So, I finally sat down—mostly because a dear friend wouldn't stop bugging me—to watch My Name Is Khan. .

What can I even say? Kovrcava has wandered off into the unknown by now, probably carrying a basket overflowing with all the tears I shed. 😬.

That moment at the end where the main guy, the somewhat slow-on-the-uptake Rizwan Khan, meets the President of the United States (and Obama, no less!) is going to haunt my psyche for the rest of my life. 🤦.

@Herp

Thanks for getting back to me. 🙂 I was only slightly bothered by that one post from our esteemed member—which might have been unintentionally arrogant, if we're being honest—where she wrote: Well, I just went ahead and dropped a massive 50-point bomb on this thread just to drag this ancient topic back into the light. It’ll probably just turn out to be a massive pile of nothing intended to troll us all. Like I said before, you can't really group them together—apples and oranges.

Jacob Foster11 said:Honestly, this should be handled by some kind of automation, much like how they run things on other international forums. You could just set it up so that certain high-traffic megathreads or essential discussion hubs are exempt, but for everything else, you’d have an auto-lock feature kick in after, say, three or six months of total inactivity. It would save us all a lot of manual cleanup.

You guys are seriously trying to get my blood pressure up again, but there is absolutely no way—not even if it happens during the entertainment segment. 🙂 This is pure destruction. By that logic, should everyone who wants to say something about movie XY just start an entirely new thread every single time the old one sits idle for more than six months? 😵 Where exactly is this all headed? 🤷 God, that automatic locking feature is such a joke; there's absolutely no way we're sitting through that movie.

Nicholas King said:Honestly, I feel like this whole debate is just a non-existent dilemma we've somehow managed to invent.

If there’s actually a case where someone got flagged for digging up some ancient thread—though I highly doubt that ever happens—it’s something that can be sorted out through the PŽK. That said, you really can't compare those topical PDFs, like the one for movies where certain threads basically live forever, to the more lifestyle-oriented ones like LJES, US, or ŽuD.

I couldn't agree more.

redmarlin3 said:It really matters, because people end up quoting those ancient posts and dragging themselves into these endless debates, trying to force some kind of interaction with things that were written ages ago.

The absolute peak of petty behavior happened a little while back when someone decided to dig up some ancient thread just to start arguing with a user who hasn't even been active on this forum for a year and a half.

Why on earth would we even allow a debate like this to happen?

We’re talking about total extremes here, mostly when I look back at some of the recent stories people have been dropping on those old threads around the forum. For instance, Losing your best friend is a special kind of heavy that I don't think anyone ever truly prepares for, no matter how many books you read or how much advice people throw at you. It’s this quiet, hollow sort of ache that settles in and just refuses to leave, making everything feel slightly out of focus. You go through the motions, you show up to work, you grab coffee, but there's this constant, nagging awareness that the one person who actually "got" you isn't there to witness it anymore. It's a strange, lonely realization that some chapters of your life have closed permanently, and you're left wandering through the rest of the story without your co-author. By the way, that specific thread over on the Psychology board hasn't seen any life in over a year. So, let’s play out a little hypothetical here: suppose someone isn't really looking for a direct response from the existing users, they just need to get something off their chest—specifically, the experience of losing a best friend. In that case, why on earth would anyone object to them starting a fresh thread? And honestly, who actually has the authority to stop a user from sharing their story in a space meant for it? At the end of the day, it's your sub-forum and your rules, so I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes. I'd just ask that we don't start making sweeping generalizations about everyone. If you're stepping up to act in an official moderator capacity, it wouldn't hurt to be a bit more specific, like saying, "I moderate this particular section, and our policy here doesn't allow reviving old threads." That's all.

It really just comes down to the context of the situation. If we're talking about a single post within a specific thread, I’ll just shut the whole topic down and call it a day. But if it's the same person popping up and digging through five ancient threads from years ago all within a single hour, then yeah, I definitely need to step in and let them know that's not how we play things here.

