Maria Fisher46 said:Hey Anthony White8,

That CRP result you mentioned just points more toward a viral infection. I'm not gonna guess which specific virus it is because, honestly, looking at just these few numbers, there's no way to be sure... but yeah, the flu is definitely on the table.

The main thing is that the kid is feeling better, the fever broke, and those signs of infection are fading. So, it's totally expected that the blood work starts looking better too—specifically, seeing that total white blood cell count go back up. Usually, things normalize a few days after they start recovering.

Best, 🙂

so we checked the blood today. WBC is at 4.5 now (after three days)🙂....
Maria Fisher46 said:Hey Anthony White8,

Low white blood cell counts can pop up with nasty viral infections, and it's also listed as a rare side effect of Clavulin. So, a heavy-duty virus could cause that drop all on its own, and maybe the Clavulin just added fuel to the fire...

Your daughter's blood work—showing low white cells (leukopenia) alongside high lymphocytes (relative lymphocytosis)—could totally be a reaction to a rough viral bug.

Either way, if this is just from a virus, you’d expect those white cell levels to bounce back to normal within a few days of recovery. You absolutely have to get that checked again.

It is definitely not too early for a follow-up blood test! You seriously need to get it rechecked!

Best wishes to you and your daughter. 🙂

Thank you for the quick reply. I forgot to mention we also had the CRP tested back then, and it was (I assume negative, since there wasn't a number, just that it was under 8)... could a blood count like this point toward the flu? This week at daycare, out of a group of 25 little ones, only 8 showed up, so I'm guessing it's some kind of nasty virus🤷. We're going in for a blood check tomorrow. If it was a virus, should we expect the white cell counts to be back to normal since the last test on Monday
(which was also the last time she took Clavulin), or does it still need more time to process?
My little girl (6 years old) had a fever hitting 100.4 for a few days with a super stuffed nose (the temp popped up one day, disappeared for two, then came right back). Her doctor checked her without even doing blood work and guessed it was just strep since her throat looked bright red. She prescribed Clavulin. But even after five days on it, her temp keeps bouncing around—hitting 99.5, jumping to 100.7, then dropping... yesterday, on the fifth day, I finally took her in for blood work and the results are terrible

Leukocytes 2.7 (5-18)
Gran% 22.1 (30-72)
Lym% 71.7 (16-55)
Erythrocytes 4.94 (4-5)
Hemoglobin 144 (109-138)
Hct 0.41 (0.32-0.40)
MCV 83.6 (73.8-99.4)
MCH 29.1 (24.3-29.2)
MCHC 349 (300-350)
RDW 13.5 (11.9-16.2)
Platelet count 146 (150-450)
Platelet count 8.3 (6.9-11.3)

Now that same pediatrician is claiming the labs show it’s actually a nasty virus and not a bacterial infection, saying the Clavulin basically tanked her white cell count. She told me to stop giving her the Clavulin and said everything should go back to normal in a few days
She didn't even tell us to come back for follow-up blood work😕
Can Clavulin (mixed with a virus and those fever reducers) really crash the white cell count that hard??Can anyone else make sense of these labs?
And how many days should I wait before we get her blood rechecked? I was thinking maybe in 3 or 4 days. Is that too soon?
She hasn't had a fever since yesterday, just a super stuffy nose
Is Tylenol being discontinued in the US? in Health ·
Tylenol chewables for kids have been totally pulled... like, they haven't been in any pharmacies for probably over six months now🤷
Been running a high fever for three days now plus all the other symptoms... feels like the flu is hitting hard... CRP is 55 and leukocytes are at 8... does this mean there's a serious infection or could it just be the flu...

Though, during this first semester, they basically just sat there doing homework with a teacher in the afternoon...
The whole program was a bit of a disaster, I suppose..

The communication logs were a mess... they didn't actually accomplish anything.
It was mostly just kids running wild in the classroom or outside..
The teacher even let them take their jackets off outdoors, even if it meant losing points on their behavior rating.
Basically, 👎
I'm quite disappointed, honestly, because the first two boys had a much better, far more high-quality program in their after-school group..
Now a second teacher is stepping in, so hopefully the curriculum will be somewhat more substantial.

Is this in the States or some other city?

rustydrifter10 said:At my kids' school, the little ones who are enrolled in the full-day program are already there by seven in the morning. 🙂 Classes run all the way until 4:00 PM, and you can't really pick them up any earlier unless they happen to wrap things up a few minutes ahead of schedule—which is rare, unless there's an emergency or something.

But I have to say, there is a massive difference between a full-day curriculum and just having after-school childcare. 🙂

They actually get to go outside whenever they have the chance and the time, and they spend a lot of their day playing board games together... Honestly, I’m incredibly happy with the school my children attend. 😁

As for letting the kids be on their own, mine have been walking to and from school by themselves since day one, and they'd hang out home alone for a bit too. Of course, I did my absolute best to keep those solo moments as short as possible, but sometimes it was just unavoidable. Occasionally, if someone was available to swing by and grab them, or if a neighbor could watch them while I stayed late at work... well, those were exceptions to the rule, but we made it work.

so what's the actual difference?

http://www.chicago.gov/AfterSchoolPrograms
An after-school program lets kids hang out at school before and after regular classes, including organized meals and both academic and extracurricular activities.

