How do you defeat evil and the people behind it? in Psychology ·
Kevin Nguyen3 said:Nick is an excellent choice; perfectly suited for you.

The first thing that strikes me about you is a certain lack of experience. I truly hope you grasp the implications of your socio-utopian musings, which seem to lead nowhere near a practical solution.
The real question remains: is such a society, the one you dream of, even necessary?
I suspect not. We attempted similar ideological shifts back in the 1960s here in the States, and it didn't exactly pan out, did it? Because for "good" to prevail and truly exist, it almost requires evil to be there to control it.

In circumstances like these, one must be adaptable—not like those friends of yours you keep mentioning. Every story has two sides, after all, so what we know about everything is merely your side of the tale.

Tell me, purely out of interest, what kind of guy was he when someone else managed to take him away from you??
Did you simply fail to act when the opportunity arose to snatch him up??
Did you even ask yourself that, or were you too busy obsessing over the pervasive evil in the universe?
Ultimately, let us define evil—is it the evil that happens to you, or is it the evil of a man scavenging through a dumpster??
The very same "evil" that befell you is just a standard Tuesday for someone else.
Your kindness, by some people's standards (which could arguably be justified), is seen as evil as well.
What constitutes good or evil is entirely subjective. We value different things differently, so attempting to generalize leads exactly to what you are doing—feeling utterly lost and unable to find your bearings.

But this interests me too—did your parents not attempt, during your upbringing, to present the world as a mix of good and evil rather than an idealized existence??
If they did, then why didn't they do the exact same thing with your sister?
Because it seems highly unlikely that you were both raised in such vastly different ways.

All of this points toward certain facts: you aren't nearly as "good" as you believe yourself to be—which is evidenced by the contempt, jealousy, and envy you display when writing about those around you—nor is there as much evil occurring around you as you try to distort into something tangible.

Life is much easier to endure if you try to analyze it objectively; there isn't an excess of evil or an excess of good. Everything exists in balance.

... hmmm... 🤔... big boobs?

Heh... funny thing is, "reality" existed back in the Roman Empire and during the Mongol Empire too, even if they didn't have much use for ethics either...

Here’s a solid thread from back in the day:

It’s an illusion... a fabricated concept... nothing more than a dogma

much like the myth of Santa Claus 😍

Everything is relative and illusory, though in ethics, people tend to view evil through the lens of Hitler's principle.

Nicholas Gonzalez73 said:I suspect the real issue lies with those people who are just so fundamentally good that they can't even wrap their heads around the idea that bad actors exist, so when someone finally does stab them in the back, they’re left completely shell-shocked 😲

Then, on the flip side, you have the ones who put on this massive act of being saints, when in reality they're just complete garbage who blame everyone else for their own mess 😛

It really comes down to figuring out which camp the author actually falls into 😁

Hmm. It’s only natural to feel that heavy sense of frustration that follows negative outcomes—if we want to sound more sophisticated than just saying "being really bummed out by bad results." 😍 It stems from impulsive actions taken without much thought.

We need to figure out which group the author falls into.😁

I’d say she’s in the good group.
In every possible sense.
Practice gratitude? in Psychology ·
placidwolf27 said:But it doesn't actually ground you in the "now" if the entire premise relies on things you're already grateful for—which is inherently backward, since it’s just an exercise in reminiscence. It doesn't bring peace; instead, it highlights the weight of everything you owe, the things you never even asked for, and most of which you can't even repay, effectively trapping you in a position of inferiority... or worse, focusing on circumstances that are completely beyond anyone's control. It just serves as a reminder of how much of our lives is contingent, conditional, and frankly absurd. All it does is invite negativity, frustration, and a sense of shame... I fail to see the positive in any of that.

Grateful to whom, exactly?

It’s positive, I suppose, if you look at it from the perspective of building social structures—the kind of stuff needed for any community to actually function. It’s just incredibly draining to deal with an ungrateful person who doesn't give back what you put in.

Also, write out the absolute best-case scenario for your life—everything you want the world to hand you. Read that every day, too.

I'm not entirely sure how the mechanics work. You could ask a spiritual advisor for answers, but psychologists and scientists haven't quite cracked it yet. Even some folks in quantum physics are looking into gratitude and what mystics call the Law of Attraction.

Personally, I’ve been practicing this gratitude thing. I can't explain the logic behind it, but by focusing on my first list, I'm actually manifesting the second one. I've been at it for a month now, and things are already starting to shift for the better.

Are you suggesting sociology isn't a science?

Where on earth are you getting that idea about quantum physics?
I'm not a woman, but I have an opinion here. 😬
- And honestly, everything happening here can be summed up with just one single word: hybristophilia.

Do you seriously think mosquitoes or gnats care about state lines instead of the actual climate?

Is anyone actually out there intentionally importing invasive species? They just slip right in through global trade routes and commercial shipping lanes. And let’s be real—you can't just hold them back behind some artificial national border. Once they hit the ecosystem, they spread everywhere. It would be incredibly idiotic to try and weaponize them for economic leverage when controlling them is basically an impossible task.
And who’s going to tell me that?
Why do we feel the need to hide our emotions? in Psychology ·
Is there any point in discussing this? Does anyone actually believe that those specific numbers change the outcome? It feels like we’re just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic at this stage. We go through the motions, we follow the rules, and yet the result remains predictably underwhelming. Why bother overcomplicating a process that was clearly flawed from the start? It’s almost funny, if you have that kind of dark sense of humor. One might wonder if the effort itself is just a distraction from the inevitable. But then again, maybe I'm being too cynical. Or maybe I'm the only one seeing things for what they really are. kaže:
If we're talking about the job that actually pays your mortgage—and you're living here in the States—then you might as well just aim for the middle ground until someone actually decides to look.☕

It doesn't matter. Even if there were two or three on the main runway and one on the taxiway, I’m already exhausted just thinking about it—I can't deal with all those skydivers face-planting everywhere.

- I'm dropping this here since there isn't a dedicated thread for subforum improvements.

Given how much people love discussing global climate change—its causes, its consequences, and how it impacts the world around me—I suggest we set up a single top/sticky thread for all posts on the topic. It would prevent those "deeply inspired" clones from constantly rediscovering lukewarm water and spamming or trolling the subforum with the same old exhausted debates over and over again.

Thanks for considering the suggestion.
