Laura Palmer25 said:And they’re just plain dim, not even because they cater to a mindless audience that can't wrap their heads around anything that doesn't look or feel like an American landscape—or heaven forbid, anyone who refuses to read subtitles (though I suppose Germans and Italians won't touch them either), but because they lack the capacity to recognize an ultimate masterpiece that simply shouldn't be recycled again.

That goes for the clueless Van Santa types who messed around in Psycho and the idiots who thought it was a bright idea to remake classics like the ones mentioned above (plus Halloween, Friday the 13th, The Last House on the Left and a whole pile of primal American horror flicks where simpletons fail to realize these were the result of a perfect storm of genius from directors, writers, and actors alike—a lightning strike that doesn't just happen twice).

I get where you're coming from, but claiming it's just Americans who are thick in this regard is a stretch. Let me throw your own logic back at you like a boomerang: what about the Chinese and their remakes of things by Coen; the French with http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0280990/ (recycling Carpenter); the Italians with http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374358/ ('Groundhog Day'); the Japanese with http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1236373/ ('Sideways'); the Indians with http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0456413/ (imagine the nerve, recycling Fincher's 'Fight Club', then churning them out like an assembly line: 'Man on Fire', 'Memento', 'Weekend at Bernie's', 'Mrs. Doubtfire'... the list goes on forever); the Britons with http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0291341/ ('The Longest Yard'); the Koreans with http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0399650/ ('Phone Booth'); the Mexicans with http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0461336/ ('Saving Private Ryan'); or even the Turkish 'Star Wars': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3uAUp6FjgM

We could honestly keep this up until sunrise.
I’m honestly afraid we aren't going to get anything productive out of this thread, other than just creating another space to baselessly bash "evil" Americans (with a few exceptions), as if the French (and every other film industry out there) don't constantly churn out remakes of American movies.

Besides, "remake" has become one of those most notorious buzzwords in Hollywood lately (mostly regarding foreign films, though their own versions haven't escaped either); all the major Hollywood studios are ditching that specific model in favor of pumping out sequels for established franchises, doing reboots, or just recycling their own old hits. A perfect example of their struggle was even Fincher's 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo': MGM Says "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Lost Money; “IT is below Our expectations and WE booked a modest loss.”
Why are moderators allowed to troll without consequences? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
you don't matter

you're just guessing and making insinuations

you're sticking your nose into things you clearly have no clue about

I really couldn't care less about the backstory here, though I suspect we're all on the same page—including rustydrifter10 and Daniel Ward87—that this kind of language is totally out of line for moderators. Especially not within the PZK when they're handling complaints; that old rule from Anderlonov still rings true: "Being passive-aggressive, arrogant, cynical, sarcastic, condescending, or acting like some "I'm-god-the-mod" type during the PZK appeals process is strictly forbidden. (Violators will face bans.) If you can't manage to be cheerful and polite, at least aim for a neutral, professional detachment. Though, honestly, watching people crumble under the weight of a genuinely friendly appeals team would probably be quite the spectacle."

@observer

If the admins are expected to follow those standards, I don't see why it's such an issue for you, so maybe just try evolving a little, man. 🙂

briskhound2 said:That is a complete fabrication and a total twisting of what I actually wrote.

I never said anyone should let it fly without a warning—what I was pointing out was that the Movie is categorized as a DRAMA rather than xxx ADULT, just for context. Both of your images are straight-up pornographic. With the first one, you didn't even bother with a warning; you just dropped it right into the chat, and as for the second one, the "warning" you provided has about as much relevance as me trying to find a lost sock in a dark room... I acted based on my understanding of the rules at the time, and I wasn't wrong—which has been explained to you several times now. This whole thing is just noise because the moderators were actually doing their jobs.

If you want to talk about xxx Movies, I'm always down, but don't go calling people uninformed or clueless when that wasn't even the point of my post. You started by dropping a wide shot of female anatomy (which you're now claiming is just an innocent picture similar to certain acts) and then followed it up with a link to oral sex, which you're now acting like doesn't even exist.

Enough from the smart guys.

Unless you're going to address those claims that the Movie sub-forum moderators are restricting communication between users—which is a pretty heavy accusation, by the way—this whole argument is pointless because we're just spinning our wheels...

I honestly don't think you even grasp the most basic definition of pornography; you could just check Wikipedia for once: Pornography is the explicit depiction of sexual intercourse. The original meaning of the word is "to illustrate lewdness." Claiming that the first photo was pornographic is an insult to every woman and female user on this Forum, if nothing else. Besides, I've already apologized for both shots.

Regarding the first one, you didn't even issue a warning; you just nuked it right in the chat, and as for the second, the warning you gave had about as much relevance as my interest in moon rock research. I acted based on how the established rules were being interpreted at the time, and I wasn't wrong—which has been politely explained to you several times now. This whole thing is just making a massive scene because the moderator(s) were actually doing their jobs.

Once again, why on earth would the Movie chat be any different from the Soccer one? All the examples and photos are right there in the intro post. There are NO double standards here, and there won't be, unless we're talking about LjES. Those are the final words from the highest authority here, Anderlon. As long as these supposed double standards exist, you've just been reacting to rules that (yet) DON'T exist. And whose fault is that in the end? It certainly isn't mine.

Unless you confirm those claims that the moderators of the Movie section are restricting communication between users (which is a pretty heavy accusation), this entire debate is pointless because we're just spinning our wheels.

I will decisively confirm them using my own example, complete with links and everything, so feel free to go read the thread's opening post.

Some parts of this discussion are definitely nonsense, and we really are starting to repeat ourselves, but the topic itself isn't mindless—the administration hasn't even weighed in yet.

@Daniel Ward87

In the very first post of this thread, I think we pretty much proved how hypocritical the standards are when it comes to posting xxx ADULT content here on Forum.hr (and like I said before, it’s a total "it depends" situation depending on which sub-forum you're in, which isn't necessarily just a blunder by the current admin team—it's actually on you guys to finally get these things cleaned up). Maybe it wasn't the fairest move to limit the discussion strictly to PDF Movies (that was my own little cover story, really; the thread should have probably just been titled "Pornography/Adult Content on Forum.hr"). Regardless, all forum members are more than welcome to join the conversation (just keep the trolling and insults to yourselves, obviously).