Full-day schooling is a specific version of this setup, designed to blend core classroom instruction with organized free time for at least eight hours a day (usually from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM).

I honestly don't get the distinction... those two look identical to me😕?

i what grade are we talking about here? and do they stay together in the next grade or does the school just split them up into different classes?

So they actually head out to the park or hit the playground during that free time? Man, that’s a relief. I was seriously stressing that they’d be stuck staring at four walls all day...
One more thing... so the kid can't be picked up before 3:30 PM? My husband is out in the field a lot for work, so he ends up home for like ten days straight sometimes. Can he just grab the kid at noon when classes wrap up so they can get homework done at home, or does it strictly have to be 3:30... and honestly, do you think this whole setup is exhausting for them? I mean, it's basically a full-time grind from 8 to 4, and some kids are there even longer🤷

Mine would probably go to Springfield Elementary School.... I heard this one lady mention it (and she actually makes sense, weirdly enough). She was saying that during that 12-4 window—when they should be focusing on schoolwork and playing—everyone is crammed into one room. Half the kids are playing, half are trying to study, and those trying to learn just can't concentrate. They end up falling behind because it's such a mess

So I’ve got a preschooler and school enrollment is coming up in a few months. Honestly, this is becoming a massive headache for me. What do I even do? I have no clue...
My husband and I both work full-time, and our commutes suck—I’m looking at half an hour while he’s stuck in the car for an hour each way... I gotta be at my desk by 7:00, which means leaving the house at 6:30... and I don't get back until 4:00... He's even worse, out the door at 6:00 AM and not home until 6:00 PM. My mom works too, but maybe she could shift her schedule to start at 8:00 so she can drop the kid off...
Our local school offers an all-day program, but I don't actually know any other kids going there... So, my options are either enroll him in the 8-to-4 program where my mom handles the drop-off and I pick up the tab, or go with "regular" school hours and—if we can swing the cash—find a sitter to handle the pickups and hang out with him until we're home. Ideally, some reliable older lady living nearby, but I don't really know anyone in the neighborhood...
I'll probably end up going with the first option, so I need the lowdown on this all-day thing... Is it strictly 8-to-4? Do they bring books home during the week (I actually want to know what my kid is learning and doing)? What's the vibe like, how's the food, and is it exhausting for the kid? Is there constant supervision, and what's the damage on the monthly cost? I read somewhere it's around $333 a month... How long does it last, and do they stay in the same class the whole time?...

Also, I need to know: how long did you guys wait before letting your kids walk to school alone? Like, when are they actually mature enough if the school is close by? And when do they become old enough to stay home alone after school? I've heard people say they start leaving their first graders home alone while they're at work, which sounds absolutely insane to me... Also, does someone watch them during recess in first grade? Seriously, how did you survive the transition to school, and how did your kids handle the workload and making new friends?
Nicholas Rogers said:Hey everyone, I’m posting here because I really need some outside perspectives before I go see a doctor—actually, I’m wondering if I even *should* bother going at all...

So, I spend my entire day glued to a computer screen, sometimes more than others, but it’s not unusual for me to pull four hours straight or even grind through an 8 or 9-hour stretch with just tiny breaks. But here’s the thing: after maybe an hour or two of work, I start feeling this intense pressure right behind my eyes and in my sinus area, and then it turns into this absolutely unbearable nausea where I feel like I’m about to throw up any second. Sometimes I get dizzy too, and if it gets really bad, I honestly just have to crawl into bed, totally wiped out and feeling like I’ve caught some nasty flu or something.

For what it's worth, my diet is fine, I don't wear glasses, my vision is perfect, and honestly, I’m usually in pretty great shape overall.
What do you guys think? Is this actually being caused by my monitor, or should I be booking appointments with an eye doctor, an ENT, or a neurologist? Or should I just quit my job entirely and donate my computer to charity? 😉

Thanks!

same shit😢

I'm on the PC for like 10 hours a day. Zero sunlight since my office doesn't even have windows, just crappy fluorescent lights. Total disaster. I deal with neck issues, nausea, whatever... last year I had these bouts of dizziness and puking so bad I couldn't even get out of bed... went through endless tests (neurologist didn't even think I needed a brain scan, apparently)... basically ended up with nothing concrete again🤷
Music school recommendations? in Students & Teens ·
Just signed my little one up for music preschool in San Diego (public school system). We go twice a week, $500 paying it off over 10 installments... so it works out to about $42 a month (honestly not much) plus that yearly $50 participation fee... we just went for the first time and she’s obsessed... though she won't stop asking when she gets to touch the instruments because she's totally hooked on the violin...
Basically, they teach them songs through games and stuff at the preschool...
