Plus, I don't see why we couldn't start a similar thread in the psychology section to explore things from a slightly different angle.

That’s a fair point... 🙂

Let me see if I can chip in here too. Wouldn't the topic of fear for one's child be a better fit over at the Psychotherapy Clinic? I've started posting a bit more frequently there lately, and I’d really value hearing from people who have spent years navigating their own various anxieties. Plus, I feel like this specific discussion wouldn't get swallowed up by all the other noise in the main feed.

Good grief, the PDF is a complete mess, cluttered with absolute garbage.
On top of that, it’s drowning in childish, often downright malicious bickering and trolling.
Useful information is practically non-existent; you have to dig through layers of filth just to find a single useful tidbit.

Look, I get it—RiD has always been poorly moderated, and you’ve grown accustomed to that chaotic regime. But it’s honestly ridiculous to demand special notifications that the standard forum rules will apply to RiD, just as they apply to every other PDF on this entire site.
As for those excuses about being too busy with small children at home to read the rules—save that for the kids, because I highly doubt they’ll buy it either.
If you have the time to sit there and type, you certainly have the time to read the rules.
The truth is, you don't read them because you couldn't care less, especially since nobody ever forced you to follow them before. 🙂

Furthermore, the new moderators have definitely done their homework regarding RiD.
I spent nine full months reading through it while I was a pregnant woman, and even then, I never felt the urge to jump into any of the threads (the chat drama and nasty trolling aren't exactly appealing, even when you're dealing with pregnancy brain). I had to hunt for information with a metaphorical flashlight, and half the time I just gave up because I didn't feel like wading through endless pages of chat noise, thread hijacking, and the malicious trolling from various cliques that inhabit that space.

There are going to be plenty of changes coming to RiD, and my hope is that it becomes a much higher-quality place to hang out. Some people will love the new direction, while others will inevitably throw a fit because things aren't going their way.
As for the threats to leave RiD—to anyone who, for whatever reason, no longer wishes to post there, I wish you a fond farewell and hope you find better entertainment elsewhere.
And this temper tantrum behavior—sulking because "the other kids won't play the game you picked," which happens to be your favorite—should probably be left to playgrounds and other age-appropriate venues.
On this forum, nobody cares about your feelings.

That’s all from me.

It’s not just that they're mean—they're incompetent!

Look, I don't have an issue with moderating unnecessary chatter... in fact, I think those chats are great, but there has to be some kind of boundary.

Fine, so you read it. But tell me this: why isn't breastfeeding a top topic anymore? Nobody seems to have an answer for that. And why was the thread about basal temperature measurement on the Pregnancy forum merged with something else?
And it wasn't all bad, either. Sure, the Pregnancy forum (TZ) had its disastrous moments, but we also had those nights where we'd just talk endlessly about Nutella on a spoon... and what's wrong with that? As for WZ, there were certainly outbursts and drama, but if it weren't for those women, I probably would still be waiting for my baby to arrive...

🤦 Oh, come on, Mom!
Seriously, what is this mindset where moderators are treated like gods who are above any scrutiny or questioning of their decisions? Get real. 🙄Instead of constantly clashing and making life difficult for one another, we should really try working together—I truly believe everything would turn out much better if we did. I sincerely hope this becomes the case for everyone involved!

hollowtrucker77 said:The RiD is being monitored daily, and honestly, every single move made so far has been aimed at nothing but making this sub-forum better
plus, the moderators definitely know exactly what they’re doing and they aren't just winging it
it’s pretty obvious the old guard isn't thrilled about the changes, but let's be real—this place had reached a breaking point where a total overhaul was the only way out, especially since it had devolved into nothing but endless bickering and mindless chatter

I completely agree that things were pure chaos, but that doesn't justify every single move being made. I actually welcome the ban on casual chatting outside of designated chat threads, and honestly, even stricter moderation would be fine by me. However, that isn't an excuse for the Pregnancy section to stop being a top topic or for specific threads there to be shut down. These threads are being closed by users who simply don't grasp the nuances of the situation, only to go ahead and start new threads with introductory posts that are frankly just plain rude.

Personally, I fell out of the loop and ended up getting a warning for it, which is a first for me in three years—it’s a rare occurrence indeed.🙂 I used to be incredibly active in the Pregnancy section, especially over on WZ, and now I just browse the RiD for whatever catches my eye. The real issue started a while back when a traveler decided that the TZ should be a strictly themed chat area and banned all the random rambling. As a reaction, every thread turned into a general chat instead of staying specialized. To me, it doesn't look like you guys are improving the situation; it feels like we're reliving 2009, back when they shut down the Pregnancy section for Los Angeles! It’s just a cycle: users get angry, lash out, and start random new forums on the side, and then the whole sense of community is lost.