I'm honestly hoping the administration is doing something about these rules. Even if it isn't explicitly laid out in the "Forum.hr - rule" section, since every PDF thread is its own beast, these guidelines need to be clearly stated in the rules for every single sub-forum. Like I mentioned, as long as those rules aren't actually posted there, handing out custom bans without any prior warning just isn't a reasonable way to handle things. It’s not just unfair; it’s not even legitimate.

There aren't even any such rules listed under "Photography", where the topic "Male and Female Nudes" was locked with a moderator explanation stating: "OK, this thread doesn't make sense anymore because Google ordered us to remove all nudity, so the topic stays locked. Images have been removed."

You can't have stuff like that scattered across locked threads or tucked away in the FAQ (explained in the Anderlon section); I mean, who is actually going to find them there? Imagine if someone today posts a photograph of a female nude in "Photography," totally unaware of the rules established in the FAQ—are you really going to ban them? Of course you won't.

I realize the administration needs some time to sort this out, so take your time. 👍

Beaver, let's get back to talking about porn on the Movie sub-forum:

NOTE: EXPLICIT CONTENT, UNDER 18S SHOULD NOT CLICK THE FIRST LINK IN THIS POST

Christian Taylor3 said:I don't know what you're talking about, the "full uncut fellatio" scene from 'The Brown Bunny' is explicitly a blowjob, here: http://www.slutload.com/watch/zZraqd...ncensored.html That was posted as part of a clearly labeled and unpunished thread in the chat. Now try comparing that to that innocent photograph (not a link, just a photo with a clear warning for minors) from yesterday's thread that you're trying to give me a custom ban for. The whole Forum is allowed to see it, but apparently I'm not.

briskhound2 said:As far as I'm concerned, The Brown Bunny IS NOT a pornographic Movie. Your picture IS pornography. Both are. No matter how innocent or harmless you claim it is. It's like saying if someone posts a rape scene featuring Monica Bellucci, or sex involving Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas—those are all just regular movies. Thrillers, art films, Sci-Fi—none of them are pornographic.

(PORNOGRAPHY) The end of the movie contains a real oral sex scene. The character Daisy is on Her knees, performing oral sex on the character Bud. This is an actual oral sex scene, where a real penis is shown in the actress' mouth for a substantial length of time. He finishes in her mouth and she swallows.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0330099/parentalguide

So, those are the moderation criteria over on the Movie sub-forum; they would allow that kind of thing to be posted there, even without a warning. It's just total ignorance and a lack of understanding of the subject matter.

Enough for the smart people.

northerncrane4, you're off-topic.

Once again, I'm asking the administration: who do I report to, and how, regarding a moderator's private messages (specifically one containing the most blatant insults toward a user)?

Jerry Rogers6 said:Hey man... my buddies at the job are honestly rooting for you, can you believe that? 🙂

That's exactly the point here.
I don't fucking get why you're making such a big deal out of me posting under a different handle, and what specifically is the issue
and why does any of this actually matter on any level? 😕

Some people, after a certain amount of time passes, just grab a new username and start posting again.
It's a huge fucking deal, apparently. 🤷
They aren't abusing anything, they aren't scamming anyone—they remain exactly who they were, identical, just under a new name.
There are countless examples of this.

And if there were actually some massive problem regarding my famous rotating nicknames that people love to nitpick, I highly doubt I'd even be allowed to post now—just imagine, for crying out loud—under my fourth nickname. 😲 😲 I mean, how would I even dare, dammit? 😲🤣

Everyone fucking knows it's me, and I even give the mods a heads-up whenever I switch to a new handle.

And you're still slightly lying about how long I've been using those same names.

You'd be dead if you weren't, wouldn't you? 😁

...

But you are, yeah.
To everyone else, you were incredibly helpful, and we all collectively gained a lot of insight thanks to you.

And I told you that—I said it publicly, too.

But then there’s the other side of the story that I mentioned in my previous post, which is why everything ended up leaving a pretty bitter taste in the mouths of some of us.

Get a grip on reality, for God's sake, and try being creative. 🤷

So, there you have it. Those are the reactions. 😁

So, let me get this straight—the mods over at the movie subreddit actually know that you’re posting on the "Film Music" board using two different handles almost simultaneously? And on top of that... Registration In which post does the user dalal mention Rilke? You're answering as Jerry Rogers6. Beautiful.

Look, you just don't do that; it's strictly against the rules.

And you’re kind of stretching the truth again regarding how long you’ve actually been using those same handles.

You’d probably drop dead if you weren't around, wouldn't you? 😁

Honestly, this constant "lying" talk is getting exhausting. We live in a country where the biggest liars basically run our lives—and we’re the ones who vote them in, too—while the actual thieves are treated like freaking heroes by most of the population. So, really, you're trying to lecture me about lying? I’m just some anonymous guy on Reddit. You can keep dragging out this whole argument that I’m some kind of pathological liar just because my math is off by a few digits. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 😁

...

Yeah, I am.
Honestly, you’ve been incredibly helpful to everyone here, and I think we all walked away with a ton of great info thanks to you.

And that’s exactly what I told you—it’s all happening right out in the open.

Thanks, dear. I appreciate it.

Then again, there’s that other side of the story I touched on in my last post, which is really why the whole situation ended up leaving such a bitter taste in the mouths of some of us.

get a grip on people, for God's sake, try being creative 🤷

There’s always another side to the story, even when it comes to someone like Mother Teresa, or any of us, really. I’m not here because of "certain people," and honestly, do you actually believe there’s a place out there where everyone is going to love you? Like Reddit? 😁 Besides, I was born creative; it's basically my entire life, both personally and professionally.

p.s. since you're going on and on about praising northerncrane4, I just couldn't help myself:

NOTE: Inappropriate language, not for anyone under 16

and you, northerncrane4, seriously, just back the hell off already and go find someone else to take your frustrations out on

you're becoming fucking hilarious :milkShake:

my only issue with this Reddit is the moderator in question, and frankly, I've had enough of it

😬

p.p.s. I'm appealing to you guys not to lock this thread; let's not get into insults (based solely on the explicit language used).

Jerry Rogers6 said:this is just a flat-out lie.

🙂

I can only recall a few of those beaver's interventions from the last couple of months... and there were definitely way more than that, considering I follow maybe two or three specific threads regularly.

