Looking for a good video capture program? in Software ·
Benjamin King2 said:Take a look at the settings within Pinnacle when you start a capture; you'll need to adjust the output format and resolution somewhere in there. Try running the capture again using MPEG-1 at a 640x480 resolution. That should bring your file size down to roughly 30 MB per minute, which would mean about 5 GB for a three-hour session.

Well, I went ahead and tried to squeeze 10 GB of data onto a 4.7 GB disc—talk about an ambitious failure on my part!

I'm not entirely sure about my setup since I'm routing everything through an analog input straight to the card—basically recording it like a live TV broadcast. Now, how on earth am I supposed to burn those 9 or 10 GBs? It's a three-hour stretch, and the format is AVI.

Benjamin King2 said:I was wondering what specific format we're looking at here—what's the video resolution and total file size? Honestly, since we're dealing with VHS resolution, there isn't much point in trying to capture anything higher than 640x480.

For a three-hour stretch, I usually end up with something right around 9 GB.

Benjamin King2 said:Well, if you use Penny, you can just transcode that into an AVI or whatever file format you're looking for. 😕

The thing is, the file size is quite massive, so I'm honestly not sure if it'll even fit on a standard DVD...

I've finally managed to sort out that previous issue, so now I'm on the hunt for some software that can compress a four-hour video file. Once that's done, my goal is to burn it onto a DVD. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Taylor Brooks3 said:I just need to figure out how to capture my footage. My goal is to transfer everything from my VCR onto my computer, and once it's safely stored there, I plan to burn it onto a DVD using Nero.

Right now, I’ve been trying to use Penny, but I can't seem to get a clean transfer; it keeps dropping frames or skipping bits of the video. It’s a bit frustrating! I’m really just looking for a simple program that handles the actual capture process from the VCR to the PC without any bells and whistles or fancy editing. I don't need any processing—I just want a perfect digital copy on my hard drive so I can eventually burn it to a disc with Nero.

Thanks so much!!

If I understood you correctly, you're looking for software to grab still frames from movies??

Image Grabber II

Or are you trying to record your actual desktop screen?

Snagit

I actually need it for capturing video. I want to transfer content from my VCR onto my computer, and then burn that footage onto a DVD using a blank disc.

I have a question regarding the subject line.

I seem to be running into a bit of a snag while trying to process my video files. I keep getting hit with this particular error message: http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?i...nnacle1dx7.jpg Does anyone happen to know what might be causing this, and more importantly, how I can go about fixing it?

Thanks so much!!

It wasn't an issue for me because I was used to the American interface and found it much easier to navigate... but if anyone happens to know anything useful...
Thanks!

The full version is right here, and it's about 968 MB in size.

Have you actually read the rules? Honestly, I'm going to have to 🙂 report you for posting illegal links.😬

Intel is actually just the processor guys...
those are really the only two major players left in the graphics market...

Oh boy, I honestly have such a soft spot for people who miss the point like you do... let me try to clarify what I actually meant:

1. Intel - my CPU
2. Nvidia - my GPU

Is there really a misunderstanding here??😕

However, I've run into a few recent movies that it just can't seem to rip.

Does anyone know of a newer program for decoding films?

How do I update my BIOS? in Software ·
If you haven't spent much time tinkering under the hood, my best advice is to leave the BIOS alone if everything is running smoothly. Honestly, if things are working perfectly, don't go poking around—you might end up regretting it later!