On the subforums I frequent, you won't find any of these ridiculous restrictions, nor do I expect them to ever show up. Honestly, they just seem silly and completely unnecessary. If someone decides to dig up a few threads from the early 2000s over on the Movie forum, who cares? As long as their posts actually offer something useful or spark a decent conversation, then I say more power to them. 🙂

Look, I honestly have no idea how anyone manages to dig up a thread about cellulite from all the way back in 2003.
Could you please explain what that actually means? Exactly. I tried searching on Google to dig up that old thread from 2006 titled "I'm feeling sad," the one where someone was talking about the death of a friend.

I'm not saying you aren't right—every sub-forum has its own set of rules to follow. It just feels a little nonsensical to me to stifle engagement on topics that basically stay relevant forever. We're talking about shared life experiences here, after all. Anything else is just a transparent attempt to inflate the numbers.

brightridge59 said:So, I just went ahead and dropped a massive fifty-point card on reviving this ancient thread.

Goodness, some people here really make it difficult for anyone to actually read anything. Please, stop confusing everyone. If you’re going to hand out a warning or a ban, at least have the decency to mention which subforum you're talking about. You mentioned trolling and some nonsense about apples and pears—what on earth does a justified sanction for trolling have to do with reviving ancient threads? For instance, over on the Movie forum, the rule against digging up prehistoric threads (regardless of what year they originated) is worth its weight in gold.

Anderson said:I’m with you there—there are some really solid threads around here. Discussions about movies never truly get old, so I think it's actually a pretty good idea to bump up the older topics and sprinkle in some fresh stuff to keep things moving.

In the Culture and Entertainment subforum, there isn't a single topic that can't be dragged out from under the dust.

redmarlin3 said:I saw a pretty brutal example the other day—someone decided to dig up a thread from probably five years ago that some girl had started after she lost her best friend. Neither the original poster nor most of the people who actually commented on it have even been active on this forum for ages. And now, out of nowhere, someone resurrects the whole thing just to offer their condolences? Like, seriously, what is the point? 🤦 It’ll honestly remain an eternal mystery to me how they even managed to stumble upon that topic in the first place, let alone what kind of twisted mental state you have to be in to actually sit down and try to answer something like that.

Yeah, I know it sounds a little ridiculous to jump into a thread that’s been gathering dust for five years just to offer condolences. But honestly, when you're talking about the trauma of losing a friend, time doesn't really mean much. That kind of thing doesn't just expire, not even in the year 2196. 🙂 Look, experience is what actually matters here, and honestly, I couldn't care less about who was posting on this thread before or which users have gone ghost and aren't active on the forum anymore. At the end of the day, if someone comes in with a fresh perspective—assuming they’re actually sharing a new experience—I don't see why management would feel the need to step in and hand out sanctions. It feels a bit unnecessary, doesn't it? 🤷 By the way, It’s one of those eternal mysteries that just refuses to be solved. It’s called Google, and honestly, that’s exactly how most people end up stumbling onto threads like this in the first place.

😁

The guy has my respect for standing his ground for his own people and having to clean up someone else's mess... and doing it consistently, too 😁

As far as I'm concerned, he was easily the best opponent from that era we all hated 🙂

Aristotle, come back ☕

Villains or not—complaining about the bans is a much bigger issue. 🙂 I actually have a lot of respect for Aristotle, which is why I'm bringing this up now—if he had actually challenged those last two cards he received, I'm certain the admins would have upheld them regardless. In other words, while his interpretation of covert advertising might be problematic for the media outlet he works for, it wasn't an issue regarding trolling rules (even if it felt like a jab at me). I don't have anything against Schmokljan, and moderators make mistakes sometimes. He should have filed a formal appeal through the proper channels. Simple as that.

Disclaimer: Aristotle never tried to hide who he was on this forum, and I respect him for that. The link provided below isn't a violation of Reddit's rules.

Yeah, I feel bad that he left, especially since he let himself be baited. 😬

Playing lawyer isn't allowed here, but I'm asking the admins to please reconsider whether those last two Aristotelian cards were actually justified. Thanks.

Bring back Aristotle!

Roger Wright said:Look, I’m not even trying to play the hero or demand justice this time; I’m just going to delete my account and walk away from the Forum entirely because I honestly don't have the energy to deal with this kind of nonsense anymore.