I’m on this movie site daily, several times a day, and I see him moderating the least out of anyone. I mention this because he’s currently sitting there trying to lecture people and pulling his usual bullshit. His ban was lifted, so let's just go ahead and give him hell ourselves. Exactly. He won't get away with this.

northerncrane4, as much of an absolute jerk and difficult character as he can be sometimes, is a genuine blessing to this movie site, and if anyone hasn't learned how to deal with his style by now, I honestly think they should probably find some other virtual spaces to satisfy their needs.

Completely unrelated to you, that second part is a literal quote from ZgSash, followed by "go screw yourself in advance." Those days are over; we all know how that ended. With the new administration, that kind of toxicity stopped, everyone adapted to the new direction of Reddit, everyone except northerncrane4. This whole thing where he acts like a tough guy when communicating with users has to stop. Right now. Yeah, even though I'm just your average user here without any authority, I feel I have every right to say it. Despite everything, I'll even give him a compliment, believe it or not—on the General Discussion board: http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=40038604&postcount=9

you're the one, Christian Taylor3, who keeps insisting you're in your own backyard and can do whatever you want, which personally bothers me the most. I've told you publicly before that you act like a busybody for everyone, and frankly, it doesn't suit you at all.

I am in my own backyard just like every other user on Reddit. Since day one, I've been saying that we all work together to maintain this place. Take the internal search tool that never worked—not a single mod thought to urgently ask the admins to implement a custom Google script for better searching. Why? Because existing threads were popping up like mushrooms; every day, several movie topics were being deleted or merged.

http://www.reddit.com/showthread.php?t=676985

It got fixed, even under the old administration (everyone loves to paint ZgSash as the ultimate villain these days, but we should be honest and admit the man had plenty of virtues too). There are dozens of interventions like mine, specifically aimed at improving this place.

I get that it drives people crazy. You try to show someone how to finally use the custom search (it's right in front of them, on every page), and instead of a thank you, you get nothing but lip: "Who do you think you are, lecturing me?"; "Are you a moderator or something?" and all that nonsense.

We can actually prove it right now, since you're already here. Look, as just another regular guy on the movie subreddit, it really gets under my skin when someone spends one month posting as little sunshine, then the next as lucca, then the third as Rilke, and the fourth as Jerry Rogers6... And since you’ve used all those handles to post in the movie section too—which isn't a crime in itself—the part that’s actually annoying is using multiple clones to swarm the exact same threads, specifically the film music topic. You just don't do that. I always try to flag it, and here’s how I did it quite politely: But now you're just getting worked up because it suits you, even though there’s really no excuse for it.

So, there it is—my famous habit of sticking my nose into everything. And honestly, who’s going to stop me? Especially when it usually results (as it always does) in something good. Nobody. Someone might even say thanks, but there's no need; I'm a pretty modest guy. 😁

If I were the moderator over there, I would have wiped that entire chat clean and warned you to stop doing it.
briskhound2 had a different take on it, and I don't think he was all that far off.

There were never any issues in the movie chat before, and this whole thing with the photos at the end definitely wasn't handled well. It doesn't even matter whether it's technically allowed or not; those things just don't belong in the movie chat. I have no problem apologizing, and I sincerely apologize if those photos hurt anyone's feelings, including yours. However, I still maintain that the punishment for it was completely out of line and way too harsh.

By the way, on those two movie chats, we became this huge community of cinephiles, debating great films and defending or cursing out Polanski. We aren't going to let those two photos and some blatant racism ruin our friendship (and for what it's worth, I totally support the mods in their reaction). 🙂

Just to refresh your memory, these were your reactions when the first movie thread was opened on the PDF: Back then, I was some rare, endemic species to you, and today I'm the resident "bad girl"... Play it, Sam... Play 'As Time Goes By'' 😢

P.S. What a load of crap this thread is, I can't believe it. 🙄

I agree, the situation with adult content on Reddit (especially with the double standards) is a total mess. If they actually fix it, we might finally have some decent admins. 👍

quietdriver3 said:But NSFW isn't really a warning, I guess. Like, what does that even mean? I actually tried to google it for an explanation, and it says: not safe for fucking. So, how does that actually relate to your hotlinking? 🤷

I mean, how is anyone supposed to believe that 80% when you're constantly lying? 🤷

And regarding the quote, I don't really see the issue. We could probably just break my sentence down into simple facts. Did you lie when you said you had a clean record? Yeah. Did you repeat that same lie twice (once in the banned corner and again in the appeal book)? Yeah. So, I guess it’s not just an acute thing, maybe more of a chronic problem.

A colleague already explained this in a previous post, I think.

Right now you’ve got 20 strikes, whereas before this latest incident you had 17. How far is that from those 10 or so strikes you were bragging about in your first post? Are we lying again?

Btw,

This actually just backs me up. If I say you were getting punished for stuff like this, and you're loaded with strikes, how exactly does that disprove my point?

I haven't forgotten. Just like I haven't forgotten the way you used to bully people whenever you felt like a crowd was forming behind you.

This is totally taken out of context, and it feels like a blatant attempt at trolling. Honestly, in the spirit of this new moderation direction, it actually handles a potential troll without needing more strikes or deleting posts.

Anyone can easily check that just by clicking the link.

https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-a...w=1883&bih=898

You just got caught in a lie (the kind you seem to be throwing around quite generously here); don't tell me you didn't just Google "not safe for fucking."

And there was also a disclaimer next to that NSFW tag in English, saying "under 18..."

I'll say it again: the ban was overturned because the rules regarding "adult" content on Reddit were undefined or simply non-existent. Constantly bringing up that ban doesn't change anything. It’s zero argument. Everything was laid out in the opening post of this thread.

How is anyone supposed to believe that 80% figure when you're lying constantly? 🤷

We aren't going to talk like that.

As for the post being quoted, I don't see the issue. We can break my sentence down into simple facts. Did you lie when you claimed to have a clean record of cardboard teeth? Yes. Did you repeat that same lie twice (once in the banned section and again in the appeals book)? Yes. So we aren't looking at an acute issue here, but a chronic one.

Christian Taylor3 said:I meant "clean record of cardboard teeth" as in having zero penalty points at the time of the ban. Yeah, I phrased that poorly.

