I've used https://freefilesync.org/ before, and it works pretty well. You just set up what needs backing up, and later on, it only syncs the files you've actually changed...
If you're planning on hooking it up to an external monitor, then sure, it works fine. Otherwise, I wouldn't really recommend it. If all you're doing is browsing the web, checking emails, or watching movies, you'll be alright...
