I don't have the stuff from Vanguard... but jasmine will get those other documents together and send them over in the next few days...

We’re heading out to Tulsa tonight... you should come along if you aren't too busy with more important things. 😉

Haha... I didn't exactly nail that end zone touchdown either...

There are some great shots... we'll shoot them over to your email... don't be too shocked when you see them... there's plenty of ridiculous, drunken nonsense in there. 🙂 😱 🙂

The Real Things said:Alex Scott22, if you want to catch us on a small stage, come by Shoto Club in San Francisco on January 6th. We're playing with Thunderbabies, and we’re going to set that stage on fire. It'll finally prove once and for all that there are actually great bands in the US. 😉

Hehe 🙂
In the meantime, I actually saw you guys on a small stage... at a place called MKNŽ in Bistrica, hehe.
And... what can I say? Americans finally have a real band again. 🙂
🙂

And we are here, lacking a band from your generation...

Btw. @ Gerald Robinson3

Alex Rogers91 wasn't talking about HIM from Finland... there's another one.... 🙂

Every The Damned fan knows which one is best. 🙂

(unless maybe it's "anything")

Hey, have you ever heard that gothic horror track? Eloise, I think it was called. 😱

It’s from when Vanian stopped acting like a normal guy—you know, the kind of guy who follows God's orders like Dracula... and turned into, man... I don't even have the words... with that raccoon-eye look and that post-Baroque outfit.

Here are my top picks for band transformations where, for reasons I still can't quite wrap my head around, they ditched their original sound to chase a completely different vibe—and ended up spiraling into pure boredom:

1. The Damned

What do you guys think about these "flops"?

I wasn't even talking about country music... I meant that American rock with a folk groove... that whole Boston scene and stuff... that kind of thing was huge back in the late eighties.
.. it was everywhere, from the TV screens to the local bars.

Yes and no.🙂

A lot of younger people today are really into them... like when someone plays Teenage Kicks out at a club in New York City. They definitely hold their own status.🙂

Take Nirvana, for example. By all accounts, they should have been my generation's anthem... but I didn't really get into them until later. It was hard to "bring myself down" to Nirvana when I was already listening to Sonic Youth and Joy Division.

Then there’s the current obsession with folk-rock here on the forum. If you grew up in the US during an era where that stuff was everywhere, you just can't embrace it, even as a joke. For a kid like me, those were real traumas. You'd get beat up or looked down on by the local crowds just because you wore a black t-shirt with a band logo on it—total truth.🙂 Or you were just bombarded by that specific sound on the radio and TV every single day. It was exhausting.

Susan Clark10 said:New Order is easily a hundred times better than Joy Division

blasfemija 😱

New Order is just a damn pop band... and fine, they're good at it... but... but... 🙂

Anyway, regarding Bauhaus:

Bauhaus : Hollow hills Hollow hills Witches too and goblin too and speckled sills Lament repent oh mortal you sol sad sol
Hollow hills
Witches too and goblin too and speckled sills
Lament repent oh mortal you
So sad
So sad

What kind of vibe is this? Lord of the Rings?

I mean, sure... I can handle some of their stuff out in the wild, like She's in Parties...

Susan Clark10 said:can you explain point number 3? 🙂

🙂

Yeah, I figured someone would come after me for mentioning Bauhaus... 🙂

It’s hard to put into words... the sound feels somewhat artificial... and honestly, the lyrics have started feeling empty to me...

Don't back away just yet

Isn't that a bit pretentious?

Nicholas Perez33 said:Are there actually any recordings of London SS?

There's a demo from '75 featuring James, James, and Jones 🙂

Jones Manje-vise did some covers of 60s beat groups... plus a few of their own originals. It’s not impossible to find (there's one compilation on cassette)

It isn't mind-blowing, but obviously, they're on the list because of the bigger picture..

Alex Rogers91 said:Has Jim Morrison ever listened to that dark unknown guy?????

Haha, I actually had this beat-up cassette of The Beatles that Jim Morrison recorded over for me... I played that thing on loop for months. Forgive me, I was only 12 at the time... but look... listening to that junk when you're 12 in 1985 isn't the same as listening to it in, say, 1993, right? 🙂 It was basically just hype back then... haha, what kind of luck were we born into? (The US and Canada)🙂

Here are my top three old-school bands whose recordings have aged like fine wine... these albums still sound incredibly ahead of their time, almost avant-garde even now:

1. Cream
2. Doors
3. Bauhaus 😬

For instance, stuff from Cream 2. Doors 3. Bauhaus npr. Roxy Music, Bowie-Ziggy, and Sabbath still feel totally fresh and alive to me today.

3. Johnny moped 2. Eater
2. Eater
1. 1. The Adverts 2. gang of Four 3. radio Birdman

(Or maybe just a list to impress Alex Scott22, but I actually mean it)😁

Haha.. 🙂

Man, if The Adverts were around today, they’d run the show. They would have absolutely crushed all that hyped-up Jejes, Hajvs, and Strajps stuff. Their sound is just so fresh and timeless...

Here are my top 3 old-school bands that still sound like they recorded everything in the mid-2000s:

1. 1. The Adverts 2. gang of Four 3. radio Birdman
2. 2. gang of Four 3. radio Birdman
3. 3. radio Birdman

stormyviper11 said:Why does everyone think of kids whenever the word "alternative" comes up?
It’s just a stupid term... 🙂

Stupidly vague, like calling something "democracy," right? 🙂

stormyviper11 said:And obviously, here’s the kicker—how can you even call it an alternative list without Bulldozer? They fit every single criterion perfectly, probably even more so than bands like Hladno Pivo or Motherfucker...

Look, these are just my personal top lists. I'm not trying to be some critic here.
By the way, I find Bulldozer a bit exhausting. 🙂

stormyviper11 said:An alternative to what? Mainstream music, the established scene, social circles...?
Or is "alternative" just a label for anything that isn't popular?

Basically, it's pointless.

Hold on.. this was an album selection, not a list of bands. At certain points, some of those bands released a good or even great album based on our PERSONAL taste—mine and Kevin Chavez3's—that we could classify as alternative. By that, I mean being ignored by the media, having cult status locally or slightly wider, or just having a musical style that differs from the "norm." Why does everyone immediately jump to talking about youth when they use the term "alternative"?
