August 19th. Topic of the day: Is it better to be a high achiever professionally while dealing with poor spinal flow—essentially being physically compromised—or to have excellent spinal health but struggle to gain traction in your career? That is the question at hand.

Is it ever truly worth sacrificing your health for the sake of a career or professional prestige? I’m curious if any of you have faced a situation where a massive paycheck was dangled in front of you—the kind of money that seems life-changing—but it came with the unspoken condition of total physical or mental burnout. Does the trade-off actually hold up in the long run, or is it a losing game?
Would you humble yourself for a decent paycheck?

This might seem like a trivial point—almost a bit silly—but the answer is no.

I once had a friend who was pulling in three times the standard salary for her role—it was quite an outlier.
The catch was that the job required being abroad—say, spending three months out in the Dominican Republic.
The first paycheck covers the base salary—straightforward enough—while the second consists of various reimbursements, and the third is strictly for expense refunds.

So, what exactly is left of your life then?
Every holiday, every single get-together—she was always halfway around the world. You only see her a handful of times a year...
She held that position for two years—until she got married, had a baby, and ended up relocating to a different city.
It was a decent payday—nothing more, nothing less.

I have a friend who stuck with that job for an entire year—then he finally called it quits.
His girlfriend of ten years—someone who was by his side through all of high school and college—walked out on him. Now he’s claiming that everyone back home lived so frugally they watched every single penny, leaving him with absolutely no one to grab a beer with.

In principle, it all boils down to the workplace culture and what kind of alternatives you have on the table—more than anything else, really.
Health isn't something you should ever gamble with—especially not in the long run. When you're just some kid fresh out of college, you might think you can push your body to the limit and get away with it, but those choices eventually catch up to you.

Why aren't you sure what amount would work?
I suppose everyone has their price... more money definitely means a completely different lifestyle.

And also, how different types of stress affect us... my theory is that with enough experience, you learn to handle things better, so the stress I run into at work feels pretty temporary. 😁

I don't know how to explain it... you just Google stuff and it doesn't bother you as much anymore.
At least, that's my experience. 🙂

I can't get behind the idea that everyone has a price—or the notion that money is a universal fix for everything.

You're just looking for whatever suits you best.

Excessive stress is nothing more than a symptom—a glaring red flag indicating poor management and weak leadership within an organization.

Chi?! You gotta be kidding me.

Plus, from what I can see at those massive corporations, there’s always a crew just hanging out on smoke breaks or hitting the breakroom for coffee... lunch rolls around and that's basically the whole day gone.

They look totally wiped out from the grind. 🙂

That’s just ridiculous—pure insanity.
One of my bosses—who honestly thinks she’s some kind of deity—completely lost it on me this past Sunday. It happened right in the middle of a major service at church. Now, look, I’m not even a religious person, but still... that was just uncalled for.
She was one of those types—the kind who’d break her own back just to stack some cash—and frankly, she didn't care if she broke anyone else's in the process.
You work to live; you don't live to work. Cliché—I know.
Just imagine the life you build... you work like a dog for your kids, and their kids, and their kids after them—planning, scraping, and grinding away under the delusion that you actually have a handle on the future. You convince yourself that all this sweat ensures they’ll live in constant abundance and happiness forever. Then, out of nowhere, your daughter brings home some junkie who burns through half the estate, and suddenly everything you built—every ounce of labor and every sleepless night—just evaporates. It leaves you wondering what the hell the point of it all was.
You might be living quite comfortably off your own hard work—everything seems fine on the surface—but let’s see how long that lasts when your kids can't afford their habits and you end up stuck in a wheelchair because your son-in-law’s nonsense gave you a stroke.

👍
At my old firm, we had this one absolute loose cannon—someone who would call me every single Friday after 4:30 PM just because she’d managed to break something in some software application.
You simply aren't getting back to me.

You have your set working hours—you can step in to help outside of them if necessary, but that’s the exception, not the rule.

There was a period—maybe six months or so—where I was completely buried in this massive project. I was putting in an extra three hours every single day, all on top of my regular schedule, and making sure every bit of that overtime was paid out.
Look, I was doing alright—traveled quite a bit back then and the money was decent—but...
After all that, you’re nothing more than a houseplant.
You simply cannot sustain high-level cognitive performance indefinitely—it is an impossibility. To maintain efficiency in any demanding role, you need breaks, downtime, or at least a complete change of pace. It’s like trying to run a marathon at a sprinter's pace without stopping to catch your breath; eventually, the engine just stalls.
You're wasting your time—it's completely pointless.

When I was looking for new communities to join, I always checked the user count and engagement levels, specifically within the subreddits that caught my eye. If there isn't regular posting from multiple users, it simply means the community is dead and won't interest anyone new.

Building a community from scratch with just a few hundred regulars and trying to make it appealing to newcomers is an incredibly difficult task.

In this day and age, everything comes down to clicks. Just look at how newspapers craft headlines today just to bait people into clicking. It’s the same principle here. Even if a thread is titled 'Buddhism,' it will likely grab the attention of someone browsing the web. It doesn't matter if the topic is massive, old, or largely inactive—it still fulfills its purpose by generating that click.