Stop ignoring this and accusing me of pathological lying, especially when you're the one who moderates the movie you moderate every other year. I don't recall your moderator interventions over there, and I have a photographic memory. You only show up in the "complaints and suggestions" book when things get heated. I pointed out the exact same thing regarding The Dude (for months or years, Smoogja was the only one moderating the PDF for that movie).

A colleague already laid this out in their previous post.

I’ve made my point too. Baseless accusations of fascism fly by without even getting a single cardboard teeth, whereas repeating a quote gets punished solely because it forces moderators to ban people. That's just the reality of it; you can see the links in the post above.

Right now you’re sitting at 20 warnings, and before this latest mess, you had 17. How far is that from the 10 or so warnings you were bragging about in your first post? Are we lying again?

Btw,

This actually supports my argument. If I claim you were being disciplined for stuff like that, and you're clearly covered in warnings, how exactly does that debunk me?

I honestly can't believe you're calling me a liar over a handful of warnings. If every user here, with three years of tenure and over 8k posts, managed to rack up only 20 warnings without anyone ever getting banned, this place—along with KZB—wouldn't even exist.

It absolutely debunks you; if I was supposedly just harassing, bullying, mistreating, and mobbing users—which is a total lie, since I only "snapped" at trolls who were immediately kicked off the subreddit—then that falls entirely on your shoulders as the moderator for the movie you moderate. How could I have gotten away with all that without any sanctions, even during the ZgSash era? Care to explain that? And who exactly is responsible for that?

I haven't forgotten. Just as I haven't forgotten the mobbing you pulled every time you felt the crowd turning against you.

First, explain why you guys decisively banned Harper from opening new threads on the movie subreddit; after that, I'll give you an elaborate breakdown proving he still does all those exact things that got him banned in the first place.

That was taken out of context and is part of an attempt to troll. Actually, in the spirit of the new moderation direction, it handles a potential troll without needing any warnings or deleting posts.

Something anyone can easily verify just by clicking the link.

Nothing was taken out of context; it was a blatant insult to the user northerncrane4 is referring to. That user just happens to be from Miami, just like hundreds of other users. Why wasn't that given a warning if it was trolling?

Moderators are supposed to set the example for everyone else on the platform. Period. That’s the issue with the movie subreddit; northerncrane4, with that absolutely unacceptable way of communicating with users, is a terrible example for others. Yeah, even for me—we're all human, and I've got my own share of sins.

quietdriver3 said:The people who moderate this movie find the second one problematic. It's an image of a woman under a table with... well, let's just say things happening. The image was linked to something that felt more like a haiku than an actual warning. The text just said: "NSFW/Kids under 18, tie your shoes and stay on the left side of the road"

It’s kind of like saying, "MST3K/Kids under 18, if you can't wink with both eyes at once, you don't need them anyway."

I guess, and honestly the other moderators for this movie feel the same, it isn't really clear what that warning was even supposed to mean.

That's just not true. The only thing that hasn't been welcomed is how you constantly mess with the sub-forum's editing policies, threaten other users about how they should act, tell the moderators what they should or shouldn't be doing, and basically go after anyone on the site you don't like. Those are pretty much the only issues the moderators have with you and why you usually get penalized.

Oh, and just to be accurate... you don't have like 10 cardboard teeth. You're closer to 20.

It’s pretty obvious, really—just like when the mods and administration decide to hide behind terms like "adult content." Crystal clear, quietdriver3. Besides, "You're allowed to drop links to pornographic content here, provided you give us a heads-up beforehand." Look, this is the final official word from the administration side of things. We’re already running behind schedule here, and honestly, looking at the official policy handbook, they keep using the term "adult content," but you won't find that definition anywhere except over on LES. Like I’ve said before, the rules just aren't where they ought to be. This kind of "adult" stuff is popping up all over Reddit, yet nobody is actually getting penalized for it. Please, just get this added to the main Reddit rules or include it in the guidelines for all the subreddits—just leave LES out of it.

That’s just not how it works. The only thing people actually have an issue with is how you constantly meddle in the subreddit's editing policies, throw around threats about how other users should act, try to boss the moderators around on their own jobs, and basically go on little vendettas against anyone who doesn't fit your mold. Those are the actual problems the mods have with you, and they're pretty much the only reasons you end up getting penalized.

Right now, I’m feeling exactly like Hannibal Lecter. With all due respect, about 80% of this is just straight-up fiction—and I don't even mean pathological lies, because that would actually be interesting. Trolling. Just one of those things that seems to be everywhere lately, isn't it?Just a classic mess-up that leaves me feeling completely washed up. I’m just sitting here thinking about those imaginary cardboard teeth. I guess he thinks he’s some kind of big shot worth a hundred bucks. We’ll have to take this up on Reddit later, though. Honestly, the way they’re moderating and driving people away like this isn't exactly going to fly with the higher-ups around here.

I’m going to need the admins to take a look at this one:

I honestly don't know why I even bother trying to explain this to anyone on Reddit, but here we are. It’s like talking to a brick wall sometimes, except the wall might actually have more interesting things to say about the local economy than most people in this thread. I was sitting there thinking about how much effort I put into these discussions, only to realize that half the replies are just people shouting into the void or making points that wouldn't hold up in a middle school debate. It’s a bit exhausting, really, though I suppose that’s just my life in a nutshell—trying to make sense of things while everyone else is busy chasing the latest shiny object. Anyway, if you actually want to get into the weeds of what I was saying, feel free, but don't expect me to hold your hand through it.
I honestly don't know how people manage to stay so incredibly worked up about this stuff all the time. It feels like everyone on Reddit is just waiting around for a reason to lose their minds over absolutely nothing. I was sitting there thinking about it, and it really hit me that we’re all just spinning our wheels in the sand here. It's almost impressive, in a deeply pathetic sort of way, how much energy goes into these pointless arguments. Personally, I'm just trying to keep my head down and get through the day without feeling the need to jump into the fray, though I suppose that makes me a bit of a bore, doesn't it?
I don't know about you guys, but I honestly can't wrap my head around how anyone could actually enjoy watching that movie. It felt like I was just sitting there, staring at a screen, waiting for something—anything—to actually happen, while the soundtrack just droned on in the background. It’s one of those experiences where you start questioning your own taste because you find yourself wondering if you missed some profound, deep metaphor that everyone else clearly caught. Honestly, it was pretty much a chore to get through.
I honestly don't know why I even bother engaging on Reddit sometimes, but here we are. It feels like I’m just shouting into a void, or maybe just talking to people who aren't really listening. You try to make a decent point, something thoughtful, and you get met with nothing but blank stares or, worse, some guy making a joke that isn't even funny. It’s a bit exhausting, if I'm being honest, though I suppose that's just the nature of the internet these days. We're all just wandering around this digital wasteland looking for a shred of actual conversation.
I honestly don't know why I even bother engaging on Reddit sometimes. It’s like watching a slow-motion train wreck where everyone thinks they’re the conductor. You see these people arguing over things that don't matter, acting like they've uncovered some grand conspiracy when they really just stumbled onto a basic fact they didn't understand five minutes ago. It’s exhausting, really. I try to stay out of the fray, but then someone drops a comment so profoundly stupid that I feel a physical need to correct it, just so my brain doesn't melt from the sheer lack of logic. Anyway, back to the void.

