Dawn of the Dead (2009) in Movies ·
I was debating whether to toss this one into the "film with edge" thread, since it fits the vibe perfectly. But then again, considering how unique this project is coming out of our neighbors to the south—an action-horror zombie flick from Mexico—I figured I’d just start a new thread for it. Not to ramble, but here’s the deal: it’s directed by Milan Konjević and Milan Todorović, with Miroslav Lakobrija handling the makeup. They even snagged some international names like Ken Foree, the legend from George A. Romero's cult classic "Dawn of the Dead," and Kristina Klebe from the Rob Zombie remake of "Halloween." It's a co-production between the US, Italy, and Spain, and people are already calling it half "Dawn of the Dead," half "Assault on Precinct 13." The rest is still under wraps...

The horror flick "dead zone" features an ecological disaster that turns the residents of a small US town into zombies. Writer Milan Konjević is teaming up with Milan Todorović to direct this story where a chemical leak causes a fatal mistake, turning locals into the living dead!
Since a prisoner transport happens to be passing through at the same time, FBI agents find themselves forced to team up with a mysterious and dangerous convict to survive. Miroslav Lakobrija is on makeup and special effects, and filming is set to kick off this spring in various locations around the US, featuring a cast including Dragan Nikolić, Voj Brajović, Miki Krstović, Goran Daničić, and more.

Vukota Brajović from the production company "Talking Wolf" mentioned that through Italian producer Loris Kurči, they secured Ken Foree, the actor famous for his lead role in George A. Romero's horror classic "Dawn of the Dead" (1978). Foree also made a brief appearance in the 2004 remake of "Dawn of the Dead."

- Foree will play one of the leads in "dead zone" thanks to these international producers. Honestly, if we tried doing this on our own, we wouldn't stand a chance. This partnership is exactly how we landed Foree, and we're even looking at bringing in an actress from Italy - Brajović noted.

The producers are pitching the film as "a pure genre horror, an attempt to use the zombie paradigm to shine a light on the growing dangers of environmental pollution".

PLOT
FBI agents are transporting a high-risk prisoner right when a chemical spill hits a small town, triggering a massive zombie outbreak. It turns into a desperate fight for survival filled with gunfights, running for your life, and plenty of blood. Who makes it out, who gets bitten, and who actually gets eaten?

A police-escorted prisoner transport supervised by the FBI sets off toward Mexico City. The route leads the transport through Pancevo, where they encounter an ecological disaster and infected people who are trying to kill them. FBI agents Mortimer Reyes (Ken Foree) and Mina Milius (Kristina Klebe) soon realize that their only chance for escape from the zombie hordes lies in allying with the dangerous, mysterious prisoner.

Anonymous said:...maybe they wouldn't have killed the girl...

...watched it. It's an okay movie, decent enough to watch, but don't expect any Oscars out of this one...

...supposedly based on a true story, which gives it a slight edge, but things definitely didn't go down like that in real life... so that drags it down for me...

...great cast, but the director made some pretty dumb mistakes... like
that scene where Denzel Washington hits a car with a rocket launcher from his apartment... only a complete moron would do that, and the character he's playing is supposed to be a pro... it's ridiculous...😛

He hit the first (and maybe last) car, cutting off the big boss's escape route since he was in the car behind... then he went down, took out the survivors, and snatched the main guy... it wasn't totally pointless. He's a pro, just driven by revenge, so he's a bit more brutal because of that...

northerncrane4 said:Based on the logic the movie sets up, she should've been dead long before he even tracked them down.

If I remember correctly, the lead tells him it would've been better to leave her alive... and later when he finds them, I guess they didn't kill her just out of fear because he was on a killing spree. Actually, for a while, he even thought she was dead and was basically seeking revenge for her, until he hears from that woman at the club that she's actually alive...

northerncrane4 said:***But if he actually succeeds in his good deed, since the girl is still alive*** it makes the movie feel incredibly cliché.

