Has anyone here actually dealt with the Maletić clinic over in Madison before?
So, I’ve got my next appointment coming up with Dr. Grgica over at Vineyard.
Back about two years ago, I went to see Dr. Jurlin at the Mayo Clinic, and he told me straight up that I needed septum surgery—basically said my nose was way too "mountainous" and needed to be reshaped into something more "coastal." 😁But, you know, life happened, and because I was pregnant... I just couldn't go through with the surgery then. I guess I'm wondering if it's actually worth showing Dr. Grgica all the paperwork and notes from Dr. Jurlin, or if I should just start fresh? 😕
In the report, it says this:
macrorhinia and stenorhinia. Septal deformity on the right, type 5.
Could anyone maybe help me make sense of what that actually means? Dr. Jurlin wasn't exactly the most outgoing or chatty guy during our visit, so I'm really hoping things go a bit smoother when I talk to Dr. Grgica. 🙂
So, I’m finally jumping into this thread! About three years ago, I went in for an exam at the Holy Spirit hospital where they found a deviation, and they actually scheduled me for surgery in about eight months... but then, life happened, and I ended up getting pregnant in the meantime...
Now, in two weeks, I’m headed over to Vinogradski for a checkup with Dr. Grgica, so I guess we'll just see what he has to say about everything!
I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience working with him? I originally wanted to go see Dr. Kalodjer, but some people at the hospital suggested that Dr. Grgica might actually be the better bet for me.
Feel free to just send me a private message if that's easier 🙂
I’m just gonna head in whenever I feel like it, I guess.
Maybe around five in the evening, if everything goes according to plan.

I feel like there are plenty of other doctors out there who might be a much better fit for you. To be real, I don't think I'd just hand myself over to a surgeon if I didn't totally trust them first. So, if I were you, I'd maybe try seeing someone else for a second opinion before making a final call. And hey, if you have a deviated septum, I'm pretty sure Medicare would cover it.
I guess we'll see, maybe I'll head out for one more consultation with a different doctor, though I'm not really sure which one yet.
Since I have a deviation, I think Medicare should cover it.
Caos,
So, I just got back from my appointment with dr. Jurlin. I was scheduled for noon, and I actually walked into the office right at 12:00, which was honestly such a pleasant surprise.
But man, as soon as he saw me, his first comment was something like, "I can already tell you just want to look pretty!" I have to say, that kind of comment really rubbed me the wrong way.
I tried explaining that my nose shape isn't even the main issue for me—it's the fact that I seriously can't breathe through it—and he just goes, "Well, how else are you breathing then, honey??!!"
Anyway, after we talked on the phone a couple of times, he finally got up and actually took a look at my nose.
It turns out I have a deviated septum; I get a tiny bit of airflow through the right side, but the left side is totally deformed and I can't breathe through it at all. He said it makes total sense why I've been mouth-breathing this whole time. The only real option is surgery, where he’d need to widen my nostrils (he made some joke about turning a narrow hallway into a wide-open floor plan), straighten the septum, and maybe do some cosmetic work to shave down a little 3mm bump on the bridge.
He told me that if I decide to go through with the surgery, I should just call the office and ask for an appointment.
Ugh, I really need to sit with this and think about it, but I'm leaning towards just doing the surgery.
Does anyone happen to know how long the waitlist usually is for a procedure like this?
best,

Does anybody know where I can go to get that done?
I think there's a clinic over on 3rd Avenue, maybe around the 300 block or something like that.
The American Red Cross
Has anyone here ever gone to
www.mayoclinic.org for nose surgery???
I'm just a little confused about how it all works—like, I can't tell if this is part of the hospital system where they'd cover a deviated septum through Medicare, or if it's more of a private thing you have to pay for out of pocket.

Honestly, I’m dying to know this too...
I’m basically stuck deciding between Mercury or the Mayo Clinic right now...
A close friend of mine had surgery done by Dr. Fauci at the Mayo Clinic, and she’s actually super happy with how it turned out, but she only had the deviation fixed.
As for me, I can't breathe through my nose to save my life—it's all mouth-breathing for me—plus I have this pretty significant bump, so I guess I'd want to just get everything handled all at once if possible.

Also, I was wondering if I need to see an ENT first to figure out if I even have a deviated septum. I’m thinking about doing it that way just in case, because if I do, maybe insurance might cover it... but if it’s strictly cosmetic, does anyone know how much hospitals usually charge for that? And would I be stuck staying in the hospital for a few days, or can I just head home?😕
I've been wondering about this too, honestly.
Thanks

Since it's right there on my face, it really bugs me, and I'd love to just get it removed if there's any way to do that. I was wondering if anyone knows where the best place would be to go for something like this in a city like Chicago?
Man, I actually have one of those on my chin too, and it’s honestly such an annoyance.
I guess I wouldn't really know who to go to either, though maybe someone in NYC would be better.