People calling others fascists or homophobes can just breeze right through without facing any kind of consequences—I'm honestly at the point where I feel like I need to be the godfather to northerncrane4 and pray he finally deigns to grace us with even the most basic warning—while meanwhile, I’m over here getting my ass kicked for nothing. . So, my ban was overturned (literally rescinded, and this thread explains why), which means the moderators over at the Movie subreddit now have to artificially inflate my status. All the arguments and evidence against them are laid out right here.

Oh, and just for the sake of accuracy, you don't have about ten warnings. You have closer to twenty.

I have 17 warnings out of 8,616 posts on Reddit, and I've never actually been banned. We've established that I don't hold any special privileges on this Reddit, which simultaneously debunks your little claims about me "threatening or harassing other users." Before we continue this debate, you all might want to remember that you were the ones who just barred Harper from starting new threads in the Movie sub; it's all documented in black and white.

Talk soon.

northerncrane4 said:The pornography was the photo you actually linked—the one that got you banned. Let’s try this again: you were banned for a link to a photo explicitly depicting oral sex. You didn't get banned for this photo, despite how hard you're trying to make it seem. It was the other one. Not this one, which you're linking now, but the one from your original, massive post that you're conveniently ignoring. Not this. The other. How much clearer can I make it?

So, not for this one, but for the other.

Even that last red card you're citing is perfectly valid. Mirrorball said that, as far as he's concerned, the debate was over—yet you kept arguing. Then quietdriver3 responded, and you had the nerve to quote Mirrorball saying the debate was over... even though you were the one who kept it going. You. Not quietdriver3. You.

There is no ban, northerncrane4—it's been rescinded. All the questions from the original post still stand. Those rules finally need some actual definition.

Regarding that last warning you're citing, it's totally clean. Mirrorball said that as far as he's concerned, the discussion was over, after which you kept arguing, leading quietdriver3 to respond, and then you quoted Mirrorball's sentence saying the discussion was over. Except you're the one who continued after that sentence. You. Not quietdriver3. You.

Like I said, I'm going to contest that warning. By the way, start prepping those PMs for the admins (the kind involving the most egregious insults toward users or allusions to mental illness/treatment). Anyway, it's on me to report them; I'm just not sure if I can report them directly from the inbox via the red icon since you're a mod.

I also ask the administration to weigh in on these kinds of posts, as there are plenty of Splitter users here who didn't even vote for Kerum:

Over on the soccer board, we actually make a distinction between actual porn and the kind of shots you linked, especially since Offside is such a chill topic.

Don't talk nonsense.

The second one wasn't even close to being a full-blown post—it was basically just a warning and a link. It was actually that first one that was seriously problematic.

Look, there’s really no conflict here. Over on the soccer subreddit, we're just trying to draw a clear line between actual pornography and those specific images you linked, especially since being offsides is such a laid-back topic anyway.

Of course there isn't any conflict going on; the Movie and Soccer crowds are basically brothers in arms at this point.

The way the mods handle things around here, any kind of adult photo is considered controversial—except, of course, over on LES. And honestly, it’s not just limited to the soccer threads either; they pop up in other sections too. That’s really where the whole issue lies.

Honestly, the movie chat is just as laid-back as everything else around here.

Let's just leave it to the admins to sort this mess out. 👍

Come on, people, just read the introductory post. Honestly, you don't even need all that, just this:

Anderson said:Our policy on this is pretty much identical to Google's policy and the policies of other mainstream sites that don't allow explicit content; I mean, it's nothing special that we don't allow it. There's absolutely nothing personal about it, it's simply crossing the line, breaking the rules, and there are consequences for that. Why did we adopt the same standard used by mainstream sites? Besides the fact that I think the standard is perfectly acceptable and fine, given that there are kids and sensitive souls around, I won't hide the other reason either—it's a requirement from our sponsors, and since Reddit is a fairly large site, it has overhead costs that sponsors cover. I'd say your ban is actually less awkward than having an ad canceled because of stuff like this, which has happened more than a few times and is pretty embarrassing. Those are the rules of the game. Take it or leave it.

That said, one sub-forum is a bit of an exception in that regard and enjoys more freedom—LES, where we gave up sponsors in exchange for a bit more free speech, fitting for that specific community.

graniteheron132 said:I honestly have no clue where you're seeing porn in those soccer posts you pulled from Reddit. Don't drag us into this mess; pornography is a serious legal issue here in the States. Just do this: drop that other link you mentioned in the chat so people can actually judge for themselves if it's porn or not.

Hold on a second, I get banned on the movie chat for this (referring to that first photo), while you guys on the soccer board get flagged for the photos above. It's a quid pro quo situation; at least it should be handled that way. But there's one rule we really need to stick to:

Mirrorball said:Secondly—posting adult content on Reddit is strictly forbidden (unwritten rule, unfortunately) everywhere except on LES. So, any subsequent posts containing that kind of content in this PDF will result in a penalty, and we won't even consider an appeal.

Forget about "pornography" for a moment; under our definitions, any shot showing a bare breast or backside counts as adult content. And it's banned everywhere except LES.

I've got nothing against the soccer crowd, so please, just read that previous post one more time.

