Looking for 23-24" monitor recommendations in Computer Peripherals ·
The XL2370 is a solid choice—really solid—but you went with the HD version that includes a built-in TV tuner. Do you actually need that? Honestly, the "standard" XL2370 is about $167 cheaper, so you might just be throwing money away if you aren't planning on watching broadcast TV on your monitor. That’s the only real difference here. As for that Acer, I haven't laid eyes on it myself, but based on this review, it looks pretty mediocre: http://www.digitalversus.com/acer-s2...7_7728_38.html

If you want to dig into the actual performance of the XL2370, check out these reviews:

XL2370 vs Dell U2311H — pros & cons
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
I honestly don't get why the Gigabyte versions are always so much more expensive—looking at the MSI GTX 460 vs the Gigabyte GTX 460, $133 there's barely any difference, since they're practically the exact same card. 😕
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Clock-by-clock, the 560 is roughly 10% faster than the 460—honestly, the whole architecture is basically identical aside from the actual GPU chip itself... just see which one fits your budget better, since they both handle Overclocking pretty much equally well. When it comes to cooling, the MSI TwinFrozr and Gigabyte WindForce setups are definitely a step above the rest... if you ask me, this one is a total best buy for this class:

northernbadger2 said:So, here's the deal—I just picked up a new rig, mostly for gaming, and it’s an absolute beast. Now I'm stuck on the monitor situation. I originally ordered a 24" LED, but then they hit me up saying it's out of stock. So now I'm torn between going with a 24" or jumping up to a 27". The smaller one is cheaper $233—which definitely matters to my wallet—but I also spend a decent amount of time watching movies on this thing, so a bigger screen sounds better. The catch is the response time: the bigger one is 5ms while the smaller one is 2ms. Some people tell me I won't even notice the difference, but others swear I will—especially since I've got some serious horsepower under the hood (NVIDIA GTX 570) that'll be pushing plenty of FPS. If anyone can help me make up my mind, I'd appreciate it.

What kind of budget are we talking about here? If you want a snappy 24" (2ms) LED monitor, you're looking at roughly $667 minimum. You could grab a BenQ ZOWIE XL2411Z for around $1500-$$533 (that's a solid 23" LED option) and it's a great choice. Honestly, just scroll through the mega-thread above... and look, screen response time doesn't actually have anything to do with your graphics card—plus, those manufacturer specs are usually optimistic anyway, so that 5ms is probably going to end up being even higher in reality.

This card can handle HD resolution without breaking a sweat... the monitor itself is solid, and honestly, you can't beat the price—it’s a steal. The only catch is that the stand is fixed, so there’s zero tilt or swivel adjustment.
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Wait, what do you mean 7 GB? That doesn't even make sense—the x64 version is just over 4 GB, and the x86 one sits right around 3.5 GB.

Keith Harris15 said:I don't see any exclamation points or question marks popping up in my Device Manager, aside from the fact that it's showing a virtual connection via an LPT1: printer port; everything seems fine with the hardware itself, but the moment I plug it into my computer, the system just acts like nothing is there...😢

And why on earth would you install it on an IBM if it’s connecting via USB anyway? Just curious—seems like a lot of extra steps for no reason.

Maybe just try grabbing the driver from that same link then. Just hit "Back to all support options...", pick your OS, and download the driver.

You’re also going to need to install Adobe Scan —it doesn't just work with the driver alone.

I’m pretty much a total novice when it comes to computers—nothing against tech, just don't live in it—so I’ll try to explain my headache in plain English...

Up until now, burning movies from my hard drive onto DVDs was a breeze—totally routine stuff—but suddenly, it just won't work. No warning, no nothing, just an error pops up and everything stalls out...

You’ve gotta specify exactly which error you're getting—"it doesn't work" isn't exactly a diagnostic tool—and I'm definitely not buying the idea that it's just a faulty burner. Also, let us know what specific model you're running and which software you use for the burning process. You can find the burner model in the Device Manager (System -> Properties -> Hardware).

Alright, fair enough—if underscaling was turned on, then it’s pretty obvious why the image wasn't filling up the whole screen. And as for the monitor settings, if you're banking on > to fix that... yeah, forget about it. It doesn't handle things like that on version 7. You'll just have to dive into the monitor's actual OSD menu and tweak everything there manually.
New monitors, new resolutions in Computer Peripherals ·
So, are you telling me the monitor isn't even showing up right in your Display properties? Like, what exactly is the error message saying—that it can't load the driver or something—and at what point does everything just freeze up on you?
New monitors, new resolutions in Computer Peripherals ·
What exactly isn't loading? 😵 Everything is running perfectly fine on my end—I can even stretch that old Diablo build until it practically screams. I don't know much about AMD, though, since I'm running Nvidia. Is there anything useful being said over in that World of Warcraft thread? And regarding the TV situation—honestly, most TVs actually have lower resolutions than monitors; plenty of 40" screens and up support 1920*1080 natively.

That’s weird... did you actually install the monitor drivers yet?