Just thought I'd put that out there. Cheers.

I’m genuinely sorry to see you go, and I mean that without a hint of sarcasm. It’s actually been great seeing your stuff pop up in the other media section; in some strange, albeit slightly odd, way, you’ve really added something meaningful to that subforum. As a certain respected American poet once put it: I might be a sinking ship right now, but don't go thinking I'm giving up just yet. 🙂 Just hang in there, man; swallow your pride for once and keep typing. Honestly, I’ve lost track of how many times I've had to deal with Smoogey's nonsense myself. 🙂

Look, it’s really not that deep; it’s just a basic clash of realities because I work at Blackstone Group and I’m not exactly being shy about it. I'm just trying to offer some actual context to these pretty baseless attacks, while everyone else seems to be playing the part of self-appointed heroes standing on the thin, shaky line of logic.

Just another batch of victims falling prey to the massive corporate machine that I, for better or worse, happen to represent.

So, Smokey and Smudgy show up, and wouldn't you know it—they managed to rack up not one, but two infractions.

Look, all these "attacks" are actually pretty well-founded. I’m not trying to step on any toes or lecture the moderators on how to run their business—I really wouldn't dream of interfering with that—but there is one thing here that feels genuinely wrong. You tried to defend what was clearly nothing more than blatant, undercover advertising over on the USA Today thread. You did it using flawed, inaccurate, and honestly pretty deceptive arguments that just shouldn't pass muster. On top of that, even those... Self-proclaimed knights standing on the very edge of reason. And honestly, looking at some of these people, I’m starting to wonder if there's even a limit to how much trolling can happen on this Forum. 🙂 Look, Tim, those recent posts you got flagged for didn't offend me one bit. It’s actually just a funny little paradox when you think about it. It isn't exactly a secret that you work for the Blackstone Group and represent their interests, and honestly, there's nothing wrong with that—it's fine to stay quiet about the other side of the coin. But the real absurdity lies in how things work on the other media outlets and all the different sub-forums around here. Users are perfectly allowed—even encouraged, really—to take aim at the Blackstone Group with as much detail as they want, yet people working for the Blackstone Group aren't even permitted to push back against users, even if it's just a bit of lighthearted trolling.

So, how exactly does one go about getting on the green?

It’s pretty simple—just grab a green username and you’re in. sponsored user Forum.com 😁 Honestly, that service isn't even pricey; I’m pretty sure the CEO of Blackstone, Stephen Oreskovic, would happily sign off on that bill just to keep the marketing department at Forum.com happy.

P.S. Just a heads-up, you can't actually delete your account. 😬

dustypuma5 said:Here’s an example. This definitely isn't something that warrants a ban.

Of course it deserves a ban; we're talking about the absolute lowest tier of user behavior here—you know, things like setting your nickname to 'Ottoman Occupier,' or even lower, insulting someone by implying they're probably posting from Canada 😕. Any time someone resorts to those kinds of petty personal attacks instead of actually sticking to the topic, they should get flagged. Honestly, I'm just surprised that after 2,068 posts, you still can't see that or try to justify it. 🤷

Anyway, I actually intend to head back to the thread and post that overly opinionated column by Vedrana Rudan, where I'll probably just agree with her in a few constructive sentences.

The question is: does this specific thing deserve a sanction or a ban? Of course not. 😁

Alright, back to the point. Does it bother anyone else that they made the chimera look attractive? Do you think making it hot ruins what could have been some genuinely good elements of the film?

edit: It’s such a shame they had to rely on that cheap Spiderman-CGI for little Dren. Living creatures just don't move like that.

Attractive based on what, exactly—those few photos or the trailer? We don't really know if EL dren is attractive yet; I mean, we probably should actually watch the movie first.

If you're asking if she's attractive, a Gremlins creature is basically Miss Hawaiian Tropic to her.

This movie isn't some bottom-of-the-barrel trash or some niche cult flick.

