Optical vs. Laser mice: Which is better? in Computer Peripherals ·
Melissa Hernandez64 said:Like I said, I don't actually need a new mouse—I just picked one up recently and I'm loving it. I'm just checking in to see what kind of tech is out there now. And that $150 😲 one? Forget it. Even if it were solid gold, it’s still a no from me, no matter how fast or precise it claims to be. Anyway, thanks for all the input so far, moving on 😉 🙂... Anyone else got thoughts?

not really... hopefully you learned your lesson about cheap mice once and for all..

that $900 one though... that's probably the next move :P

if it actually lasts a lifetime 😂

Jacob Foster11 said:Oh, and while we're on the subject... I should probably recommend a solid mouse too. I've been using mine and honestly? Loving it. 🙂

Look, it's not like I'm suggesting some high-end overkill. There are mice twice this price out there. But for what you pay? This one is a total steal.

My Genius 555 works great for $40 me too... laser up to 3200dpi...
tons of buttons for custom settings 🙂

Jacob Foster11 said:Optical mice use an LED to track movement, while laser ones use a laser. The difference? Laser mice are usually more precise—meaning they have higher DPI. Another big thing: optical mice might struggle on shiny or glass surfaces, whereas laser mice can handle them just fine.

So what's DPI? It stands for "dots per inch." Basically, if a mouse has 800 DPI, moving it one inch means the computer registers 800 dots. But if you've got a 1600 DPI mouse, moving it one inch registers 1600 dots. Bottom line: to get the cursor to move the same distance on screen, you have to move the second mouse half as much. Or, in plain English, it's more sensitive (or faster).

If you're looking for a solid mouse recommendation at a decent price, try this one (only if you're right-handed!):

Girl bought it for $17 and lost her mind when she saw it for $67, and now you're trying to upsell her for $45 at Amazon? Plus, she's Melissa Hernandez64 :P

Melissa Hernandez64 said:I've got a Dell Monitor—nineteen inches. Honestly? Between that and the mouse we talked about, I’m set. The picture quality is actually great. Thanks for getting back to me, though. Could you do me a huge favor and translate this from English into plain American English? Some of these terms are flying right over my head. Half of it makes sense, the other half doesn't. Not everyone grew up taking English in school; some of us were stuck with German... 😉 😁

So, why aren't you saying anything?

It's just not working for me...

But the translation is:

Lasers are just more precise. If you're doing anything detailed—like digital art or photo editing—it’s a game changer. It's way easier to nail every single pixel with a laser versus an optical mouse. But honestly? Your average user probably won't even notice the difference. 🙂

800 or 3200 DPI... that's just dots per inch. Basically, how many dots it covers over an inch, right? So 1 inch on the pad equals 800 dots on the screen, or 1 inch equals 3200 dots...

If it's at 800, that's fine. A normal speed mouse for working on monitors up to 20"...
I keep mine at 1200 DPI, but I'm running a 23-inch monitor...

Bottom line? Higher DPI means a super fast mouse—one tiny nudge and it flies across the screen. Lower DPI makes it slower, which is actually better if you need precision. High speeds are for quick tasks where you don't care about being exact...

Lasers are more accurate. This will be very useful for anyone who does precise work, such as with art or photographs, etc. It is easier to move your mouse to the exact pixel with a laser vs an optical mouse. The average home user may not notice or need the difference.

p.s.
You mentioned seeing mice with four times the speed...

Check this one out :P

Just give them a call and ask.🤷

do $100
any shop in St. Louis
PCI slot

Just hit up any store in town and grab something. At this price point, does it even matter? It's all pretty much the same.😕

The best you can probably find for under $100 is an HD 4550, I think...

So this monitor is basically begging to be a 16:9 widescreen...
And since he won't let the idea go... I think it’s high time for an upgrade... 😁

If you're dead set on getting a CRT monitor, I'll trade you mine for a decent kebab 😁 Samsung 17-inch...

Maybe hit up a local repair shop and see what kind of damage they'd actually charge you...

Timothy Rivera5 said:@Bryan Evans77 - If I were grabbing two, I'd just get the same speeds -.-

Not that. I mean, what motherboard are you running?..

Take this one, for example.

One slot runs at 16x, while the second is stuck at 4x....

So basically, while the first card gets that full 16x speed, the second one is throttled down to 4x...

I'm talking about the PCI-E bus speeds on the board itself, not the card.
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
So you've got two risers for two cards. That's fine, I guess? But it all comes down to the bandwidth. If one is running at 16x and the other is stuck at 4x... you're losing juice right there. If you're actually willing to drop that kind of cash, go for it,
maybe try borrowing an 8800GT from someone first just to see how it feels. If you love it, stick with it. If not? Move on to something newer..

Personally, I’d probably just grab a 5850. I mean, can your CPU even keep up with a 5870? You'd probably need an i7 for that, and since you're rocking a Intel Core 2 quad 4 x 3.0, a 5850 seems like a much smarter play..
I put together a quick guide on how to grab stuff from torrents, find subtitles, and get everything sorted... It’s definitely not some polished professional production—just something I whipped up fast for one person—but it’s packed with screenshots and pretty thorough. If you actually follow it from start to finish, you should be able to figure it out on the first try. 🙂
So, if anyone's interested, here’s the MediaFire link...http://rapidshare.com/files/37575633...lmova.doc.html

p.s. I don't have a premium account, so the upload might take a bit.

"Hey everyone, looks like the server crashed again. We might have an idea why and we're looking into it, but honestly, we probably don't. No clue when things will be back up—just hang in there."

That’s pretty much the only thing I can think of that actually reflects what's happening. 😁

Could work. Honestly, better to lead with humor anyway. At least people won't lose their minds if they get a laugh out of it before coming back later..👍

Just tell them something like: "Sorry, we're doing some major maintenance on the forum; might be down until tomorrow, thanks for hanging in there!"
Then maybe they'll actually believe us. 🙂

That’s just a polite way of telling you to get lost, right? And don't even bother trying to reply—this forum server can barely handle your presence as it is. :P

Just wondering... what kind of wrenches are usually used on a bike? Didn't feel like listing them all out, so maybe someone here knows...
6, 5, definitely... and maybe a 4 or a 3 for the derailleur...

Anyone know what these go for here in the States?
I picked some up while I was traveling through Canada for next to nothing, so I'm curious 😁
Is $30 just one box?

p.s. Don't get any ideas, they aren't for me 😁
