ruggedhawk20 said:Fresh pavement has zero grip, though. So yeah, it's actually slower right now—and it stays slow until the tires actually bite into it.

In theory? Yes.
But in practice, just like mellowtiger8 said, the bumps in the pavement are a much bigger headache for drivers than a lack of "rubber" (which the rain washes away every single time anyway).

And again, in practice, it all depends on the specific track.

Kyle Edwards5 said:Oh, sure. That’ll make comparing lap times a total nightmare..

New asphalt usually means more grip and more abrasion, unless I've got that backwards. 🤔
If that's the case, who knows if those hyper-softs will even last a single full lap... In previous years, even the ultra-softs were struggling to make it through a whole circuit here.

Not necessarily. Probably not.

Both.

mellowtiger83 said:I’m in agreement with Jason Campbell70. McLaren is going to leave you all in the dust, and based on his recent media availability, Alonso looks absolutely fired up—which is precisely when he becomes most dangerous.

Where on earth did I ever write something like that? 🤔

darkmarlin16 said:Shouldn't the HALO be standardized across the board?

The way I see it, Ferrari and Sauber aren't even running the same HALO setup as Mercedes or McLaren 🤔

The front wing is standardized now, so every team is running something different. Why even bother?

Raymond Anderson4 said:McLaren feels pretty basic, honestly—kind of uninspiring.
Prodromou mentioned that while the initial design looks a lot like last year's, they're aiming to roll out as many changes as possible for the season opener.

Exactly. It’s a massive issue when the car lacks any sense of inspiration.

Tyler Bennett5 said:While every other team is busy testing and running their actual current-year cars, McLaren will likely just stick with
last year's setup. They think three practice sessions will be plenty to get everything dialed in.
Of course, no team is going to show their full hand during these tests, but
any updates we see will mostly be cosmetic adjustments for the opening race once they've had a chance to work through the kinks.

If you want proof of how McLaren is working, look at the fact that Ferrari is copying them.
The engine was always a different story.

Linda Peterson43 said:They slimmed down the sidepods, and then compensated for that "lack" of fresh airflow by using that modification on the mirrors...

Not quite.
The side inlets were reduced at the expense of the central inlet, which has been significantly enlarged and split into three sections.
Basically, Ferrari just copied last year's Mercedes solution.

That alone speaks volumes about how effective it was.
As for the Ferrari rearview mirror setup? It's a marginal tweak that anyone could copy the moment they feel like it.

mellowtiger83 said:As per usual, there is no point in debating this. It doesn't matter if we're talking about Caster, Camber, toe-in, or toe-out; we are dealing with an utterly incoherent response to Tibi's question, and I don't expect you to grasp why.

If you look at the technical section of the GP1 forums from a few years back, you'll find all the actual answers. You also have your own share of gems there, so perhaps take a trip down memory lane.

Congrats!

mellowtiger83 said:Let’s sum this up: Tibi asks about the mechanics of the Mercedes suspension, and then ruggedhawk20 just blithely claims it's all about Camber.

But you all are clearly geniuses, please, do carry on.

Then, naturally, ruggedhawk20 concludes that he is somehow superior to other sim racers simply because he plays iRacing and happens to have a passion for expensive gear.

Bravo.

Congrats, you've officially made it to the finals for the dumbest post of the day.

And you're in it alongside the author of this piece:

Every single suspension setup involves Caster and Camber.

Which is pretty obvious from what was provided.

I don't see anything particularly different about the Ferrari compared to everyone else. Sure, it looks narrower than last year, but that could just be an optical illusion depending on the camera angle...
The only thing that looks truly unique is those fins, which probably act as some kind of air guide—looks like they follow the direction of the arrows in the photo...

though that's something other teams could probably copy pretty easily...

On the flip side, you've got the Mercedes suspension, which is absolutely one-of-a-kind and definitely isn't easy to replicate...

At first glance, I'd say Mercedes is better even if their engines have the same power and reliability—let alone if they actually end up being stronger in that area too...

The same logic applied to the McLaren rear suspension back in the '14 season.
Or even the Ferrari front end from '12.

The Mercedes approach is primarily logical; at first glance, it looks smart. Still, I’ll wait through the first few races before making a final call.

My apologies—the driver is good. Just one.

The second one? A total joke and a complete laughingstock.

Hands down the most beautiful Ferrari paint job we've seen in the last decade. No stupid experiments with black or white schemes this time.
It's a shame the actual car looks like absolute garbage.

Last season was nauseating enough, but this halo nonsense just completely ruined everything.

Mercedes played it smart over the winter. They focused on suspension tweaks to fix those flaws they were struggling with at the start of last year.
The engine is solid, the drivers are top-tier, and even if the aero isn't perfect right now—well, you can always refine and develop that throughout the season.

What exactly was wrong with what he said?
Caster and camber are basic concepts for anyone who has ever actually sat down to play a serious driving sim.

mellowtiger83 said:👍, you claim they were limited solely by the engine! How exactly do you intend to prove to me that Red Bull possessed the superior chassis and aerodynamics over the last two or three years?
And why do you hold this conviction that Newey is invincible and the undisputed best?

Child's play. At least two designers working in Formula 1 today are on par with Adrian Newey. At least two.

How many more points did Red Bull Racing rack up compared to the factory Renault team?

mellowtiger83 Asks:
And why exactly do you think Newey is invincible? Why assume he’s the absolute best?
What a joke! We're paying premium prices for this? There are at least two designers in Formula 1 right now who are on Adrian Newey's level. At least two!

Is he unbeatable? No, he isn't.
Is Formula 1 really that crowded with the same geniuses who have been designing winning cars for thirty years? Not exactly.

mellowtiger83 said:Nothing unusual here. It was bound to happen. It seems Adrian Newey just decided to copy Ferrari, likely because his creative well is running a bit dry in his later years.
I am looking forward to seeing what Mercedes, Ferrari, and Alfa bring to the table.

What really interests me is whether Mercedes will follow suit and start copying Ferrari too, given that all three cars have essentially become Ferrari clones now.

It also feels like your grasp of Formula 1 over the last five or six seasons hasn't gone much deeper than surface-level fanboying.

Adrian Newey wasn't some pure original even when Red Bull was stacking up titles.
Still, nothing stopped him from building absolute monsters of cars—machines that were only ever held back by the engine.

Then again, isn't it funny how the most innovative and original team of the last decade has also been the biggest laughingstock during that same period?
A star, written off, and hated.
Winning the biggest race in history, during his very last run.
It’s enough for a movie script.

And no, he didn't spend those few seconds absolutely destroying all the various Baloz types out there.
He should have just sprinted through the opening lap and completely crushed that British crowd.
