Handball World Cup: The Final Stretch in Other Sports ·
The French are unbelievable, and honestly, so are the officials who kept pushing them to the limit.

Disgusting.

Top-tier talent, an elite coach, and home-field advantage.

Pure class from Lino.
Adam Collins4 said:"Olympic" lifts and anything putting pressure on the knees or lower back are pretty much banned in gyms used by the French, Germans, or Danes...

And if you look at the Germans, they were the first to pull back... ditching the ergometers, quad machines, and stuff like that...

No matter how "good" the coach might be...😉

I won't say for certain that's the case, but it's incredibly hard to find any recent literature for training handball coaches where Olympic lifting is completely ruled out.
Even in the women's programs, they frequently mention:

I’ve seen plenty of American basketball players doing weighted exercises too. But then again, I also know of a world and European champion who was told by his coach, "Don't touch the weights, it'll just slow you down."
Walter Hughes53 said:What exactly do you mean by weight training?

A wide variety of movements, both weighted and unweighted. 😁
Mainly Olympic lifts and plyometrics.

But if you do them wrong... man.

Walter Hughes53 said:Because certain exercises drive explosiveness—cleans, snatches, jerks—but muscle balance matters just as much. If you lack that balance, you're asking for trouble. Your core needs to be in sync with your back, and your legs and hips play a huge role too.

Of course. That’s why I emphasized finding a good coach.
Adam Collins4 said:But how is that going to affect his motor skills and explosiveness?

Hitting the "gym" should actually improve his motor skills and explosiveness.

Provided he has a solid coach, of course.
Joseph Kern5 said:Well, that explains why he’s spent his career at major European clubs. PSG, FC Barcelona, Kiel, Flensburg—they all saw that cunning of his.🙄 He hasn't left New York yet. He has this vibe of a nice, local kid with a pleasant last name, so why not let him stay? Is the player actually that good?

Come on, yesterday they replayed that footage of his last goal against the Spaniards at least 20 or 30 times on RTL.
Horvat deserves a lot of credit for us even reaching the semifinals.

But look, just like with Roberto Baggio back in '94, someone has to vent their frustration.
And just like in that situation, it was a single defender who "set up" Baggio for that moment, leaving him to face that deciding penalty.
Kenneth Clark18 said:Who would you trust to take a penalty kick? The news sites are already full of absolute garbage opinions.

They’d be screaming "Zlajo Care !!!" just the same if he had actually scored.

Whatever. Forget them.

Casey White13 said:The guy who took it, obviously. He was clearly the only one with any guts on the field. Missing a shot happens—it's not a first or a last time thing. After all, footballing legends have won World Cups for Italy back in '94..

What's funny is—he didn't.
But the comparison is spot on. It crossed my mind immediately. 😁

One missed penalty, and you go from being a national hero to a total tragic figure.
Walter Hughes53 said:Does anyone happen to know the name of that song they play constantly? You know the one where the crowd just takes over. It isn't "Seven Nation Army" or that other anthem.

Bishop's legacy. 🙏🙏🙏
It wouldn't have been right if we had moved on.
To win the World Cup on a questionable refereeing call?
I don't think even the Lady would approve of that.
The Norwegians stepped up when it actually mattered, while our guys just folded under pressure like they always do.

My only regret is that we even had to go into overtime.
The Americans could use an extra day of rest; things are about to get ugly.
Harold Long21 said:Stepancic could end up being even bigger than the spear throwers.

Could he?

Yeah, guys, tomorrow night we’ll either be celebrating or mourning.
Winning the bronze against the Americans matters more than all those deep tournament runs and silver medals combined.
The same goes for a loss, obviously.
I’m not satisfied.

Norway = a shallow stream

We're fueling up and heading to Canada.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
Only 13 minutes in, and we've already let in two goals.

A total black hole, but specifically for the Gitano community. 😂