Check this out—I can't even get this page to load right now: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1764412929

I don't know what to tell you—it’s just one of those things where people seem to think there's a massive debate, when really, it's pretty straightforward if you actually look at the facts. People get so worked up over the smallest details—honestly, it's exhausting—but I've always been of the mind that if you approach it with a bit of logic, the answer kind of presents itself. It’s not rocket science, though some folks certainly try to make it feel like it is. Anyway, my point is, stop overcomplicating things. Just deal with it. Benjamin King2 says:
Thanks for the reply.
Just kind of weird.
Only this one in the picture seems to have a decent angle—at least, that’s how it looks to me—similar to the ones I dug up earlier from my profile. But mine? Mine is sitting at almost a straight 90 degrees.
Honestly, when I was putting everything together, I didn't even bother checking if there was any play or looseness in the joints—I just figured I'd deal with it later—but now? Yeah, everything is rock solid.
I really need to whip up some kind of angled stand—just something to make this whole setup look a little less like a disaster zone and maybe a bit more civilized.
Alright, thanks.

I’m sitting at the same 90 mark—honestly, it's fine by me since the height is spot on, so I don't really feel the need to mess with the tilt—but maybe you'd want to... It looks like you might have cut off there—left me hanging mid-sentence! What were you going to say? Maybe this will help.

James Castillo8 said:Benjamin King2 picked up a monitor at the local corner store—basically just a quick run to a neighborhood bodega. $367 I finally got it running—it’s actually great. But hey, quick question for you—is it totally normal that when I set the resolution to Samsung full HD in-game, it doesn't actually fill up the whole screen? 😢 It’s not showing up in any of my games—not one—but then I look at my desktop and there it is, just sitting right there. 😢

So, I went out to pick up a DVI-to-DVI cable—simple enough, right?—but apparently, the guy working the counter is a total clown. He looked me straight in the eye and swore they didn't have them in stock, yet when I opened the package, it was just some DVI-to-HDMI cable instead. Total nonsense. Now I’m stuck with a cord that only works for my monitor, which isn't exactly what I planned for. I'm thinking about taking this back—can I actually demand a full refund, or should I just swap it out and throw some extra cash toward that keyboard I've been eyeing? God, what a headache. $20 It’s actually not half bad.

What on earth is actually running in that window? Is it just spinning in circles or something? Also—and this is the big one—does it even support 1920x1080 resolution?

Go hit up the store and check—I’m pretty sure you should be getting a refund on that.

Jesse Myers57 said:Just as an aside—what’s actually the big deal with LED lighting anyway? What's the actual advantage there?

Look, the backlighting makes a massive difference when it comes to contrast and color accuracy—it’s not even a contest. We're talking about LEDs having a much wider light emission range compared to those old-school CCFL lamps used in standard LCD monitors, which basically allows for way more intense, punchy colors. Plus, you get better contrast levels overall, and honestly? The light is just easier on your eyes—much less strain during those long sessions. Oh, and if you care about your electric bill, LED monitors pull significantly less power too. It's just a smarter way to go.

So, I’m looking at the photo of your monitor right here: http://www.digitalversus.com/samsung...7_5568_36.html
The stand and the base look identical to what I've got on my monitor—actually, if I recall correctly, I think I read something similar in my own manual. I even tried messing around with it a bit while I was setting everything up, but honestly? Nothing. Not a single millimeter. That plastic shroud and the base itself feel like they're made of some incredibly rigid, unforgiving plastic—and looking at the pivot point, I don't see any mechanism that would allow for tilting or rotating. I’d highly doubt you could move it even an inch without just snapping something off. 😁
New monitors, new resolutions in Computer Peripherals ·
Which one’s better? That 27" Samsung that Jesse Myers57 was asking about actually has a built-in tuner—you know, like an actual TV tuner where you just plug the antenna cable directly into the monitor. I suggested that $1300 model specifically because it hits that 2ms response time, so you shouldn't run into any lag issues while gaming—though honestly, if you're just watching documentaries, either one will do fine. Just a heads-up though: AOC generally puts out monitors with pretty mediocre contrast and response times—they're basically office monitors that might work okay for a movie now and then, but seriously, don't waste your money on them.

What do you guys think? If I pull the trigger on this today, how fast am I getting it? 😁

If you’re actually looking to play anything decent, just hold out $33 until this one comes along.

I’m rocking an XL2370 myself, and honestly, I haven't found a single thing to complain about—it's a solid monitor. The only real downside is that the stand is totally fixed, so you can't adjust the height or even tilt the screen, plus there aren't any extra ports like USB or audio jacks hanging around—but frankly, I don't even need them. If you're looking for anything else, maybe check out this 24" model, though it lacks the LED backlight: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/example_link

If you want to nerd out on the specifics, here’s a more detailed review: http://www.digitalversus.com/samsung...7_8128_36.html

Usually, monitors in this specific class and size cap out at around $633 bucks—if you see one priced higher than that, it’s probably just because it comes with a built-in TV tuner.
