Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·

Just as bad as Vista.

...that "Preparing your desktop" screen hangs for like 40 seconds😲 during startup; just a classic Windows 7 glitch if you happen to be using a solid color background...

...Man, this OS is taking forever to boot up... I type in my password, wait a few good seconds, and then it just sits there on "Preparing your desktop." Like, what the hell is that even supposed to mean, and why does it need so much time?

I was messing around with computers back when you weren't even a thought! Why are you even coming at me instead of the guy above me? And how would you even know what I'm running on my rig? Give me a break! You're just part of that internet generation 😛
Where were you when we were busy rocking the Spectrum, Commodore 64, or the Schneider CPC464 back in '83? This was long before the internet was even a dream. Seriously, if you're gonna try to mess with me, maybe go learn how things actually work first 😛

..did it all on the Spectrum, the Commodore, even the Galaxy, back when we had to type out games and programs from actual paper...

I guess some people just won't ever get past the pretty icons and wallpapers, right? Long before Windows 7 even dropped, I was busy pushing Vista to its absolute limits on basic hardware just to see what it could do. If more folks actually messed around with the OS itself instead of just clicking things and chatting on forums, they might actually learn how stuff works. But hey, if you prefer scrolling through those sketchy, modified ISOs you find online...
When exactly are you guys going to stop waiting for some magical patch to fix everything? These systems are basically designed for people who can barely operate a toaster or some clerk at a local DMV...

Vista + sp 2 = Windows 7

Check out my C: drive screenshot.
So, Windows 7 (32-bit) takes up over 8GB, while those random files account for another 5.8GB just for the OS itself. Basically, you'll need at least 16GB, though I'd recommend aiming for 20GB to be safe.

A lot of people on these forums download all sorts of sketchy, ripped junk from the web and then wonder why their system is acting up. You really need a clean version—ideally an original ISO or at least a decent crack from someone who actually knows what they're doing.😢
That's where all the issues in those posts above are coming from..

Everyone keeps saying Windows 7 only takes up about 5 or 6 GB of space, but I decided to mess around with the 32-bit Professional version yesterday and it’s sitting at a solid 8 GB on my drive.

I'm still sticking to my guns on that one.👎

I totally agree; Windows Vista was a complete disaster. Honestly, it deserves an award for being the ultimate masterclass in repackaging the exact same old stuff and selling it back to us as something new.
I've gotta hand it to those Microsoft marketing managers—they really nailed it. Don't you just love when they get it right?

Terry Booth45 said:Look man, Windows 7 came out just two months ago, while XP has been around for over a decade. XP already has three service packs, whereas 7 hasn't even had one yet. You can't expect a brand-new OS to be perfect right out of the gate, right? Just hang in there—once the first service pack drops, it’ll be golden...
YOUR ISSUE AS YOU PUT IT: "The worst part is: 'do you want to investigate why the system crashed' and then having to 'approve this or that" You can actually tweak things so it stops asking you all that stuff, but those prompts are really just there for your own security... maybe do a little Google searching on Windows 7 and you'll find some cool tips...

Windows 7 is giving me a hard time too. I installed the 64-bit version and the audio keeps crackling, even with the official Realtek drivers from my laptop manufacturer's site meant for 7. I tried deleting them and letting Windows install the standard driver, but I still get occasional crackling and "not responding" errors. It's pretty new, so we have to realize it isn't fully polished yet—just like XP wasn't perfect even after ten years. That's about it, buddy... cheers!

Not a friend... a friend! Honestly, 7 is kind of a mess right now. If I had to choose, I'd stick with the original Windows Vista and just optimize it myself...

..so what's the catch? I should mention I'm running the 32-bit version, so it might be a little bogged down...

How much space does Windows 7 actually need? I've got a cracked version that's sitting at about 7 GB—roughly half a DVD-ROM?

..they drift pretty far into the mainstream, just like the rest of that genre nowadays... but they definitely managed to nail those infectious rhythms and melodies a few times throughout the album. I haven't checked out their latest one yet, though..