And I’m asking nicely: let's not turn this into some massive feud between the soccer fans and the movie buffs. That conflict doesn't even exist.

edit:

Even the artistic nudes were wiped from the photo. We're talking fine art here, man. 😁 Anderson explained the reasoning behind it was purely to protect us from Google (potential damage to search rankings).

The whole mess is laid out right here: http://www.reddit.com/thread/727214 In the meantime, my ban was lifted, so I can't really reply over there. There's a lot of stuff left hanging in the air, so I’m politely asking the admins to jump back into the discussion.

NOTE: Some of the links lead to "adult" photos, so if you're under 18, maybe don't click. 😁

Anderson said:I don't think this is a message saying you aren't welcome on Reddit. Our policy on this is very similar to Google's policy and the policies of other mainstream sites that don't allow such explicit content; I mean, it's nothing special that we don't allow it. It's absolutely nothing personal, it's simply crossing the line, going against the rules, and there's a penalty for that. Whether that's too strict or not is debatable, but that's how it is now. Also, it isn't right to appeal to your tenure on the site, because that implies advocating for double standards (different rules for those who deserve it? — no.). Why did we adopt a standard that applies to mainstream sites? Besides the fact that I think that standard is perfectly acceptable and fine, since there are kids and sensitive souls involved, I won't hide the other reason — it's also a requirement from our sponsors, and since Reddit is a fairly large site, it has expenses that sponsors cover. I'd say your ban is actually less unpleasant than having an ad pulled due to similar issues, which has happened more than once and is pretty awkward. Those are the rules of the game. Take it or leave it.

By the way, one sub-forum is actually a small exception in that regard and has more freedom — LES, where we gave up sponsors for a bit more freedom of speech, typical of that sub-forum.

http://www.reddit.com/post/4...4&postcount=16

To put it more clearly, with one major difference ("Whether that's too strict or not is debatable, but that's how it is now."), it isn't like that anymore, as the ban didn't end up sticking. Since the ban was rescinded, we're here to discuss whether such a rigorous punishment was actually justified. For starters, if the admins were just having a brief exchange of opinions yesterday about what is and isn't allowed regarding pornography on Reddit, after which the rules are finally established, how could such a penalty have existed the day before, at the moment that famous/controversial "pornographic" post was published? In other words, "I didn't know yesterday that it would hurt me today".

To make matters even more absurd, it's now being implied that I only got off on a technicality. Am I O. J. Simpson now?

Mirrorball said:That's how it is, Christian Taylor3. Just so it doesn't look like the movie moderators jumped the gun and gave you an unfair ban.

First — after consulting with the admins, it was decided that your "first" deleted post should have been penalized. The second one wasn't, because the rules regarding (not) allowing links to adult content hadn't been agreed upon yet.

Something else. Just so we’re all clear, posting adult content on Reddit is strictly prohibited—it's one of those unwritten rules that everyone just needs to respect, except for over on LES where things are a little different. Moving forward, any subsequent posts containing this kind of material in this PDF will be penalized, and honestly, don't bother filing an appeal because we aren't going to even look at it.

Trees I’m just going to say it again—the moderators were absolutely right to ban you; honestly, you only dodged the hammer because of some technicality. But let me be crystal clear: any future posts like this, whether they come from you or anyone else on this subreddit, will be penalized regardless of whether there's a warning attached or not.

I have a specific question.I mean, why is that just some "unwritten rule," unfortunately? I’m honestly appealing to the admins here—can we please just actually put that line into the official rules?Reddit - rulesI mean, honestly, people on Reddit probably aren't even in a position to be asking for that. The corner for the banned. As long as that specific rule isn't actually on the books, handing out custom bans like that—without even a heads-up first—just feels like an incredibly disproportionate way to handle things.

Moving forward, then. It’s just not true that adult content only pops up on LES; people act like it’s some isolated issue, but honestly, it’s happening everywhere across the site, and it isn't exactly being policed either. There are hundreds of photos like this floating around, scattered everywhere from the soccer threads to the off-topic sections. If we actually applied that logic of yours—where every single subsequent post of this kind gets punished and any appeal is automatically rejected—you’d probably have to mass-ban about a hundred users from the soccer board right this second, myself included, over in the movie section. Just a heads-up: the stuff I'm posting below are the mild versions; things get a lot more intense than this.

I honestly don't know why I even bother trying to explain this to people on Reddit, but here we are. It feels like every time I try to have a nuanced conversation about anything remotely complex, someone jumps in with the most half-baked, surface-level take imaginable. It’s almost impressive how quickly a decent discussion can devolve into a shouting match over nothing. I'm sitting here thinking I've made a coherent point, only to realize I'm basically talking to a brick wall that occasionally shouts back. It’s a bit exhausting, if I'm being honest, though I suppose getting frustrated is just part of the ritual at this point.
I was just sitting there, staring at my screen, thinking about how much of a mess everything is, when I realized that being on Reddit is basically like being part of a giant, unorganized experiment in human patience. It’s funny, really, because you go in expecting some kind of intellectual discourse, and instead, you find yourself wading through endless threads where everyone is just shouting into the void, hoping someone—anyone—actually gives a damn. Honestly, I don't know why I bother checking back in so often, but I suppose it's a habit at this point, much like checking the mail even though most of what arrives is just junk or bills I'd rather ignore. It's all quite absurd if you step back and look at it from a distance, isn't it?
I honestly can't tell if I'm losing my mind or if everyone else is just collectively deciding to ignore reality, but this whole situation feels incredibly surreal. It’s like we’re all sitting around watching some bizarre indie movie where nothing makes sense and the plot is just a series of unfortunate events. I was scrolling through Reddit earlier, trying to find some semblance of logic, and it felt like I was just staring into an abyss of nonsense. It's almost funny, in a deeply depressing sort of way, how much effort people put into being completely wrong about everything. I'm just sitting here, probably looking like a total idiot, wondering when the actual point of any of this is going to be made.
I don't know what to tell you, I just think that if we’re going to sit around on Reddit discussing how people behave, we might as well be honest about the fact that most of us are just performing for an audience that isn't even paying attention. It's like watching someone try to explain the nuances of a classic noir movie to a room full of people who are just there for the free popcorn; you're putting in all this effort, trying to be deep or insightful, while everyone else is just waiting for the credits to roll so they can go grab a burger. Honestly, I feel like I spend half my life overthinking things that probably don't matter, acting like my internal monologue is some profound piece of literature when, in reality, it's mostly just me wondering if I left the stove on or if I actually have a personality beyond being mildly cynical. It's a bit pathetic, really, but hey, at least I'm consistent in my mediocrity.
I honestly don't know why I even bother engaging on Reddit sometimes, because half the time it feels like I’m just shouting into a void filled with people who haven't had their coffee yet. You look at these discussions and realize how much energy we waste arguing over things that won't matter by next Tuesday, though I suppose that's just the nature of the internet. It’s a strange little ecosystem we’ve built for ourselves, isn't it? Anyway, if you actually want to get anything done, you might as well just go Google it and save us all the headache of a three-hour debate that leads absolutely nowhere.