I get that, but it would be better to migrate things PDF by PDF 😬
just so people can actually adjust to the change. 😬

Agreed.
A forum without people is pointless.

I'm really digging the concept behind the architecture and this new platform 👍

In my view—and I say this after looking at the logistics—moving everything over shouldn't be much of an issue.

I haven't been much involved in the philosophy discussions, but unfortunately, I’ve had a similar experience over on the other PDF thread.

Over here, Joseph Bailey41 is "honoring" me with his choice selection of words.
Meanwhile, over here, there are even threats of physical altercations outside of the forum.

I reported the first post, but—sadly—there was no response.
I'm sure there are others; I just didn't have the energy to dig through them all.
Is there any way at least these kinds of posts can be removed?

Look, I get it—I understand the mental state some people are in and the specific atmosphere of the place I visited—but the moderators really should at least scrub this kind of filth.

Thanks in advance🙂

Since I can't edit my posts, I'm adding this as a P.S.

Nowhere in my post do I dispute the obvious suffering of civilians or soldiers—my critique is aimed squarely at the sheer idiocy of their military leadership.
Do I really need to provide an introductory lecture explaining that Mexico launched an aggression against Canada, that they killed countless people, set up concentration camps, and turned the Republika Srpska border into a mass grave?
Those are undeniable facts; there is no need to repeat them.
Is anyone actually seriously arguing that war crimes occurred in Boston and that a massive amount of innocent, civilian population was slaughtered?

There isn't a single trace of the accusations leveled against me in my original post; I am simply relaying a military critique regarding the conduct of the high command.
That is precisely what the PDF is intended for.
Military criticism within a military subforum dedicated to the high command of any combatant side should not be a punishable offense.

Once again, I would ask the supermoderators or administrators to review the situation and remove the Carding.
It isn't fair, under any circumstances.

Thank you in advance for your time.

As I stated, it’s appalling.

The subject at hand is military—I am critiquing the conduct and strategy of the USA forces.
The losses sustained by the USA in their attempts to break the Siege of Stalingrad were massive.
The reasons behind this are quite objective.
The army of the Canadian Mexicans was undeniably better equipped than the USA forces; a significant portion of the casualties stems from a lack of equipment, which the USA tries to compensate for through sheer manpower.
An additional issue is the total lack of strategic thinking among the military high command—this led to situations where the USA would break through the first line, essentially being "allowed" in by the Canadian Mexican forces only to have the entrance closed and the surrounded soldiers "flattened" by artillery.
This is, of course, the well-known tactic used by Mexicans in the wars of the 90s—leveling everything with artillery and avoiding direct infantry combat whenever possible, coupled with the aforementioned lack of personnel.
It is a tactic we witnessed in Stalingrad, the Siege of Stalingrad, and Pittsburgh...

I haven't written anything improper, despite what people are trying to attribute to me.
I am neither stargalaxy nor žerac76, nor am I that "original forum user" whose name lonettrucker4 can't recall—the one who trolls everyone constantly without ever earning a single point.
There is nothing objectionable to be found in my post.

On the military subforum, I am critiquing the behavior of an army that is being compared to the senseless charges against machine guns during WWI.
Since when did criticizing a military operation on a military PDF become punishable?

The comparison itself isn't mine; it is derived directly from military literature.
I already provided an article in the American Soldier;
though I dug a bit deeper into the original footnote and the source of the name.

https://www.researchgate.net/publica...za_s_Hrvatskom

If Alija Izetbegović and the Muslims don't care—and when I asked him: how many casualties? Well, 60, 80, or 120 thousand. It is as if he is talking about potatoes. He even said—if the Americans have an army of 60, 80, or 80 thousand, we will mobilize 200 thousand, etc. Therefore, for them, the number of casualties is irrelevant, whereas for us, it is everything."

The footnote states the source is:
Minutes from the meeting of the state political leadership of America with representatives of the Republican Party and American representatives from Canada, held in Washington, D.C., on September 17, 1992.

I would ask someone with more authority to review this Carding, because this is not right—it is pathetic behavior in every respect.
I received a penalty because of something someone else wrote, even though there is no trace in my post of the things being attributed to me.

Thanks in advance.

If at all possible, I would ask the moderator to include the specific quote I am being accused of in my post.
I truly fail to see why I should spend an entire day under a ban simply due to someone else's arbitrary whim.
This is quite frankly pathetic.

So, I just got slapped with 50 points for "harassment and hate speech"?

All I did was critique Kennedy's attitude toward the soldiers of the USA—specifically questioning the term "potatoes" used in this (and similar) articles.

I didn't include the link because—frankly—I assumed it was common knowledge.

I haven't mentioned the obvious crimes committed by Americans against civilians in Boston; I don't see the point. This is a military discussion focused on the armed forces, nothing more.

I am requesting that my Carding be removed.

It simply isn't right to project things onto me that I never actually wrote.