SPOILERS

Why would that be cliché? For most of it, he thinks the girl is dead, so he's essentially getting revenge for her. Later, once he realizes she's alive, since he's already a "lost soul," he decides to sacrifice himself for her, to give her a better life...because at the end of the day, that's the only way to make it right... it's not like he's the Terminator and can just kill everyone. Plus, it's the only way to get to the boss. There's an alternative ending where he reaches the boss alive, they sit down, the boss offers him a cigar, Denzel Washington smiles, and the camera pans out... turns out he's got a bomb hidden like the one he gave that cop... basically blows himself and the boss up.
Personally, though, I think the ending we got is way better...

but let's not get bogged down in the details

I don't care how much they changed him; to me, Conan sounds exactly like how Arnold sounded in the movie... that's the perfect version of Conan.👍

feralorca82 said:What makes you say that? 😕

Between the era his stories take place (the Hyborian Age), the people he’s constantly fighting or meeting (basically Germanic tribes), his whole background (being a Cimmerian), and just how he looks (Though several later authors have referred to Conan as "Germanic-looking")... I mean, there's no way I can look at a guy built like that...

image

...and imagine him speaking perfect, posh English. That’s why Arnold was the perfect choice for me; that rough, heavy accent of his fit Conan perfectly... at least, that's how it works for me.👍

feralorca82 said:It isn't just about the muscle. Every actor brings something different to the table, but The Rock has that same spark Arnie had; he's got the charisma, and honestly, that’s enough to make him pull it off in my book. 😉

Ali Rock is honestly more funny to me than someone I'd cast in a "serious" macho role. He was great in The Scorpion King because he was clearly having a blast and the movie itself was such a joke, but as Conan—and I mean the original one, not that second kid-friendly version—man, he just doesn't look or sound Neanderthal enough.

Arnold isn't just Conan because of how he looks; it's that voice too. Honestly, I can't even picture Conan speaking perfect English—I've always imagined him sounding like some guy from Austria, LOL. That’s why Arnold was the perfect choice, and Kickinger is probably the closest thing we'll get. Of course, nobody's going to offer him the role since he's a total unknown.

Plus, The Rock just doesn't have the look for Conan. Schwarzenegger looked like he stepped right off the comic book pages—both with his physique and that rugged face. He actually looked like Conan. The Rock? I don't know. His body is fine, but his face... not so much.
Conan the Barbarian in Movies ·
This guy might actually pull it off... he’s got the stats and even sounds like Arnold - Roland Kickinger. He actually played Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie See Arnold Run. Here are some clips from that flick (CLIP 1, CLIP 2, CLIP 3). Apparently, this same guy is stepping in for Arnold in the new Terminator—rumor is they’ll just swap Arnold's head onto Roland's body...

Best Movie + Soundtrack Combos: Top 5 in Movies ·
I just remembered two more scenes where the music absolutely carried the moment...

JCVD - "Hard Times" (INTRO)
- The scene itself is honestly hilarious and ironic—it really shows how far one Van Damme has fallen, but not just him; it’s basically all those old action legends who ended up in cheap DTV flicks. But the song, especially the lyrics, "Havin' hard times, in this crazy town...", fits the whole vibe perfectly...

Slumdog Millionaire - "Paper Planes"
- Great movie, killer soundtrack. This specific scene is just one of many times the music in this film hit the mark flawlessly. I can't find the exact clip right now, but that track—"Weather and Escape"—is fantastic during the part where the kids are running for the train.
John Wick (2008) in Movies ·
Yup... apparently the second one was such a massive hit in America that they've already greenlit a third...

Looks like a lot of my favorites are already on the list... hard to narrow it down to just five, honestly. But mostly... besides the ones I'm about to copy over...

James Kelly said:#1 - Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) - Sergio Leone
Score: Ennio Morricone - "The Man with the Harmonica"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08Az1...c-HM-fresh+div
The best parts for me are when the kid runs out of the house, sees the carnage of his family, and that larger-than-life music kicks in. Or that shot where the killers emerge from the brush, closing in on him, with lighting so moody you can't even see their faces. This movie is packed with killer scenes and every detail is dialed in, but those are the peaks. They don't make movies—or score them—like this anymore. Sadly.
And that line: "What we're gonna do with this one Frank," and Frank responds: "Now that you called me by name"... damn, what a hit.