So, who’s actually going to step up and do this? Is it going to be Anderson? Mirrorball? Or maybe Nica? I’m genuinely curious which one of you actually has the guts to pull this off—no warning, no heads-up, just straight to the point—for a model citizen like Yurinova, whom I happen to know from the movie community, regarding this post: I honestly don't know why I even bother engaging on Reddit sometimes, because most of the discussions feel like they're circling a drain of pure nonsense. It’s one of those days where you realize that trying to have a coherent conversation online is basically like trying to teach a catatonic beaver how to play chess—you might see some movement, but nobody is actually winning anything. I was sitting there thinking about how much energy we waste arguing over things that don't matter, much like how people get worked up over whether a certain actor deserves an Oscar when we all know the script was garbage from page one. Anyway, I guess I'm just rambling now, probably because I haven't had enough coffee to deal with the sheer absurdity of this thread. Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that at the exact moment they get banned, they have zero penalty points—basically a spotless record. In that case, you guys are basically just... to I might not exactly be your idea of a "model citizen" on Reddit—I’ve racked up maybe ten warnings since 2009 and I've actually never been banned, though I did find myself getting kicked out once while sitting at a perfectly clean zero penalty points. Anyway, regarding enrollment... I guess this is how it starts. (on the movie subreddit)

So, I'm going to ask Anderson, Mirrorball, Nic, and Chika Strile one more time— So, looking back at it, was that custom ban actually a bit excessive? In a situation where the rules weren't even clearly defined yet, couldn't I have just been given a warning or maybe slapped with a minor 35-point penalty instead? Honestly, what stings the most isn't even the ban itself, but this whole implication that I only managed to dodge it because of some technicality.

Anderson kaze:
Also, let’s be real: bringing up how long someone has been around on Reddit is just a cheap way to dodge the point. It’s basically just advocating for double standards—as if we should have one set of rules for the veterans and another for everyone else. And honestly? No, we shouldn't.

I honestly don't know why I even bother engaging on Reddit sometimes, especially when conversations spiral this quickly. It feels like we're all just shouting into a void, or maybe just waiting for someone to say something actually intelligent. Anyway, if you're looking for my take on this whole mess, I’m just sitting here watching the chaos unfold, probably overthinking things that don't even matter. It’s fine, really. I'm used to it.

Of course not, there’s no double standard here—the rules apply to everyone equally. And honestly, I’m not even some veteran user; briskhound2 was actually the one who pointed that out first. I’ve been registered for three years, and there are plenty of people here who have been around much longer than I have. It wouldn't be fair to them if I went around calling myself an old-timer.

The whole illusion that I’m somehow a more "deserving" member of this Reddit is something you created yourself, specifically through your site, Monitor News: Let’s get one thing straight: I never asked Monitor to push things on the front page, and I never asked for a sticky on the movie PDF. I just came here to start a thread because I wanted to share something good with everyone—pure intentions, really. But it created this (wrong) impression that I’m privileged or operating under some special protection, which isn't true at all. How am I supposed to fight that perception, Zeljko? It’s becoming too much of a burden, and frankly, I don't want to carry it anymore.

Anderson said:I don't think that means you aren't welcome on Reddit.

It's not that I'm not welcome; it's more that I'm standing right by the exit—it's just that nobody has catapulted me out yet. It’s enough to say that after getting my ban lifted from zero yesterday, I’ve already climbed up to 70 points, mostly because people are handing me cardboard teeth for this: My goal is the magic number of 100, obviously, though I could probably just leave a single comma there and get deleted anyway (like I said, I won't be coming back). I'll let the rest of you decide what's actually going on here.

The icing on the cake was northerncrane4's post yesterday, right after yours:

northerncrane4 said:Anyway, the title of this thread is bullshit.

Once again, northerncrane4, there isn't a trace of pornography here: Pornography is the explicit depiction of sexual intercourse. Why don't you come over and explain to us why this photo qualifies as pornography?
Sandra Gonzalez3 said:And you think anyone actually bothered explaining things to you?... 😕

You don't even know why he got Banned...

You already know... 🙂

I don't see any reason why this thread should be gone. There's nothing wrong with the ban, and I've got absolutely nothing to hide...

The real blunder here was how the ban was justified, because an admin should probably refrain from trying to lecture everyone on history lessons. If they wanted to be blunt, they could have just told him to go hit the books and actually study American history from the 1940s, but I guess that didn't happen. Regardless, we shouldn't be getting into these "ideological" debates on the KZB, especially not with the admins involved; just state the actual reason for the ban and let's move on with our lives in peace. If things had been handled properly from the jump, this whole thread wouldn't even exist, so hopefully, we've all learned something today.

I have to disagree with Henry Hernandez7 regarding the administration being in total shambles—that's just not true. Generally speaking, the admins do a solid job. A mistake was made, and then it was corrected.
Daniel Ward87 said:That’s a total lie.

The guy got banned because he made a burner account just to stir the pot over in Politics. I told him straight up that he couldn't post here using that specific handle, so he's more than welcome to make a new one. But if he keeps posting the exact same stuff, he's going to get banned regardless of what his username is.

Nice makes a fair point; if he had picked a different name, he might not have been flagged immediately, but with posts like those, he would’ve caught a moderator's eye pretty fast anyway, and the result would be identical.