Bryan Taylor9, can you give me a little more context without dropping any spoilers? Is it just because of that one specific scene, or is there more to it? Now I'm even more curious. 😁

I honestly don't get it, how can you be like this? 😕Is it actually possible that it bothers you when someone adds extra info to the main movie thread? 😵What's even the point of having these threads, especially for movies we haven't even had a chance to see yet? Usually, as a thread starter—and I see you're a moderator somewhere, too—you'd be the first one to appreciate that, rather than getting annoyed and throwing roleplay at everyone else. ☕

Everything works fine on my end. It's even going through twice. 😁

I tend to use those characters in my posts all the time, and I've honestly never run into any issues getting them accepted.
Well, now, what a topic we've stumbled into here. 😍

Do movies actually shape who we are, for better or worse? I can't help but wonder if we're all just a collection of cinematic tropes at this point. What’s your take on it?

It really depends on which one we're talking about, because I try my hardest to find at least one redeeming quality in every movie I watch. My grandfather, on the other hand, seems to have this uncanny ability to let every single film affect him negatively—and I mean absolutely every single one. It’s honestly impressive how he does it, especially since his whole thing is that he only ever wants to watch movies that are completely messed up. Being John MalkovichHe spent days on end rambling about him—honestly, he can't even remember the guy's name anymore, yet he still won't shut up about it. Groundhog DayHe’s actually convinced this is doable, and honestly, he had the nerve to tell my entire family that he went through something pretty much identical back when he was playing for the New York Knicks. 😵 Back at the start of January, he was watching... I was thinking about The Exorcist again, and honestly, it’s one of those films that stays stuck in your brain like a bad habit. There's just something about that specific kind of dread that most modern horror movies can't quite touch, no matter how many jump scares they throw at you. It’s slow, it’s heavy, and it feels genuinely unsettling in a way that makes you want to keep the lights on just a little bit longer than usual. (I really messed this one up again). Honestly, during the house blessing, I spent a solid hour just listening to the priest drone on and on; does he even realize how much he’s talking, or is he actually aware of it? I can't help but wonder if they know about this over at Vatican City, and why the Vatican and Boanic keep all this stuff from the rest of us. 🤦 He basically insisted that I drop everything to watch this movie and report back my thoughts ASAP. This is a transcript from our phone call about three months ago—he woke me up around two in the morning because he apparently couldn't sleep.

Good grief, someone please help me out here—there’s this one movie that I just cannot shake, and it’s stuck on loop in my head.
"Seriously, Grandpa—what if Ruzin is actually Rosemary's Baby?"
It's definitely not Rosemary's Baby; this one’s actually lost his mind.
Which one?
Imagine some little kids just wandering down the street when they suddenly stumble right into a monster—you know, like one of those rabbits with those massive, creepy teeth.
Donnie Darko!
Which Darko?

Well, he passed away today. 😢 Well, Dennis Hopper is gone, may he rest in peace. 🙏 He claims that Frank Booth reminds him irresistibly of his grandmother. Honestly, the movie didn't quite land for me either; it left a million damn questions hanging in the air. Like, what is actually going on with him? What kind of sickness is he suffering from—is he just suffocating for lack of fresh air? And she isn't exactly healthy herself, so why on earth is she clinging to such a twisted portrayal? Anyway, I ended up losing it laughing during that scene with the ear.

It’s a straightforward story, really. He’s still going on about Alvin Straight—and if it isn't him, it’s just some other guy he’s obsessed with. It’s like he's stuck in a loop. DarkoRegarding the whole saga with Straight, this guy is out here claiming that his late brother was actually Isidore—apparently, they were estranged for ages, and poor Ziggy ended up passing away just because this lunatic couldn't be bothered to see him. Now he’s going on and on about heading out to Alvin's grave to light a candle, and honestly, he’s been obsessing over this since March. You try explaining to him that Farnsworth is buried in the States, but it doesn't matter; he’s just busy picking out some identical lawnmower at Home Depot and preparing to head out on whatever wild journey he's dreaming up. He hasn't even clarified if he's just talking big or if he actually intends to roll up to that unfortunate cemetery in Lincoln, New Mexico, on a riding mower like Alvin Straight himself.

Therapists aren't doing much to help, and honestly, my family is just at their wits' end. Has anyone else dealt with something similar with their own relatives?

P.S. Sorry if that was a bit of a novel. 🙂
