Something isn't quite right. 😁

Well, damn. ☕

It looks like Felipe Massa just pulled a fast one on the presumptive champion.

I’m telling you—it was Felipe Massa. ☕

placidsurfer9 said:That’s how it was seen back then. They had inferior aerodynamics, relying much more on mechanical grip compared to today's likely heavier cars. So it stands to reason... modern cars lean so heavily on aero that if you lose speed significantly, performance drops off because there isn't enough downforce. They're lighter...

Don't modern cars actually feature more advanced—and ultimately far more efficient—suspension systems, both in concept and execution?

Well, unless we want to ignore Walmart's active suspension from twenty years ago. That's a debate all its own, I suppose.

And yeah, thanks a lot, Fox News fixed the glitch, whatever that actually means. I was honestly starting to worry I wouldn't even be able to watch the race.

That really depends on how the officials—and certain competitors—want to play it.

Just like everything else so far.

I caught it, thanks to some perfectly timed commercials.

Maldonado, as usual. ☕

Caught it just in time, thanks to some incredible timing.

Forget the race. Watching this drama unfold is way more entertaining. 🍿

Marquis handled that with pure class.

How about that, ladies and gentlemen? 😍

There’s no need to dwell on the past quite this much.

Take the 1996 US Grand Prix, for example.
I'm sure you can find it easily enough on YouTube or similar sites.

Once you find the race, take note of how many times they threw up the red flag.

Last year's US Grand Prix was the turning point. After that, the FIA, FOM, and the TV production crews basically realized they could stop the race whenever they felt like it, knowing the masses watching at home would forget it all happened by the next morning.

Just look back at the comments on this forum from that time.
At first, everyone was absolutely tearing into Charlie and Bernie, making every joke imaginable... only for that 2011 US Grand Prix to be hailed as one of the greatest races in history just an hour or two later.

Don't worry, though. The "clueless" drivers—aka the Formula 1 grid—have realized they don't actually need to risk spinning out or embarrassing themselves in front of a global audience. So now, we get the constant complaints about the track being like a lake or having zero visibility. It's always some apocalyptic drama.

It all started with last year's US Grand Prix, but I doubt it'll end with this year's United Kingdom Grand Prix.
Expect more red flags due to rain.

The absolute pinnacle of motorsport! 🙂

Raymond Anderson4 said:If they could manage it, why couldn't these guys? What kind of stupid opinion is that?

"Stupid opinion"?
I don't intend to sink to that level of discussion moving forward. I hope this is the last time you speak to someone like that. Let's stick to constructive, and more importantly, civil debate. 🙂

Now, regarding driving in the rain.

Twenty or thirty years ago, cars had inferior tires, aerodynamics were far less efficient, and drivers had to manually control things like throttle butterflies with their right foot. They used basic manual gearboxes and standard clutches. Back then, the cars were brutal machines that demanded absolute mental and physical commitment from the driver. Helmets were simple plastic shells with basic visors, and track drainage was... well, a rather abstract concept at best.

And yet...

Look at the facts: those drivers actually managed those machines under those exact conditions.

Someone clearly had a few too many drinks—was the rain somehow lighter back then? 🙂

With Groton stuck in the middle of the pack... expect nothing but chaos on the track. 😁

hollowhawk412 said:A modern F1 car? It’s basically a four-wheeled machine sitting incredibly low to the ground, fitted with massive, wide tires. That setup makes them extremely sensitive to standing water on the track.

Is a modern MotoGP bike rock solid in the rain?
Does a modern MotoGP bike feature a carbon fiber monocoque designed to protect the rider during high-speed impacts?
Are F1 drivers dying because they can't handle losing front-end stability?

Even so, these heavyweights hit the track and just bite at every single turn. Every meter of the circuit, they're struggling. And that front wheel? It’s practically airborne every time they floor it.

hollowhawk412 said:When you hit aquaplaning, there’s really nothing left to do. You’re just a passenger at that point. It’s a completely useless experience. The whole drive just turns into this desperate struggle to dodge tiny little puddles. What can you even do? Nothing. 🙂

That was a completely lackluster performance. Honestly, aren't the best races always the ones played out in the rain?

Someone’s being a real jerk between the two of us. Let me help you settle this dilemma once and for all—it isn't me.

As for me? I probably won't even bother watching. 🙏

Do you have cable? Maybe some Swedish channels? Can you even pick up anything from the neighbors?

It’s just not possible.

No, I don't. I can't.

😁

Maybe I could try catching some Italian stations, or just pray for some mercy from Vox once the Bolshoi Ballet finishes their set. 🙏

NASCAR is pure chaos right now, so I’m heading to the beach instead.

Rooting for Fernando Alonso at the PP. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2012 British GP @ Silverstone in Formula 1 ·
Oh yeah, the NASCAR guys don't mind a little rain.
Even after five or six spins, they still try to push those machines to the absolute limit.

Sure, they’re struggling for traction, the bikes are dancing all over the track, and downforce isn't even a factor since they're working with two wheels instead of four...

But they've got guts, unlike those F1 prima ballerinas.

What an avant-garde, brilliant idea. 🙏

It never would have crossed my mind.

Oh, right. I don't even have a computer or high-speed internet nearby. 🙏🙏🙏

So, here on my end, the local news station isn't showing the broadcast at all. It’s strange, really. Even though the scrolling ticker says it's live right now... 😁

Looks like we're in for some rainy qualifying sessions at Daytona International Speedway too.

Let's go Doctor!