@Nicholas King - look, I don't owe anyone an explanation for everything. As an admin, I have certain tools at my disposal, and I use them when they make sense, in coordination with the rest of the mod team. It’s tough when so much of the actual conversation happens in private messages, leaving you guys seeing only half the story, which leads to a lot of wrong conclusions. I don't need to air all that out here, and even if I wanted to, I can't because I won't leak private info.

Personally, I couldn't care less about him; the actual issue here is the whole debate over prohibited usernames. I wouldn't even be chiming in if it weren't for your explanation for the ban—to paraphrase: "Using 'Marshall Party' as a handle is out, go study some American history from 1945 to 1995." Come on, guys, let's not play games. Just explain the ban to him clearly, the way Nice would, and call it a day, without all these unnecessary history lessons or banning people based solely on their handle (which is really the impression you give, thanks to your posts over at KZB).

@Byron — yeah, I’m not obligated to explain everything. As an admin, I have certain tools at my disposal that I use whenever I deem it appropriate, in consultation with the other moderators. It's a real headache when so much of the communication happens via private message, leaving us with only a fraction of the story visible here, which often leads to people jumping to the wrong conclusions. I don't have to air that data here, and even if I wanted to, I couldn't because I can't just leak private information.

To make a long story short, nobody is stopping (or are they?) new users from creating an account called "Marshall lives forever" and posting on the Forum, even in threads about Marshall. They could be the most polite and constructive members we have. They'll be judged strictly on their actions, just like everyone else.
swiftcrane96 said:"This caught us all off guard, I guess"

Who exactly are we talking about here? You and Lastan?

I’m leaning toward supporting the decision, mostly because it seems like the smart move, plain and simple. 🤷

Why is it smart? Look, let’s be real, I couldn't care less about Josip Broz Marshall (and let's try to move past the whole whole partisan vs. collaborator debate for a second), but if modern-day American streets and squares are still named after him, why on earth would a username like "Marshall forever!" be considered controversial on this Forum? There is absolutely no grounds for purging those kinds of handles from the site; there just isn't. Unless some American legislative body decides to step in first and pass a law banning the public use of names or slogans derived from Josip Broz, there's really nothing to talk about.
Uncle Strile, with all due respect, this feels like a completely unnecessary blunder by the Admin. You’re opening a massive Pandora’s box here; there are hundreds of usernames just like this one floating around. Honestly, your arguments feel a bit thin—they don't really hold much water. Besides, the phrase "The Party" is likely just a nod to that old slogan from those community service projects back in the day: "Marshall, The Party, Youth League, Action!" You’d be surprised how many people earned enough money from those summer work programs to buy their first pair of Converse, get their first car, or make lifelong friends... Sure, we might have shouted that slogan back when we were just kids eating ice cream at the local park, but does that make us Titoists, communists, or potential criminals in your eyes?

In other words, if someone can shout that slogan right now in the middle of Times Square without fearing any kind of backlash, I don't see why we need to purge these kinds of nicknames from the Forum. It's like how some of the most iconic spots in NYC are named after historical figures. For example, back in 2012, here you provided a list of places in America named after Josip Broz Marshall.

If that specific nickname (which we've established is tied to a slogan, not a name) is actually causing trouble in certain threads, then go ahead and hit them with the standard trolling or harassment penalties. But doing this on the Forum without prior agreement from the Monitor editorial staff—and without clearly stating such things in the rules for creating new accounts—is going to cause a stir. All I would have to do is tweet about it once, and in a split second, ten thousand people would be onto it. Then you'll have Babic, the Vecernjakovac crowd, the Pavicev vultures over at JL, and the entire force of the American news cycle and Anderlon starting to poke fun at the Forum for acting like Tomislav Karamarko. 😬 There's really no need for that headache.

I also request that we hear from rustydrifter10.

p.s. This isn't personal; you know I'd stick my neck out for you as an Admin anytime. At least, that's how it's been until now, so this whole situation has caught us all off guard.
rustydrifter10 said:Oh, I see my name popped up here! Sorry about that, guys, I might not have the full scoop on this specific situation.

I took a quick look at the profile and went through their recent posts, and honestly, here’s my take on it. It looks like someone signed up with a handle that might seem harmless enough at first glance, but then they immediately started dropping nothing but problematic, troll-style comments. Basically, they look like a troll and they're acting exactly like one. In my opinion, if this user had chosen a less "flashy" username or if they had just engaged in normal conversation without trying to provoke everyone, they probably wouldn't have been banned so quickly. But when you combine a loud username with constant agitation right when they join the community, it’s a massive red flag. It’s usually better to just clear them out fast before they cause real damage to the vibe of the board. Just like how we jump on spammers or people posting ads the second they show up, sometimes we have to do the same with trolls if that’s the only reason they’re even here. Honestly, two posts can be more than enough to make a call, especially when the username itself is screaming for attention.

Thanks, that makes sense—so he wasn't banned just because of his username, he was actually just being a troll.

If you could do me a huge favor and throw a quick comment my way about this too, I'd really appreciate it. I don't know if I should be laughing or just staring blankly at my screen, but honestly, watching this whole situation unfold feels like watching a slow-motion car crash where everyone involved thinks they’re driving a Ferrari. It’s almost impressive how much effort goes into being consistently wrong. You see people jumping through hoops to defend ideas that were outdated before the internet was even a thing, and you have to wonder if there’s some sort of unspoken rule about ignoring common sense just to stay on brand. It’s exhausting, really, but I suppose someone has to provide the entertainment while the rest of us try to make sense of the chaos.

With a handle like that, you’re basically banned from posting on this Forum. If you actually want to learn something, I’d suggest spending some time digging into American history between 1945 and 1995 instead.

I hope Uncle Strile doesn't take this the wrong way, but honestly, this is just nonsense. If we’re talking about someone who has been a model member here, then their username is just a username. You can't exactly pull a history lesson on someone just because of a handle; that shouldn't be any reason to kick a user off the forum.
@rustydrifter10

You should probably just say it out loud at this point: you're basically using ideology as a convenient excuse to hand out bans. It’s a pretty massive blunder, honestly—even the folks over at ZgSash didn't see that coming. Like I mentioned before, if you're going to ban someone just for having a username like "Marshall forever," you really ought to require approval from the other admins and the editorial board of Monitor (since they actually own this forum), and then make sure that rule is explicitly laid out in the terms of service.

Thanks for listening. 🙂
