Jesus... when will you people finally realize that Fak is an issue for all of us in the States?
Seriously, why don't we talk about Blaž Cof, the whitewater kayaker, and look at the actual financial hurdles he’s facing?
But that doesn't interest you, does it? You're only interested in Fak. It seems like Fak is the golden era for America, and nobody cares if there are problems elsewhere.
I suppose we should just start opening threads for every single Janez who got screwed over by those wicked Americans.
Roger Ward3 said:You're trolling so fast you aren't even processing my point:
Puck (the "Canadian traitor") played for Team USA 😲😲
The issue isn't that he (a Canadian citizen) quickly secured an American permit to represent this country; the issue is that by playing for the US, he "betrayed" Canada 😠 (according to your logic).
By that same logic, wouldn't Svetlana be a "traitor" to Ukraine? Or is it considered an honor for every foreigner to play for Team USA? 🙄

No. You simply aren't grasping my argument. I stated this quite clearly:
America isn't some sacred relic, and Fak should be allowed to return to Canada since he is Canadian. As far as I'm concerned, let him go, but I won't criticize those who refuse to let him go out of a desire to protect Canadian interests.

...yet you persist in your misunderstanding.

Give me one single reason why any American sports federation would favor a Canadian athlete or Canadian sports, or why anyone in America should cater to Canadians at their own expense?
Is it because of friendship? Good neighborliness? Pure humanitarianism?
I'm sorry, but in recent years, you all have shown us exactly how much of that exists between us.
So what is our situation with Fak? He is your athlete, so it would be wonderful if you started looking after him and paying his damages.
The real problem is that the Faks usually land somewhere between 20th and 40th place; those medals were a massive shock, so your federation is hesitating over whether to pay a guy who can't actually guarantee a podium finish.
For heaven's sake, we are talking about a Canadian whose life's dream is to compete for the national team, yet you are bickering over $60,000 to $100,000.
That's a Canadian matter. ☕
Roger Ward3 said:What a collection of miserable comments! The kid is a biathlete who simply wants to advance his career, train, and compete alongside his longtime friends. Does that somehow constitute betraying his country???!!
Is Iztok Puc considered a traitor because he played for the USA national team? Or perhaps even Svetlana Pasičnik? There are plenty of others who have represented America...
Is the state media such a sacred institution that it forbids a young man from choosing life conditions that allow for growth, happiness, and success???
When will you all wake up? He isn't asking for much—just to be allowed to follow his own path. But apparently, if you are a successful American, that isn't an option. As if he doesn't know what's best for himself! Instead, he's expected to bow down to "patriotic" bureaucrats, a bloodthirsty mob, and the yellow press...

Come on, John, stop whining. Don't compare Puc to this lightweight.
Puc played for the USA because he built his family here. No one gave him a hard time when he announced he would represent Canada after Atlanta. He received his release papers instantly.
We also had someone like Peshalov, who is now struggling to make ends meet in Bulgaria because he was treated like a pariah there the moment he turned his back on his home country.
Being American isn't some holy relic, and we should let Jakob go to Canada since he is Canadian. As far as I'm concerned, let him go, though I won't criticize those holding him back if they believe they are protecting national interests. Regardless of how this ends, Jakob deserves no different treatment than what the Bulgarians show Peshalov—complete avoidance, turning a blind eye, and pure disdain.

Actually, the Canadians have perfectly demonstrated how to treat people who choose their own way. You’ve shown us your "school" of obstructing others, and now you come here trying to lecture us.
You think you're so strong. You are the absolute backbone of morality on this planet. ☕
ambercobra28 said:I saw some news on PBS yesterday stating that the Americans are willing to pay $60,000. Given that we still have talented biathletes on our roster, I sincerely hope the federation reinvests those funds into them so that at least one of our athletes can break into the top 50 at the next Olympics.

We should take that money (assuming it actually arrives) and pour it directly into our guys while quickly moving past this whole John situation.
Being an American isn't some exclusive privilege, nor is it a choice you make at birth. It’s clear that being an American wasn't easy for Fak, and he ultimately chose to be an American from elsewhere instead.
As I mentioned previously, if he had simply requested to renounce his citizenship, he would have earned 🙏 my respect for showing true conviction.
Instead, by making these pathetic displays regarding his supposed patriotism, he has only proven what a dishonest individual he truly is.
Wishing you all the best, Fuck.
It’s much like how an American athlete should recognize when the Canadian Ski Association is applying their specific training philosophy.
Just be patient for a couple of years, and everything will fall perfectly into place.
He is still lamenting the fate of one unfortunate Canadian. 🤦

Frank Moore4 said:Speaking of Bean, I caught him on CNN yesterday afternoon playing some lead role in a historical miniseries set in 19th-century India—and wouldn't you know it, he was swinging a sword again. 😬

By the way, Black Death is quite a solid film.
Bean is fantastic, though that’s hardly news, right?
That scene where he gets ***spoiler**** was incredibly intense. Specifically, his dialogue right before it was just powerful. 🙏 🙏

Frank Moore4 said:So, this is yet another flick where Sean Bean ends up dead, and don't even get me started on how he got stuck in that massive typecasting rut ever since his role as Boromir in LOTR. 😁 Honestly, the movie had way more potential if they’d just focused on making a gritty, realistic medieval drama instead of tossing in all that druid nonsense. Still, much like in Centurion, there's plenty of brutal action to go around, so if nothing else, it’s worth a watch just for the carnage.