Joshua Jones13 said:They’re chatting in the designated chat thread, while staying strictly on-topic everywhere else. I guess that shows they actually respect the rules by not starting unnecessary threads just to talk.

But how does following those rules make them capable of moderating other PDFs? 😕😕

mellowraven22 said:The veteran mods can easily jump onto any other sub-forum without breaking a sweat. Even if there are slight differences in how things are handled, besides maybe the Off-Topic section and DIK, all the sub-forums basically follow the exact same playbook and stick to the same core rules.

Fair enough. But shouldn't the mods responsible for moving threads out of the top topic category or shifting posts from the main boards to the off-topic sections be somewhat active and actually familiar with the specific content of those boards? For instance, over on the RID board, a thread about breastfeeding moved from being a top topic to just being another ordinary discussion, getting lost in the shuffle. On the Pregnancy board, they closed the dedicated thread for basal temperature measurement and opened a new one that merged it with every other method. It used to be so easy to track someone's graphs and get help on the old BTT thread... then they make these changes that don't make any sense to me. At least, not to me. I'm quite active over there, so the change really stood out.

And can someone please explain the difference between the general chat and the topical chat? Is chat just aimless rambling, and if so, what's the point of having themed discussions?

Frank Moore4 said:Man, that's true. I totally agree. That's why the mods really should be the absolute best of the bunch—calm people who actually know how to contribute to a discussion with solid arguments.

On a slightly different note, it's worth mentioning that there are tons of high-quality members here who make massive contributions to specific sub-forums. The problem is, that effort often goes unnoticed by the leadership. I get that everyone can't be a mod, but it wouldn't hurt to introduce a "custodian" role for each sub-forum. It would be a way to recognize top-tier members (like Dragonrage in the movie PDF section). These folks wouldn't have the authority to hand out punishments or moderate behavior, but they could have the power to edit posts, stick threads, rename titles, split or merge topics, and stay on top of the latest news within their specific PDF to start new threads and keep the quality levels high. We've used a system like this on our SF forum for years now, and it’s proven to be incredibly successful and interesting. 🙂

I’m asking everyone involved in this process to walk me through the logic used to select moderators. How is it even possible for someone to show up as a moderator on a PDF when they barely ever post? It’s impossible for them to actually understand the flow and dynamics of our discussions if they aren't even active here.
These little spots always pop up right after I take a shower with water that’s just a bit too hot—specifically in areas where the spray hits directly or where the water tends to pool... I notice them on my knees every single time I get out of the shower...
Dealing with allergic rhinitis? in Health ·
I’ve spent quite a bit of time scouring this subforum hoping to find an existing thread on this topic, but I haven't had much luck. So, I’ll just lay out my situation here in the hopes that someone might be able to offer some guidance...
About four years ago, I caught a bad cold, and ever since that infection cleared up, my sinuses have simply refused to unblock. For three years straight, I found myself reaching for nasal drops every single night. During the day, once the afternoon rolled around, it felt like my airways were completely shut down. It wasn't even a matter of congestion or having stuffiness to blow out; it was more like the air just couldn't pass through at all, which created this intense, heavy pressure right under my cheekbones. Just one dose of drops would temporarily open things up.
Since I've dealt with various allergies since I was a kid, I naturally assumed this was just an allergic reaction—likely to dust. After I got married and moved into a new place, I finally upgraded to anti-allergy pillows and a specialized comforter, and for the first time in ages, I could actually breathe clearly. That relief lasted from the beginning of 2008 until late March of this year, when the pine pollen started blowing and triggered a full-blown allergic reaction. Now, I’m back to square one with all the same symptoms, and I’m honestly at a loss. My doctor suggested it’s chronic allergic rhinitis that persists year-round, recommending antihistamines and nasal sprays... but that doesn't feel like a long-term solution to me. To make matters more complicated, I’ve been trying to conceive lately. Once I get pregnant, I won't be able to rely on antihistamines (which barely work for me anyway) or those nasal sprays.

I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with something similar... and whether there might be any slightly more natural ways to manage this?
Thanks 😁😁😁😁
Ladies, if you find that your period is running late... please, just go out and buy a pregnancy test immediately. There is absolutely no reason to put yourselves through that unnecessary stress and anxiety.
This is certainly an intriguing topic to unpack... 1. Regarding gestational age, you typically won't see anything definitive on an ultrasound until the hCG levels cross that 1,000 mIU/mL threshold—which usually places you right around the six-week mark, or roughly 30 days after ovulation.
2. Furthermore, if you look at the fine print on almost any standard pregnancy test, the clinical recommendation is to wait until the day of your expected period; testing any earlier than that is often just guesswork and lacks real reliability.

3. I have to wonder: how long will it take to finally wrap this discussion up and reach a consensus? If I had to bet, I’d say we’ll have it all settled in two days tops.
