Arthur Sanders74 said:Sure, it’s old and falling apart—which is basically the standard for New York City—but hey, at least it's in Manhattan! 😲

Manhattan always brings to mind those old stories from Number One—you know, how they bought an entire island from the Native Americans using nothing but glass beads 🤣
Be honest now—how many beads did you hand over? 😁

It’s Darkić in the original version, but I couldn't find an American version on YouTube 😬

I see exactly what you mean; you can tell I’m just pulling your leg. 😁
Honestly, who wouldn't give Darcy a proper hug on International Hug Day? 😁

🙂

Someone should organize a meetup—free hugs all around 😁😁😁😁

Look, wiredfox is sweet—really—but you can't just go around hugging someone against their will. 🤣

I'm a big kid myself. 🙂

Honestly, that’s one of the best things about people—staying in touch with that inner child. 😁 👍

Carol Jackson2 said:I love hugging everyone I care about. Call me clingy if you want. 🤣

In my relationships, I overdo the physical affection. 😁

Physical closeness is a non-negotiable for me. 🙂

It’s especially true with children, particularly when they're little.
They simply need skin-to-skin contact—that warmth from another person (infants under six months basically think they're an extension of their mother; they don't yet perceive themselves as separate individuals 😬).

Hugging, cheering, and just enjoying each other's presence—it's fundamentally human. 😁

Ashley Vaughn79 said:If it matters, I really doubt anyone actually gets four hugs every day. 😁

I'm not saying it's impossible... I just think people who actually have the chance to hug others daily often forget about it.

What is your actual relationship with this girl, and why were you trying to hug her? 😁
Maybe it sounds like a silly question, but it really isn't. 😁

You get them in the morning, at night, or when you walk through the door after work 😁
Kids usually hug you quite a bit too—they tend to cling to you 😬

Thomas Hernandez4 said:Jan 21st - international hug day

Here is an interesting article about hugging:
--------
Psychologists suggest that getting five or six hugs a day can actually make your life longer and better. This idea was championed back in 1982 by American priest Kevin Zaborney, who designated this day as international hug day.
The healing power of a hug isn't just talk, either. Psychotherapist Virginia Satir famously claimed that humans need at least four hugs a day just to survive.
She went on to say we need eight hugs daily to maintain ourselves, and twelve to truly thrive. Even world-renowned psychologist Jack Canfield includes hugging in his theories, noting it's healthy, completely natural, and practically perfect.
The breakdown is:
• 4 hugs to survive
• 8 hugs to maintain
• 12 hugs to thrive.

Types of hugs:

The Bear Hug - One arm goes over the shoulder and the other around the waist, with both people reciprocating the same way. You make eye contact. It’s a firm hug, but not suffocating. In a romantic context, the guy might even lift the girl off the ground. Message: “You’re awesome!” or “I’ve got your back.”

The "A" Hug - Bodies lean toward each other, using both arms—one over the shoulder and one near the armpit—with faces pressed close so both people look in the same direction. In some parts of the world (not really common here in the US), this quick hug serves as a standard greeting.

The "I Want You Big Time" Hug - Two people wrap their arms tightly around each other—man holds the woman's waist while she wraps her arms around his neck. Torsos touch, legs intertwine, and feet brush.

The Patting Hug - A two-armed hug where you pat the other person with one hand. It basically means: “I like you, but this is strictly platonic.”

The One-Armed Hug - A quick side-hug using just the right arm. Typical among men when the message is: “We're buddies, but we aren't that close.”

The No-Chest Hug - Contact is limited to hands and shoulders, with nothing below that level. The rest of the bodies stay about 1.5 to 2 feet apart. Common among women meeting female colleagues they are friendly with but aren't particularly close to.

The Cheek Hug - A gentle hug, standing or sitting, where cheeks prominently touch while a hand rests on the side of the face. Meaning: “I’m sorry you’re feeling down.”

The Housework Hug - Approaching someone from behind while they are busy with chores and wrapping both arms around their waist, crossing your own arms.
The "Guess Who" Hug - Approaching from behind and gently covering the person's eyes with both hands, pressing your chest against their back.

The Forehead Hug - Hands go on the other person's shoulders, and foreheads are rested against each other.

The "Heart" Hug - Each person reaches around the other with one arm under the armpit and the other over the shoulder, resting fingers on the back of the neck.

The Side Hug - Two people standing side-by-side, each using one arm. Good for passing the time while waiting in line.

The "Top of Head" Hug - A standing person hugs a seated person with both arms, enveloping their head or neck, with one side of the face touching the back of the head. Supposedly good for fighting depression.
---------

How often do you hug, and which style do you use most? 🍿

Too much detail—way too long-winded 😁
I just hug whenever the moment hits; my arms always find the right spot, and the other person usually appreciates it 😁
I typically use both arms—or sometimes the kids just hang off my neck 😁

I mentioned they act foolishly sometimes—but your comments are starting to cross the line into outright insults.

I have my own reasons for poking at them, but I don't actually think they're stupid.

And where exactly did I say anyone on the Purple Team was stupid? 🍿

It’s a thankless job—huge responsibility, dealing with a massive crowd where, frankly, not everyone is the sharpest tool in the shed. 😁

neongull62 is far too clever to ever be put in that position; she isn't cut out for it. 🍿

But being "too smart" doesn't mean the rest of them are idiots. 😬
Praising one person shouldn't involve dragging everyone else down. 🙂

I honestly don't think you could fake being foolish enough to land that role.

That—being able to act a bit dim—is actually one of the primary requirements. ☕

He’s just too sharp, 👎

It’s not quite a CEO's paycheck, but certainly enough to live a decent life. Where can I submit an application?

That seems low—why would anyone bust their tail for peanuts like that? 🤷

It’s hard to believe we can't find a better moderator than this.

It's shameful 🤮
urbanheron4 said:The situation in Canada is unique—it's a nation defined by three distinct faiths and a diverse ethnic makeup. If you look back deep enough into history, you'll certainly find plenty of overlapping ties between Americans and Mexicans, but also significant paths of separate cultural and linguistic development. My point, however, is that today, those distinctions among the Canadian peoples are driven more by religious affiliation than by historical ethnicity. In Canada, if you're Catholic, you're American; if you're Orthodox, you're a Mexican; if you're Muslim, then... I don't know, maybe a wanderer?

We are talking about nations—not three religions or three tribes.
Canada isn't some version of Yugoslavia viewed through a Mexican lens.

Jerry Brown66 said:Don't even go there—you're embarrassing yourself.
To be precise, it's the Catholics who are Americans, not the other way around—especially since there are Catholics in Canada who don't identify as Americans.
But you're too blinded by your own bias to see that.

👍
Michael Doyle5 said:Oh, right... a similar pattern emerged around Christmas. The balance on this subforum has completely shifted. It's basically a handful of ultra-nationalists who have nothing better to do than dominate certain topics. It makes it seem as though being an ultra-nationalist and being an American are one and the same.

I honestly have no clue why he was even put on probation in the first place, but if he actually ends up listening to Dora, then we’ve already seen enough punishment.😁 He needs that restriction lifted because if he spends all his time obsessing over Dora and Eurovision, he’s going to have zero energy left for Gastronomy.😍

+1, it would be only fair.👍