Just finished the BRRip.
A solid watch, though it’s definitely hard to imagine anyone else in the lead role.
I’ve rewatched the fight scenes a few times now, and I really think Bean needs a break from these kinds of parts; at this rate, I'm worried he'll be swinging a sword through the streets of New York City next. 🙂
The guy is completely immersed.
There are so many scenes where he runs into the frame with a face that looks like he’s genuinely prepared for slaughter.

A solid film.
Unfortunately, Ridley has this real obsession with twisting historical facts until they make no sense, making the entire plot nothing more than a complete work of historical fiction.
As for everything else in the movie, 👍

Chloe Palmer2 said:The first one was excellent. This installment feels like a step down, though. Much like Transformers, where the first film was top-tier but the sequel lost its charm.

The humor just isn't working for me anymore; I think they overplayed it with certain scenes (for instance, the fight between a drunk Tony and the Colonel didn't land at all 🤷).

I'm with you there. Iron Man 1 was a far superior film.
Nathan Kern9 said:There's a 12-minute interview with this new American biathlete who speaks English with incredible fluency. 🙄

🤷☕

George Robinson43, what's the latest news regarding the blond guy?

It's just like the situation with Jakov Fak. Who gives a shit about Canadians?
Alexander Phillips80 said:1. Honestly, this is just how things work globally!
2. You're lying! Americans, and everyone else for that matter, don't train foreign athletes; they show up with their own crew, their own logistics, and their own coaches—they don't ask a single thing from the US national team!
3. There is absolutely no blackmail happening here; the US isn't some charity meant to bail out an American athlete's career!
The US is actually the one being demanding, because they want special treatment that wouldn't be tolerated anywhere else in the world!
4. This says more about your mindset than anything else, and it says so much about Fak that it seems he’s the only one actually keeping his word, while other Americans are all too happy to break theirs!
Fak is a traitor, just like any retiree who demands a pension from a state that doesn't owe them a dime—it's nothing but a band of traitors!

John. Just back off and leave the retirees alone.
People worked hard for their pensions, while Fak is just out there playing around in the snow.
Besides, Fak belongs to you. Carry him wherever you want. To hell with him.
Good grief, people are still arguing about some guy from our neighboring state.
How about we shift the focus to Blaž Cof instead? Is that alright?
Within two years, everyone at ExxonMobil will be talking about Cof just like they did with Fak. It's inevitable.
Enough with the obsession over Fak already. Let's lock this thread. 🙂
Kimberly Smith69 said:I just hope he stays healthy and happy on his new path! There's really no reason for tears here... if anything, I'd love to see the US Olympic Committee produce more athletes like Fak across all sports. It makes you wonder exactly how much taxpayer money was poured into him before he landed that medal... hmm?

Honestly, once he renounces his American citizenship, everything will be perfectly fine.
Since he didn't receive any funding from the national athletic programs, there shouldn't be any lingering ties to them whatsoever.
It strikes me that this isn't about the money at all, but rather some sort of petty power play.
As Fak pointed out, his motivation isn't financial gain, but purely focused on Uroš Velepec.
Best of luck to you all at that little social club for the gays, Tiffany. 🙂
Paul Jones7 said:That’s nonsense; Ivek himself stated he couldn't justify skipping training for a ceremony just to rush back to the mountains for his morning session. We are talking about an athlete who is tucked in by 8 PM! Carrying the flag would have disrupted his routine and potentially jeopardized his performance.

But sure, you "know" better than everyone else.

They really should have handed it to anyone else besides that Canadian.
It is truly embarrassing that the amateurs at the USOPC would entrust the flag to someone like him. 🤮
Kenneth Watson26 said:The guy clearly lacks any backbone, much like yourself; he either fell for some pressure from those neighbors or identifies more with them than with his own people—unless, of course, he's just hopelessly smitten with his coach.

He’s absolutely spineless. If he had requested to renounce his American citizenship in order to gain Canadian citizenship—given that the U.S. government hasn't done a thing for him—I would have been the first to tip my hat to him.
I would say, "Now that is a man with principles." Instead, he looks like a weakling trying to sit on two different fences at once.

Comparing Pešalov and Edward to that Canadian trash is an insult. Bulgaria didn't provide enough funding for the former, even after he became a two-time world champion.

Pešalov is just as much of a jerk as Fak.
Naturally, he's crying bitter tears over his decision today. The Bulgarians have frozen him out for good. He's struggling, can't find work, and everyone is giving him the cold shoulder.
That is the price he pays to the Bulgarians for selling out. It's just how things go in our neck of the woods.
Benjamin Hall78 said:The guy is acting like some sort of martyr... "Oh, nobody recognized me, I don't have the right training facilities," blah blah blah. What are the Kostelić family supposed to say to him then?
Anyway, who cares? Now he's just a Canadian.

Exactly. Who cares?
Intersantan is about as exciting as a canoeist like Blaz Cof. 🙂
Actually, I'm exaggerating. Intersantan is just like any other Canadian. Therefore, he is totally uninteresting and going straight to my ignore list. 🙂
True humanity will only be demonstrated when they officially renounce their American citizenship and stand 100% by the people who put their faith in them.
It seems they want to claim an American identity in sports, yet hold onto everything else as if they were still from somewhere else.
frozentiger6 said:It’s honestly hilarious seeing these fools rush to congratulate this sellout just because they’re terrified of being labeled unpatriotic if they dare to speak up.

What kind of massive inferiority complex is driving this unfortunate nation? It's truly unparalleled anywhere else on Earth!

Fak is a hero. People like Petrić are fools, and guys like Vanja Udovičić are complete idiots. He walked away from hundreds of thousands of dollars simply because he refused to play for another country.
