing isn't a big deal. I'm not saying it's the worst thing to ever hit the planet, but it's definitely not just some mild flu where you cough once and move on with your day.

you're claiming it kills 30 times more.

Chloroquine actually showed some potential, but the second there was even a hint that it might help, it was wiped off the shelves of basically every pharmacy in the country!

Still, seeing such a high percentage of people recovering or improving is encouraging, even if the sample size is pretty small.

edit:

Roughly what percentage of Americans get vaccinated before flu season starts? And how many of those are over 60?

Are those numbers even available somewhere?

Michelle Palmer6 said:But honestly, it doesn't even matter; I seriously doubt a single "cure" is going to fix this whole situation. In the best-case scenario, a cure would only be developed after most countries have already weathered the worst of it. This thing will likely just run its natural course, which is exactly what all these interventions are trying to mitigate by flattening the curve. Maybe in the end, all this won't even make a massive dent—who knows? The experts say it's worth the effort, though. That’s actually part of why this is so dangerous: it’s unknown, it’s new, and nobody has built up immunity yet. And once immunity does develop for Coronaviruses, it isn't exactly a quick process either. We don't even know the exact infectivity or prevalence because so many people are asymptomatic, spreading the infection without even realizing they're sick. It carries a heavy mortality rate. It’s not some movie virus that wipes out half the world and turns everyone into zombies, but it definitely kills, both in older populations and in those in their prime without major comorbidities (if I recall correctly, one report suggested about 20% of total deaths in the US were in the 25-50 age range). This isn't just a slightly nasty flu. Even if it were, remember the Spanish Flu? It took 18 million lives in its wake, regardless of the medical capacity or conditions back then.
A cure might not even be super effective, but the pandemic will pass, and the vaccines for this and similar Coronaviruses will likely be developed due to all this massive chaos and hyper-research, protecting us from future waves.

Okay.
Congrats, you won an argument that wasn't even happening! 🤷

Nicely put.👍

Michelle Palmer6 said:It isn't a guaranteed win for everyone, but yes! In fact, right in the middle of everything going on, a second case of a total HIV cure was just recorded over at Verizon.

Yeah, I know. It involves transplanting stem cells from someone who's immune to the CDC virus. As far as I understand, it's still mostly in the experimental phase.

I also think there's a pill for the CDC virus that keeps it from progressing to AIDS.

Michelle Palmer6 said:We actually have a vaccine for the flu, but the real headache is how quickly it mutates seasonally—something you don't typically see with the coronavirus

Edited.

I wasn't talking about a vaccine. I was talking about a medication.

Because whether you say vaccine or medication, it matters.

Can hepatitis B actually leave the body after treatment?

What about HIV?

Of course not.

But I guess you do.

Like how it's somehow thirty times more lethal, too.

That’s all I’ve got. Believe me, I just don't care anymore.

wiredfalcon2 said:Look, we can either trust in actual human progress—real science involving levels of global cooperation we haven't seen since... well, maybe climate change—and accept that four more top-tier scientific institutions in the European Union have already jumped on this virus research. We can trust people who spend their entire lives studying this stuff and actually know what they're doing 150 times better than any random person on the internet telling us how to live our lives. Or, we can just be those arrogant jerks who think we know better than everyone else. I get it. We live in a country where institutions are shaky and trust is basically non-existent (for good reason), but let's try to be realistic here. Why on earth would every single sector, every industry, every private funder, and every relevant government agency just commit mass suicide through quarantine just for the hell of it?

So, did you actually find a cure for the Corona virus, or are you just sitting there wishing one would show up?

Actually, in the history of mankind, nobody has ever just "found" a cure for a virus, yet you're acting like that's the only thing that can save us.

And then you turn around and call everyone else arrogant?

Anyway, I'm not looking for an argument.😉

Vekjo laid it all out for you.

I guess you're all experts now.

So far, there hasn't been a cure for the virus, though Vekjo is looking into it alongside a few other specialists.

Maybe that's our only shot at getting through this.

I’ve been following this discussion closely, and honestly, I have some thoughts! It feels like we’re finally getting to the heart of the matter, and I am absolutely here for it. The way everyone is weighing in is just fascinating. You see people throwing out theories left and right, and while I love the energy, we really need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. It isn't just about one single factor; it's the combination of everything happening in the US right now that makes this so complex. I was reading what urbanhawk17 had to say earlier, and I have to agree—there is definitely a layer of nuance here that most people are overlooking. We can't just jump to conclusions without looking at the data! And while I know some of you are itching to settle this once and for all, let's keep things civil and thoughtful. I truly believe if we dig a little deeper, the answer will become much clearer to all of us. Let's keep the conversation going! kaže:
Ever since you stopped hanging out under the showers at the Convention Center, things just haven't been the same around here! A lot of stuff has been totally thrown off balance without you. ☕

Wait, wouldn't that just solve the whole thing?