#5 - Once Upon a Time in America (1984) - Sergio Leone
Score: Ennio Morricone - Deborah's Theme

God, so beautiful. Might be my favorite Morricone track ever. Watching the silent guy and that girl who basically sees their own tragic fate coming is just stunning.

I Will Find You
I honestly don't even know how to describe that scene without spoiling it. 🤷

Death ProofI don't even know what that track is called, and I don't have the soundtrack on me right now.
Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS6VRfJbI4c

From Dusk Till DawnTito & Tarantula - "After Dark" 😍
Salmin ples 😬 Salmin ples

And then there's also...

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Zorba the Greek
To me, it’s an all-time classic scene. You've got these guys just cruising home after a successful heist, totally oblivious to the fact that a bloodbath is being set up right in their own apartment. One crew is hyped up and waiting for them, while the other is coming in hot to take them out—it's just too damn good.🙏

Reservoir Dogs - That "Little Green Bag" track is such a vibe. It sets the tone perfectly right from the jump.
Killer opening to an even better movie. Not much to say really—just that legendary, effortless swagger in black suits and shades, all set to that iconic track. Pure class. 🙏

Reservoir Dogs. Stuck in the Middle with You
Another legendary, unforgettable scene from that movie—the ear cutting set to "Stuck in the Middle with You." Honestly, Tarantino was actually considering swapping it out for something else. Balboa BlitzHonestly, if he’d just gone with her instead of whoever this is, he wouldn't have missed the mark so badly. Hehe.🙏

Crank Turn Me Loose
That track alone pulled me right into the scene. It fits so perfectly—total 80s vibes, haha.

Pulp Fiction - Comanche
That whole scene where Willis gears up for revenge and picks out his weapons is hilarious, but man, that soundtrack in the background... absolutely kills.🙏

Death Proof. "Down in Mexico"
Killer scene, killer Kurt, killer track...🙏

I'll probably think of a few more as they come to me.
Frank Moore4 said:😁 😁

I'm betting there are at least a few people here who actually dig those 80s action legends. Surely this isn't just a forum for metrosexuals. 😁

Seriously? It's pretty cool that Dolph jumped in. 👍 Too bad Jean-Claude Van Damme didn't take the offer to be in The Expendables. 😢

By the way, Peter Hyams also directed "2010"—which, if you ask me, was a killer sequel to "2001"—starring Roy Schneider, John Lithgow, Helen Mirren, Bob Balaban, and Keir Dulle.

I know, I know... but he won't be directing Universal Soldier 3; his son John is taking the helm. Peter will just be the Director of Photography.👍
Frank Moore4 said:I should probably take a second to talk about Dolph, since he’s one of those true old-school legends. 😁 😬

Anyway, they're already in pre-production. Icarus posterSo, when is Dolph going to play another Russian again? 😁 Here’s the plot: An assassin trained by the Russians is just trying to shake off his double life as a killer to finally be there for his wife and kids..

There are even rumors going around about... Universal Soldier 3Plus, you've got Jean-Claude Van Damme in the mix too.

I know, haha.😁Honestly, only a tiny handful of people even care about this stuff... but hey, maybe there are still some folks out there who grew up on 80s action flicks and actually enjoy a good trashy movie, haha.😁

I know about Universal Soldier 3 too... and honestly, I watch it every single day, haha.😁😁👍

It’s not just rumors—it’s actually happening. Dolph only has six days on set while Jean-Claude Van Damme is there for twenty, and John Hyams is stepping in to direct. He’s the son of Peter Hyams (the guy behind Timecop and Sudden Death), which is an interesting connection. Apparently, the kid has been doing some documentary work lately and mentioned wanting to shoot this Soldier flick in a docu-style format, similar to Cloverfield or REC. Could be pretty cool.👍
